Great explanation. When I have the time, I typically leave the funnel in place (loosely covered to avoid debris entry) at the end of the burping process. I remove it after the system cools. This avoids handling of the hot coolant and allows some additional coolant to be drawn into the system as it contracts. After removing the funnel with remaining cooled liquid, I then just draw some coolant out of the reservoir until it's at the proper level.
Great video man . The reason they have a have a max level is so there is a volume of air to act as a " shock absorber" in the hydraulics of the coolant system.

Oh yeah. If you open the radiator cap.. with any old rubber coated cotton glove, you can bleed the overflow hoses by forcing air and coolant into the passage meant for over pressure by moving the cap until it gurgles lol 😂 then it’s relatively safe once the temp drops. Even hot. I’d recommend like.. getting to thermostat temp then waiting 5-10min.

I hope you still answer questions on this video, i was just in a accident in my other vehicle and my family is down to one car and Im needing to use this tool to get the air out the coolant system. This is where Im confused. Was your coolant system totally empty? I was doing mine after a flush, so it was bone dry. One confusion is I thought the temperature gauge in the car dont suppose to move at all. Ive heard that if your temperature gauge moves its still air in the system OR are you saying only through this process the temperature needle in tbe car should drop down when the thermostat opens? After doing this the temperature needle in the car shouldn't move right? Respectfully, you said you want to wait till you see the bubbles stop in the funnel.. as you notice the bubbles stopped once you started closing the bleeder. So do you keep letting it come out the bleeder till you stop seeing bubbles in the funnel or wait till you have a steady stream coming out the bleeder? Did it stop showing bubbles because your reservoir was full or the best thing to do is let some more out the bleeder close it and wait till no bubbles in funnel before the reservoir gets full? Last question, its 2 or 3 adapters I could use. The red one fits into the smaller hole in the reservoir and the metal cap fits on but the gasket falls off the red one when pulling it out.. the black adapter fits more to the top main entry of the reservoir and pushes down snug when i put the metal cap on. The yellow one i have fits like yours but I cant get the metal cap to twist on. Did you have a little struggle getting your metal cap on to make sure its air tight? Sorry for so many questions, this is the best video explaining how to use this tool. There youtube channel instructions are horrible.
hi. I had to change hose and thermoastat so most of coolant was gone yes. once all replaced, I filled with coolant etc, and started to the burping the air out process. its not end of the world if you don't do it. but do the bleeder valve at least if have one. but its good to do it, to get rid of the air pockets in the hoses etc. as to the kit, as long as you can mount it, so coolant don't leak out when you have it filled you are fine. little drip you should be fine. they say adapters are for all makes but who knows. if bubbles mostly gone you should have most air gone. maybe 10 min or so for the process . or whatever I mentioned in the video. I hope this help. best of luck.
So, does it matter at what time you start the car and turn heat up? I've seen other people have the car on and the heat up the whole entire time. So we can turn car on after coolant is added? I'm learning. Thanks so much for this informative video. Have a prosperous new 2024 ❤

Thanks
Great vid! I only have one question, you didn't remove the excess liquid as it will "overflow and drain out". How does that work? Does it go back into the overflow reservoir? I've been told to not add coolant above the max line for my 78 TA. What should I do?
1. You must wear gloves when touching coolant 2. Bleeding and that extra gadget BIG funnel is not necessary if you do the following: pour slowly; squeeze the hoses; push acceleration repeatedly for 2min while running the engine and top off coolant; turn the car but not the engine on max heat but on low, run the car in inspection mode. You spilled all that coolant. You must wash that off as coolant can destroy things.
So, some one just told me to do this because I put coolant in the reservoir but when I crank the car it drains but there isn't any leaks. The radiator is not full. So does doing this help with my issue?
Make sure radiator is filled up and what’s needed I reservoir tank. This process is just to clear the lines from any air pockets. Once u have the coolant in
What if a car doesnt have a bleeder? My vehicle also does not run up to temp for fans/thermostat opening without the coolant res cap on. Will using this funnel method allow my car to get up to temp for thermostat open? I noticed you said your thermostat was opening but it wasnt even at 20c. Mine opens at 97c.
Good video, yeah you could leave the heater fans off the get the engine up to temp quicker. Some cars have a valve for coolant flow to the heater core energized by turning on the heat but if it were my car I would remove that valve so coolant flows 100% of the time keeping the lines and the core clean. Just some thoughts.
