" ...have the courage to lose sight of land..." The lit up bridge, opening ...the gateway to heaven....so beautiful...( got chocked up watching. ) Selection of background music. awesome. Favorite channel, guys.
You definitely did SA justice. The Knysna episode was so epic and your landtour by far left most camperers in the dust. Do hope to see you guys back there one day :-) Always great to hear from you. Wishing you safe and happy travels!
Good Sunday morning family. Beautiful vid as always. Kinda sad to leave Cape Town but a happy moment too. So we just got back from a trip to Honduras and were really worried that Bret was going to mess things up but he turned out to be a nonevent as y’all know by now too. Cheers!
Thank you for spending time in South Africa. Although it is weeks ago, it's still sad seeing you leave. It was emotional. Ash💞. The lit up swing bridge looked as if it was saluting Nahoa. It is exciting to know we can travel further with you. Love you guys.💞⛵
Be wise. Patience is a virtue. Do not take a risk. Make a sound judgement. Always choose a safe travel schedule. Always praying for your family. Take care. God bless
I truly love when you guys talk "sailor". You both are such great sailors. You guys give sailing lessons when you give us the "mission brief". Thank you for taking us on a tour of SA, but, it is time to go. See Ya! The kids are getting so big, right in front of us. Thank you for sharing
My #1 thing I keep onboard for hull intrusions is various sized pieces of 1/4 thick wood. I keep moisture curing calking, sheets of plastic, and a drill with screws with it. The goal with a hull intrusion is to quickly slow the water down so the bilge pump can keep up. Slap the wood on from the inside with the drill. After that you can get in the water and have someone pass you another piece of wood covered in calking with plastic stuck to the calking. you cover the other side of the plastic with calking and quickly press it over the hole, and then screw it in. (your drill probably won't work underwater so you need a waterproof one or you do it the hard way).
We used expanding builder's foam when a saildrive diaphragm leak developed 1/2 way from FL to Panama. The foam go in my hair and on my skin, but it sealed the leak for another 500 miles.
Fair winds and following winds, thank you for stopping in our small fun loving country, I hope the memories will live on in your minds forever. Here’s to the last big ocean before you have completed a full circuit of this round spinning ball we call home.
WOW....beautiful departure. I could share the feeling of leaving Cape Town. I like how you guys take your time to watch the weather to make a good decision to leave. That's very wise of you guys. I really like how you guys sail. Once again thank you for taking us viewers along for the ride in this beautiful sailing. Please continue to stay safe. Btw great flashlight Ben. Just don't pointed at Ashley's eyes 😂😅
I've lived abroad for 45 years in New England winters. I made 1/8 " acrylic storm windows for the hatches using the screens for a temple. I also made storm windows for the fixed and opening ports. It really helps.
It’s just amazing that you are able to post updates at sea! Well hometown update….everything forestry is on the tipping edge of a fire, it’s been very hot and sunny, no rain for weeks… From White Rock bc, cheers guys!
Enjoy your sail north. Made that trip in 2016, CT TO Annapolis; once you get past that low it's a easy sail. Keep a lookout; you might see some humpbacks on the way to St. Helena.
So lovely to see you guys leave the V&A with the bridges and the lights. We left there last year February for Namibia then St Helena. Yup not much to buy in St Helena but you know that by now.
woah! where have i been?!?! i had to rewatch that little clipit of bodhi! i feel like baby bodhi has suddenly become bodhi the little boy! both he and willa have grown up so much over these past few months it seems. 😊
Just be safe always, above everything. I understand the frustrations but don't jump into being foolishness. You guys are smarter than that. Prayers, prayers.
Can’t wait to see you guys cross your wake, you two really have earned it, there have been many hard miles and challenges that would have stopped many, but you’ve kept on and that will make the victory all the sweeter
Wow, the video at the end leaving Capetown was so beautiful! You both seemed a bit depressed. Must have been very frustrating having to wait to depart for so long ! Love you guys! Fair winds, safe passage! ❤
I thought all the stores in South Africa were looted last year and even recently with both building and car fires all over the place. Glad to see that you were able to get some shopping done and that store wasn't vandalized.
Yup you said it right “you can’t fix condensation” we RV’d in WA state for 5 years and every winter was a nightmare. Even with a 1200 sq dehumidifier and dumping a half gallon of water out of it a day my walls were still sweating. Finally left this year before rotting our RV out.
When you insulate your next boat take a look at using cork .. it works well and its very safe. Its also recyclable ..you can also add it as a decking material or flooring. . Its also anti mold and bacterial by nature and fire retardent. Its available in a wide range of thicknesses finishes densities and textures as well as colours. Take a look at a NZ cat called Cool change.. originally a Derick Kelsall design. 😉😎🧙♂️🇬🇧
Just the best information. I've just done a lot of sailing and I'm still learning from you guys. For the canvas wrap over a cracked hull. (Of course see the movie In Harms Way where skipper John Wayne does this on a WWII destroyer). Here's a data point. I built a wooden kayak, then I cut two 4" (100mm) bulkheads out of medium density foam. They were carefully and accurately cut, oversized.they were so tight it took me over an hour each to mallet hammer them into position. Tight. No light around the edges. I figured, good enough for sea trials, and seeing if I should move them fore or aft.... caulk the edges later. Got rolled by a tricky reflected wave. My hull filled up like those bulkheads weren't even there. 20-30 cm max submersion so not that much pressure. Totally surprised me. Of course I'd do the canvas, but at best I would expect it to only slow the water coming in, buy some time, give the pumps -- or the foam (I like that) a chance to work. I'd try to put a think squishy yoga mat over the hole first if possible. (I use yoga mats for everything except yoga.) Take photos of your freezer/fridge layers as you load up. Then when it's all frosted over and you're looking for the lamb chops, you just flip through the photos to find out what layer they're on. Also photos of what's in the hatches and cupboards (Make a label that will be in the images saying which bilge hole/cabinet it is. Fastest way to make an inventory. I left my puffy coat home (stinks too easily) My merino wool layers however, after 33 days wearing them 24/7 over cotton t-shirts and undies that did stink -- still do not stink at all! (Shower change of undies about every 5 days. TMI? sorry) I don't think I even washed my merino before the trip. I know we just get used to our funk... but I keep sneaking up on them. Nope, just smell lanolin. The big Aran Islands sweater I wore above them also still doesn't stink, but it is getting a bit pilly. I was repeatedly told, the north Pacific "just isn't going to be that cold.' so I left my sleeping bag at home. A $25 SOL emergency bivy however made a terrific sleeping bag and was quite durable. I rolled it up and can use it again. I always travel with a sleeping bag liner.
Stay careful and prioritize safety, my friend, 👍👍👍
Sweet on your way! Keep the sunny side up and the heavy side down…you got this. 🙏
Capetown was very pretty with all the lights on as you left early. Good luck with this new section of your voyage
Beam me up Scotty. A man and his new 🔦. Excellent soothing musical score, perfect. Thanks for sharing.

