Anyone who says this method is wrong is talking waffle. Had a nightmare trying to bleed my brother in laws zafira. Coolant bubbling out the top doing it with the cap off and squeezing the hoses. Found this video. Drained it, refilled. All good to go now. Thank you!!

A lot of armchair opinions here. It's OK to take the cap of from first warm up after a refill, even if the fans have kicked in, if your car is ready to erupt coolant at warm up, you have a serious problem then.

Yh its wrong for sure, remove cap 💯 im a level 3 imi mechanic. To put things simple the header tank is the highest point of the engine if you take cap off header and run engine to temp 90°c it'll actually be just over 90 and the thermostat will open up fully and circulation will be full flow and fan will kick in to hold temp at this point the air will naturally travel up and out the header tank.. ps keep heaters on full blast the heater matrix behind dash is a miniature radiator basically and is hooked up to the cooling system so with heaters running flow through the matrix will allow air locks to escape

its funny because I thought this was completely wrong until I read it in a Vauxhall repair manual.

      Alan ,
      1. the coolant cap should be off to let any air out while the engines running.
      2. Heaters should be set to HOT to circulate the coolant around the heater matrix and release any airlocks in the system.
3 when the engine fan kicks in keep an eye on the coolant level so see if it needs topping up.. top up to MAX marker if need be
wait 1 more time for the engine fan to kick in and keep an eye on the coolant level. if the level stays on the max marker and no more air bubbles due to airlocks then put the coolant cap back on.
      switch engine off.
wait till the engine has cooled down completely before checking the coolant level. if it's dropped then top up as need be.
doing it the video way you risk the chance of having airlocks. that's not how it's done.

let me say it again. This the vauxhall procedure

    • @Litesnip2022
      @Litesnip2022 6 лет назад +8

Fix and Drive Vauxhall suggests a lot of things. doesn't mean it's the correct way.
it's a sealed system, so we're do you expect the trapped air to escape from if you keep the cap on? vauxhall also recommend to service some of there car range at 20k intervals. you would be an idiot to follow that advice.
just because vauxhall says it's the correct way, doesn't mean it is the right way.
the dislikes are telling you something.

HI. the temperature probe on the board computer (the one that kicks the fan on) is located on the thermostat or on the back of the engine? thanks and regards.

Located on the coolant flange. Either on the thermostat itself or bottom right of the engine