So if I changed my Radiator and It needs to be filled up with no Radiator cap, I would just fill it up like u did through the reservoir and it wil travel to the radiator and fill it up?
lol it won’t explode.. check the pressure in hoses. I just.. ie now… ran a v8 Holden to 92c and the hoses had little pressure. Since it has a massive reservoir, I just burp it using its own system lolz. If a vacuum is pulled it sucks it in. If more than 140kpa, blow off. Bleed the blow off hose. Imagine sucking in air lol you’re supposed to go through a full cycle of cooldown so when vacuum is pulled it gets fluid. Anyway I opened the radiator periodically even at full 92c running temp. Thermostat runs from 86-92. I definitely agree you shouldn’t touch it unless you know wtf you’re doing. I also didn’t need to put heater on since I have no valve. The car constantly blends hot and cold to create air currents in car
Hey thanks for the tip I just replace the thermostat on my 2014 caravan and after it was running hot when I was getting on the gas but cooling back down eventually I think I have air in it I'm going to try this
Great video I have been doing this but the temperature gauge on my 5.7 Durango is fluctuating up and down sooner I hit traffic I can see the temperature jump to midel and then come back down but before i did a radiator flush the temperature gauge was stable wasn’t fluctuating ! Any help appreciated thank you
I have a 2003 Honda Civic LX with no bleeder valve and did everything this man did and it still didn't work. What I found out later is that you leave that funnel with coolant attached after shutting off the engine. Do not plug it. Let the coolant and engine cool overnight. As the coolant in the radiator and engine gets cold it contracts creating a vacuum sucking more coolant from the funnel. If you remove the fumnel too early, you risk sucking in air instead.
Thank you I have one question I already placed not even one gallon of coolant in my engine I can I still do this process or will I need to drain all of the coolant and start this procedure from the begining?
Best explained burp I've watched so far....i did all this except for the waiting for the temperature to reach half way already. If i do these steps now will it correct the temp?
It seems like i cant get all the bubbles out at all. Even after the cars been running for over 20-25 minutes. Should i just keep letting it run until its all gone? I stepped on the gas pedal and squeezed the hoses. When gassing there r no bubbles but when i squeeze the hoses there r still bubbles coming out. Please help

Where you get the little adapter peice? at 2:00?
So if I changed my Radiator and It needs to be filled up with no Radiator cap, I would just fill it up like u did through the reservoir and it wil travel to the radiator and fill it up?
great video for no radiator cap cars. I am off to give it a go. I'll let all know my outcome.
👊
Nice video and very informative. Thank you for sharing.
lol it won’t explode.. check the pressure in hoses. I just.. ie now… ran a v8 Holden to 92c and the hoses had little pressure.
Will this still work if the bleeder valve is on my coolant reservoir?
Same idea
Hey great video, question tho, what if mines had coolant in it already, can I still do this? I have the kit
Yeah. Can do it anytime honestly if you think wasn’t burped
can you please send me the link to the exact reservoir funnel kit you used in the video? Thanks! im now a SUBSCRIBER OF YOURS!
Link is in the description. Thanks 👊
When driving around town it stays steady now. When driving on highway temp goes up to 3/4 mark. Any thoughts if you have a moment?
Thermostat working? Opening up. If radiator fans not kicking in, or heat not working. It might be locked up thermostat.
Awesome Video, Thank you but I paid for the same Funnel Kit $44.00 at O’Reilly’s, well I just bought today, 2024.
oh yeah. automotive stores will be pricier. i think same with autozone next to me. amazon its in the 20's
Hey thanks for the tip I just replace the thermostat on my 2014 caravan and after it was running hot when I was getting on the gas but cooling back down eventually I think I have air in it I'm going to try this
Do it. 👍👊
@@HowToWithLech worked thanks
I have a 2007 dodge 3.7 nitro 4wd I have a radiator cap and reservoir which should I use to bleed my system ?
I would do the radiator cap. How I did my other car
Great video, the actual way it should be done
Can your thermostat work some of the time and then get stuck closed?
Yes.
Great video I have been doing this but the temperature gauge on my 5.7 Durango is fluctuating up and down sooner I hit traffic I can see the temperature jump to midel and then come back down but before i did a radiator flush the temperature gauge was stable wasn’t fluctuating !
Any help appreciated thank you
Thermostat is good right. Also both houses air squeezed out. And bleeder valve if yiu have one.
Was your coolant cloudy when emptied back into container? It definitely wasn't as bright and vibrant as when you first filled it
I didn’t flush out clean old coolant. Just drained it. So yeah I’m sure it affected it a little.
👍👊
Thank you I have one question I already placed not even one gallon of coolant in my engine I can I still do this process or will I need to drain all of the coolant and start this procedure from the begining?
That’s fine. You need it full to burp it. So keep going 👊
Should the bleeder valve be closed when the car is running ?
