The backbone of the new trailer is great, weight, length, axles etc.. you’re dealing with setup issues very well, that might be what it takes to really get it right because they just don’t do that at the factory. Maybe buy a laser and do your own alignments ? Excellent video and thank you for sharing numbers and details.

Wow so many opinions!! I’ve owned all kinds of trucks, trailers, at one time I owned 15 tractor trailers. There’s always going to be problems with something. Even when you have 5 of the same truck or trailer usually one or two of them are gonna cause problems. Just have to roll with the punches. Alex you do a really good job and once again your videos help a lot of people out. Most don’t want to take the time. Keep it up bro. ✌️

Alex, your videos are some of the most interesting of all the hotshot channels. I like how you leave the messages from those who disagree with you, because so many just delete those kind... you've got guts. Your energy is in a class of its own, but you could slow down the pace a bit and come through clearer - I think you know that. One of the reasons that you have more subscribers than anyone else is that you create controversy. And the Big Tex brand is at the root of this. No trailers are perfect, but this economy model definitely has some trade-offs for sure. I see that you read the comments, and are more open-minded than most, so if some day you do change your mind about your choice, I would not be surprised. The ultimate sign of strength of character is when someone openly admits they were wrong and then just moves on. 😉

With dual torflex axles you are more likely to pop a tire going over a pot hole because they don't act like a reg leaf dual. If i remember correctly dexter themselves doesn't recomend duals or triples that are too close to each other. You can search for torflex axle duals problems. Don't know if they are too close but something to be aware of and look out for.

Alex, I've been running a hotshot up here in the Pacific NW for several years now and myself and 3 other hotshot guys up here all use Load Trail trailers that we bought down in Texas at The Trailer Guys dealerships. Best trailers by far, no issues and we have all put hundreds of thousands of miles on them, so they've been tested! Plus the neck is only 93 inches on those trailers, exactly what you need. Their trailers are also light, under 7,000lbs for a 2 axle non cdl 40footer. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I have a 1997 mfr date horse trailer with living quarters with. Dexter 8 k torflex axles 12 .25 x 3 brakes (until I fitted hydraulic disc brakes with a dexter brake pump). You will find the 8000 pound brake sets are way longer lasting and more durable. I have used oil bath for a long time. I run the bearings with faint preload to stop the slop that shortens seal life.

A true 8k Dexter with the 3 3/8" brake drum and oil bath is a must-have upgrade for the money IMO for a guy that's bumping it down the road all day trying to make a living. Heavier running gear is going to hold up better. Torsion axle vs spring is a tougher one...torsion you have to be a little more careful with were as spring is a little more forgiving, but with added maintenance. The tires they put on there are probably still off brand crap from Asia though.

Hang some comforters on your office wall to stop the echo.
That rusty milkshake is water and rust contaminated oil. That is not a good sign. Was there rust on the bearing races?
Now, you need to carry a grease gun and a bearing packing set (that funnel shaped packing set) so you can repack your bearings every 5000 miles. A supply of inner seals and dust caps would be good.
Or, get some advice from a marine/boat trailer shop that knows how to make bearings tolerate harsh environments.

I pulled a 53' flatbed gooseneck with a 2020 Ram 3500 all up and down the I-5 corridor. The company I was working for has gone to court and won against the California Highway Patrol and we all carried a copy of the court judgment in our registration binder but I was never bothered. The key is that we had a 100 gallon fuel tank in the bed leaving less than 34 sp fi of bed space and, as long as you don't carry property in the bed you are a truck tractor not a straight truck. You can carry any equipment for the truck, trailer and tie downs but not shipper property on the truck. I'm CDL but that is not really the issue except that the 53' trailer is heavier and Non-CDL couldn't haul much on a 53'.

Have the area around where the axles meet the chassis reinforced with extra steel so that the axles don't start tearing off from all the driving and vibrations.

Ask Human about big Tex trailers . At the length of the trailer the axles will always be over loaded.

