    I saw a documentary once where a photographer went deep into the rainforest and visited with a people who live high up in the rainforest trees. He commented on how surprised he was that such little children would live up there with no railings or safety protection to keep them from falling to their deaths. When he asked the leader of the tribe if children ever fell off the platforms high up in the trees, he responded with a confused, "No... never." He explained that the children in their tribe learn very early how to behave. Duh. Living on a sailboat is, I imagine, no different from raising kids anywhere else... We teach our children what we expect, how to behave, how to be safe, etc. Good parents raise their children. Safe travels.

      Great story but I was thinking along those lines.... Things can happen at sea in an instant. The most seasoned sailors have died at sea due to the unpredictability of the vast ocean. Please don't get me wrong because I believe they are the most attentive parents ever! My fear is, say it's in the middle of the night and something unexpected happens and they are all in the water and the children don't have their life vest on. Well fill in the rest.

      @@MaineUSA With that mentality, how on earth did humans get to this day and age?
      The real world is stunning, fulfilling, educational and yes, very dangerous.
      However, where would any of us be, if our ancestors didn't take risks, exposing their families to a rougher life, in order to finish with a much more wonderful life?
      Humans adapt, unless they're manipulated into fearing absolutely everything, then nothing happens, progression-wise.

    What a fabulous childhood your kids are having. 70 years ago, when I was a child, we visited a waterfall with a viewing area at the base. All the people were looking up at the falls, but my Mom and I walked through the woods, crawled down the rocks to the top edge of the falls. I learned to see things differently and 7 decades later I'm still comfortable hanging out at the edge. Those kids have experienced more at their age than some people will in a lifetime. Be well. As always I enjoyed the video.

    This video was really refreshing. I have watched almost all of your RUclips videos since the beginning and the circumnavigation was starting to look exhausting towards the end. It was fun and inspiring to see you starting to get back to your roots of adventure. Where you’re at in your family situation looks similar to where my wife and I are at with our own family although we have a few more kids(5). We are done with the baby stage, our oldest is 12 and youngest is 2 and a half. With the oldest able to babysit my wife and I are able to sneak away for dinner to enjoy each others company much easier than having to round up a babysitter. Time to enjoy the next chapter in life🍻

    Great to see Ashley back out on a board, and rocking her freckles in a two-piece. The channel was build on the combination of her bad ass vibe and Ben's goofy giant thing, and though the camera is drawn to those kids, it's nice to see the double act still in good form.

      Here here adds I, lonesome land bound Texan here. Yes to more of the marvelous same. Getting to watch what your growing babies notice and observe is so fun. We see the gears of life turning in their minds as they silently in their alone time think back and connect the dots to the bigger picture. Anyway you parse it, those lil childrens give you gold on the daily as well as the difficult Pooh that’ll change into much more grownup dilemmas while some of the pooh drops by the wayside. So practice more grownup stuff for them to be amazed by. Can’t hurt a bit. Love yous guys.

    I've commented before in a positive way but my heart is in my mouth when the kids are not wearing their life jackets. You two can swim, they cant. If one of you children fall over board it's going to take a time for you to 1 realise their not there and 2 to down sail and go back. Having life jackets on will give them and you a fighting chance to rescue them. I don't think I'm being over protective just common sense, they can't swim? I too had fun with my son and put him in situations which could of caused him harm. He's now 27 and rock climbing, jump biking, down hill racing etc. but he uses all the equipment to keep himself safe.
    Don't make life more difficult than it needs to be, your amazing parents keep up the good work ❤

I raised two at home in cloth, and while a pain to clean and wash, I can't imagine storing all those disposables on board in the heat. I think , the biggest disadvantage is that your kids don’t interact with kids of the same age - not sure what the impact is when they are old, having raised our kids I noticed this is a very important for them growing up for a multitude of reasons, but leave it for the experts to comment or give their advice…

    • @edwardpardy7866
      @edwardpardy7866 9 месяцев назад

      I was raised very rural and had limited contact with kids my own age, I learned early on to interact with adults, neighbors, my older sister, and other kids older and younger. As time went on I also found that I didnt miss hanging out with my own ''age'' group exclusively. I honestly think that it isnt as important as some people think. My current group of close friends starts at 25 years old at the youngest and our oldest friend is 70. We hang out together as a group all the time. We each contribute something different and are all valued members of the group and found age is just a number, nothing more. If I grew up only hanging out with kids my own age, I doubt we would have the awsome range of friends. Just my take on it.
