    I have a 1999 Ford and it’s just as good or better than a new one, it had a little under 190,000 miles on it when I bought it but runs like new. I prefer older because it’s cheaper and I bought with cash at 20 years old.

    I beg to differ my friend on your switch from Ram to Fooord, haha 😛. First of all, which brand is mostly a personal choice. My first consideration is the powertrain, in that regard Cummins is the proven reliable choice . There are more fleets and owner operator rigs powered by Cummins than any other motor available combined. Ford used to offer a CAT engine,but has discontinued that relationship, too bad that was a great combo. I’ve had four Dodge/Cummins rigs . One had to be in frame majored (under warranty). They all racked up mileage without serious problems. Most issues are caused by poor driver choices. Good luck with Ford. KEEP ON TRUCKING😎

    I’d buy a cab and chassis in case you decide you want to go cdl later. I 100percent agree with the Ford. I would buy the Buckeye hauler low pro. You can haul vans and other places. You can buy from them directly and they have them across the country in stock.

    We have 2 Take 3 and 1 Maxlite and the Take 3 weights in at about 5,200LBS, the Maxlite actually scale at about 5,000LBS. We just ordered another Maxlite but only because Take 3 is about 4 months out with orders. They also both use a 48" axle spread which makes for better control and ride. The tool box is kind of a joke on both as they don't hold much gear. The low pro Maxlite actually weighs in at around 5,200LBS for some reason. That weight is not including a winch or the tool box stuffed with goodies you will need. The treads are stated as medium duty but both trailer treads seem pretty heavy duty and we have no failures to date. The paint on the Take 3 seems to be a bit better as the paint on the Maxlite scratches pretty easy, maybe the paint is thinner to make it weigh less???? Just kidding, or am I?

    You didn't subtract the 4900 lbs of the trailer weight from the rated weight of the trailer. If the trailer is rated for 14000lbs subtract 4900 to get your max payload of 9100 lbs. Tough to find 3 vehicles that each weigh less than 3000 pounds. Basically a 3 car hauler is not viable for non cdl.

    • @majortransportservices
      @majortransportservices 6 месяцев назад

      Hey guys I was just reading the comments and I was wondering the same thing... Why wasn't the weight of the trailer added into the total configuration of the tow load? I see this happening alot! Alot of guys dont seem to subtract the weight of the trailer. I thought most 1 tons weigh at 14k leaving you with 12k left, then when you subtract the weight of the trailer for a derated 12k. then subtract the weight of the trailer which is about 6k for a 40' trailer leaving you with only 6k to haul.

    We have Non CDL hotshotters around here I like to call “hot dumpers”, they pull 5th wheel dump trailers hauling gravel and dirt and are a big source of competition and headache for my partner and I because they’re always underbidding us. Our main setup is a 1983 Mack R688ST with a 1972 28’ Penn aluminum dump trailer. The truck and trailer weigh 28,000 empty and can haul 88,000 on the 2 lane, meaning we can move almost 30 tons legally each trip. The “hot dumpers” are usually running over 26k (illegal..remember non cdl) trying to pack all they can onto their little trailers, they usually get about 4.5 tons on. The scary part is how fast they drive trying to keep up because they have to make 6 trips to our 1, but the DOT has been cracking down thank god and business has been picking up again for us. They weren’t much competition for dirt work but they were giving us a serious run for our money moving gravel.

    • @hotshothaulers
      @hotshothaulers  3 года назад

      I really would have never thought someone would do that. You don’t see that around here but I guess there’s not as much moving. I’m glad that your business is picking back up

    • @J.R.in_WV

      Hotshot Haulers I think it was a “fad” of sorts. One guy started a little company advertising hauling of gravel and dirt and was running 3 1 ton dodges and trailers. By the time 6 months had passed there were at least 10 copycats doing the same thing but not nearly as neat or professional. I thought the first guy had a neat idea, some people only need 3 or 4 tons of gravel delivered. It wasn’t until the fly by nights started that it became a race to the bottom. Appreciate the positive words, we lost out on a few steady hauls but the customers found out pretty quick when it comes to big jobs these guys were a joke. I think Hotshotting is great when it comes to moving general cargo and such over the road. It gives the big LTL carriers some much needed competition.

    • @fewworddotrick
      @fewworddotrick 2 года назад

      Thats funny that you're in WV, I live in WV too and know exactly what you're talking about. I have a dump trailer and I've hauled gravel many times for myself and family members, but I always see guys at the quarry trying to pay off their $80k truck wearing it out hauling gravel every weekend and not licensed or insured to do it. Pretty common in WV. I've even seen half tons doing it. Now I know some of them are for personal use but you can generally tell when they aren't. I'm sure they'll find out there isn't much money in it unless you do it the right way and get serious with it. To me it wouldn't be worth the stress. You kill someone hauling that heavy and their insurance/the police does some quick investigating and they'll put 2 and 2 together pretty quick when they see you've bought 40 loads of gravel last month and making a bunch of cash deposits in the bank.

      Corp Vet It would be really close but i’m not sure it’ll come out under 65’. measure your truck from the center of the fifth wheel where the pin sits to the back bumper, that’s how much length you can knock off your total. On an 8’ bed I’d say you probably have 5 feet from the pin to the bumper, so that would put you at 68 feet but I’m no expert, I only run the big stuff. I can tell you our mack daycab with a 28’ end dump is pretty much 46 feet on the nose.