Firstly - nice video and thanks for the information you are sharing. That has to be one of the poorest quality mainstream trailers on the market, I would never give my hard earned money the BigTex, I did ALOT a reading and talking to people years ago when I was wanting a new trailer and I singled out two manufacturers, US based Diamond C and Canadian based Precision Trailers, both are very well built and high quality trailers which I would recommend to anybody to take a look at before parting with your money. I decided to buy the Diamond C trailer as the shipping from Canada was quite expensive for the Precision.

That silver trailer is galvanized and the holes are for stakes to contain the load.

If you break down in the middle of nowhere, it will cost you much more than the warranty.

With the down time you get from a broken vehicle when your “working” not using it for personal use, the warranty is worth nothing if you break down and are hundreds of miles away from a place that is willing and able to service the trailer as well as it may be parked for a month, so in simple terms it’s a lot cheaper to fix it yourself in 1 day, not pay a towing company to get it to a big Tex, $300 minimum and it goes up from there In the thousands, the warranty probably does not cover labor do there’s more money being spent after hotel, down time and if you had to hire a towing company to deliver your load plus the food you are eating and dealerships don’t make money on warranty repairs so they usually are not in a rush and they charge a ton of money. Yes this sucks and sometimes you can use the warranty but in the business of making money it’s not worth the down time to warranty a transport vehicle, at my company rarely do we take the truck to the dealership only for them to wait 30 days just sitting until they might be able to work on it and then the dealership makes up a ton of excuses to not warrant the truck and say it’s your fault their was a failure, for instance, your truck won’t go into drive because you have not done the engine oil change, we usually service the truck on everything before taking it to the dealer, so no it’s north worth the warranty if the downtown exceeds the warranty repair, hence why he used to buy new trailers every year so they would have no wear and tear and could at least have a chance at 1 year worth of use on the road, where I work after 5 years on our comercial trucks they buy new ones because we are 90% off road and the shaking and vibrations eats these trucks up where they feel like if we have been driving them for 30 years

The dealer doesn't put the required DOT reflective on the trailer, as they are selling it for private use. Being commercial is where you run into the problem. I buy the reflective in 100 ft rolls and then have it as needed.
I pay $363 for 10 K backing plates with hydraulic brakes. I need to email you some information on where I get mine, shipped UPS. They are cheaper than buying direct from Dexter.

Have you ever looked into Texas Pride making you a trailer? I saw some videos on then and they seem like they are really nicely built with good quality control and options for 9k single wheel axles

They are pretty nice trailers priced well. The only down side is the paint sucks, it chips real easy but a rattle can touches it right up.

warren michael that’s interesting, the video I saw was showing and talking about how much pride they take in prep and painting their trailers, mentioning many other manufactures don’t care as much as them

@@lParohlx I know, i watched their videos too. I had heard before i bought mine that the paint wasnt great but i needed a trailer and they had exactly what i needed and had it ready in a little over a week. Im telling you, the paint chips if you look at it to hard! LOL I guess the reason they are cheaper than other trailers is because they dont use expensive powder coating. I use mine everyday and do not mind it chipping and scratching. I just use some black spray paint every now and then.

I have a 41 ft Texas Pride with the 9K axles. I have my CDL but have my setup for 26,000 to stop from messing with IFTA. I have an H Plate(26,000 pound) on my truck and an ST plate( semi trailer) on the trailer. The truck plate carries all the weight since the ST trailer plate doesnt have a weight rating.

You live in Texas now, why not order directly from them with your specifications and have it delivered through a local dealer instead of Pennsylvania? It sounds like they did not inspect for milky oil in your axles or alignments before you took delivery of it?

Alex, do you know if Big Tex has corrected their initial quality problems? Why did you go all the way to PA to get that trailer? Isn’t it available any closer to you?
I have talked to my local enterprise about the long term truck rental at .22 cents per mile. They give me a look like I’m crazy! Can you give me a name and number of someone with enterprise that knows what that program is? Please! Don L.

Yeah I noticed they're doing that on a lot of new trailers and under trailer systems it's an electro galvanized coating same thing is done on roadside guard rails. I think the paint looks a lot better.