But there is so much violent crime! It’s frightening

Best sailing channel!
So happy you're getting through well so far. We love y'all, be safe. You are in our thoughts and prayers!
Dehumidifiers could help with condensation, I thought you had some that you used in Thailand.
So great to watch a new video! Have a safe passage :)

Good to have you guys back under sail!
u can fix condensation by turning on ac, some ac's even have a dehumifyer mode ^^
Be safe and have a safe passage
It's a tricky time of the year to head out of Cape Town. It can be a tough journey up the West Coast.
I thought all the stores in South Africa were looted last year and even recently with both building and car fires all over the place. Glad to see that you were able to get some shopping done and that store wasn't vandalized.
Your family is gorgeous!
Maybe a dehumidifier would solve the condensation.
Your narrative voice has improved soo much, maybe a future in t v travel someday Ben,keep those beauties safe.
Have you thought of a dehumidifier? It'll help with the condensation and increase comfort when you get into humid conditions.
Barefootdoctors is a great channel!
Safe journey!
nice flashlight.... safety first..... salam dari Indonesia
❤ Safe travels ❤
Great epp! Looking forward to watching the crossing. You guys have evolved as safe sailors, well done and good luck!

Ryan hall y'all said the el nino might not be strong enough, so less wind-shear dissuading hurricanos
Safe journey!
This was oddly calming…. Driving out of SA in the dark
Have a safe voyage
Safe journey guys 🤗💞
You guys are definitely behind the clock leaving. Glad you made the leap
Stay Safe Guys
Getting off the skeleton coast isnt easy ...as the name implies...
But you do miss the amazing Namib coastal dunes.
stay safe😊❤
El Nido affect you there? It’s doing stuff here in the phils. Can you get a dehumifier?
Snow in Africa. Never knew that 😂👍
Reading this week that the Atlantic Ocean hasn't been this warm in many years and in many areas to the north. Be cautious
Question, because I am curious...would something like Flex Seal or Flex Tape work for small hull intrusions?
Why don't you just stay the winter in Capetown? I love your videos, thank you and may God Bless and protect you and your family.
Rgds,
Mark
Could you guys make a video on EPIRBS?
Has anyone heard from Nahoa?
safe passage my other family . . .
