  • Mario Lanza's beautiful voice is in combination with paintings by old master artists.
"'We Three Kings', also known as 'We Three Kings of Orient Are' or 'The Quest of the Magi', is a Christmas carol written by the Reverend John Henry Hopkins, Jr., who wrote both the lyrics and the music. It is suggested to have been written in 1857 but did not appear in print until his Carols, Hymns and Song in 1863. John Henry Hopkins, Jr., then an ordained deacon in the Episcopal Church,[1] was instrumental in organizing an elaborate holiday pageant (which featured this hymn) for the students of the General Theological Seminary in New York City in 1857 while serving as the seminary's music director. In 1872 Hopkins was ordained an Episcopal priest and later served as rector at Christ Episcopal Church (Williamsport, PA)." The above quote is from: en.wikipedia.or...
The photos of Mario are from his film The Great Caruso. This film and his others are available for purchase from Turner Classic Movies.
The paintings and their artists are listed below in order of their appearance in the video:

This is awesome! I grew up listening to Mario Lanza. He was my father's favorite singer. It wouldn't be Christmas in our house without this album :) He has the most amazing tenor voice I've ever heard.

Thank you so much for your comment. It is always good to hear from you.
One of my cousins some time back sent me an e-mail which showed the photo of the "God's Eye" nebula. I thought it was amazing. What a great picture to show His connection to us on earth.
I am happy that you like the paintings. It's my pleasure as an artist to select paintings which I feel would rightly accompany Mario's beautiful voice and the emotion with which he fills the songs.
Thank you again for your kind comments.

We three kings of orient are
    Bearing gifts we traverse afar
    Field and fountain
    Moor and mountain
    Following yonder star
O star of wonder, star of night
    Star with royal beauty bright
    Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy perfect light
Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
    King for ever, ceasing never
    Over us all to reign
    Frankincense to offer have I
    Incense owns a Deity nigh
    Prayer and praising
    All men raising
    Worship Him, God most high
O star of wonder, star of night
    Star with royal beauty bright
    Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy perfect light
    Myrrh is mine
    It's bitter perfume breathes
    A life of gathering gloom
    Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying
Sealed in the stone cold tomb
    Glorious now behold Him arise
    King and God and Sacrifice
    Al-le-lu-ia, al-le-lu-ia
    Heaven to earth replies
O star of wonder, star of night
    Star with royal beauty bright
    Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy perfect light

Tyr1345 Someone in the accompanying choir, no doubt. A basso profundo, I would say. A BP is the deepest male voice in pitch. Waaaay down in the basement. Very few men are BPs.