Yes. Just bleed when ready and close back up
Do you have to do this method after replacing the water pump also ?
if changing water pump its a good idea to change the fluid to. but yeah, you will need to make sure no air pockets sitting et.
Badass!! I have an '08 Charger and just did this yesterday. Im glad i did it right. 😂
Nice 👊
Was it bubbling before you did the bleeding ?
As sucks in liquid yeah. I think it was
I fully understood and enjoyed this video. Thank you
Thank you
Best explained burp I've watched so far....i did all this except for the waiting for the temperature to reach half way already. If i do these steps now will it correct the temp?
Should. Good to let heat up. So thermostat opens up etc.
Please help
Did you do the valve too. Then hoses after
@@HowToWithLech what do you mean valve? The thermostat?
@@andyl9920 sorry. i meant the bleeder valve. at the 2:14 mark
@@HowToWithLech i think my 2011 Pilot does not have a bleeder valve
@@andyl9920 aha. ok. if you got most of it out you should be fine. i think there will also be a little tiny ones left. not familiar with your cars hose setup. but i think you shoudl be good.
Legend and a half, thanks heaps mate.. from Australia
Happy to help 👊
can you do it once without opening the bleeding valve?
Yes. Some cars don’t have the bleeder valve. But good to utilize it if you do.
So what do you do if your coolant is above the maximum after this ?
remove with hose pump, or something of that sort. but honestly the reservoir has overflow, so it will just leak out.
Ive got a question, i noticed my dodge durango oursuit 40a fuse for the intercooler wasnt there, ive been running hot and overheating, once i burp the system like this will all the air be out once i plug the intercooler hose back on? Its right where you're bleeding from in the video
I replaced the fuse and am about to replace the thermostat also
Hello , i am using the same Lexus RX300, 1999 model engine 1MZFE . we accidently swap/connecting the Vacuum Surge Tank pipe to the water outlet there just below it. the system was filled with water until the water comes out at The Charcoal Canister through the Air Drain Horse, back there beyond the gas tank.. We have tried to remove the water by sucking and blowing through the pipes and even put the new service kit since we found some plugs socked in water. but still the car wont start but cranks. what advice can you give sir
Not sure to be honest. Sounds like a bigger issue. Not familiar with the car, so can’t advise more
You give alot of good tips . Thank you , i subbed .
Appreciate you 👍👊
Hi sir does it work the same as ford fiesta 1.6 automatic trans
Pretty universal process. See no issue why not
Just drill a 3/32 hole in the thermostat rim to let the air come out when youre filling the radiator.
Many thermostats come with a hole.
???
After replacing the radiator on my ‘19 Chrysler Pacifica and burping the cooling system using this method, from time to time I notice the coolant level is higher/lower than normal after seating overnight. Car is not overheating. Do you think I may still have sir in the system? My minivan no longer has the air bleeding screw from older models..
Hard to tell. But I think you are ok
@@HowToWithLech I found the problem, it was the coolant expansion cap O-rings that were swollen and deformed, hence the cap wasn’t holding pressure. I replaced the cap, coolant level and temperature range are fine now.
nice. thanks for sharing@@Mike_44
Had my water pump changed yesterday didn't over heat anymore didn't leak no more , gonna put on thermostat today just now after this video then bleed the system
👊👍
Awesome. Will watch again when motor cool down 😅
👍👊
Please help me understand. I don’t understand the necessity of having that much coolant in the reservoir or using this system. It seems to me that as long as you had enough coolant in the reservoir where it didn’t go low enough to suck in air that would be the same thing. I just don’t understand. Please help me I’m really trying to understand.
Everything else In the video was very helpful.
Thanks 🙏
Yeah it’s too much but that will overflow or you remove it once done. Just have to keep adding to burp the system
Can u do this process with Colent already instide
Yes.
Please help. Chrysler sebring 2002. Pretty much same set up. I turned the peacock and drained the radiator. Then when I filled the redivide the water level didn’t stop as it should have went into the radiator. It doesn’t and my motor for hot. Someone said I need to burp it. I opened the little release valve you said. But it just won’t go into the radiator or circulate and it has the flush stuff in the real or now.
Thermostat has to open too once gets got. And then it will get sucked up. That could be one thing. Fans work right.
Can you share a link where you got that kit?
Yes. I have a link in the description.
I notice when I turn sharply, I’ll lose my heat for a few seconds. Is this a symptom of air in the coolant system?
Possible. But not sure honestly
Just what I needed. Thanks for sharing!
👊
What if you already have coolant in there?
If no air pockets. You’re good. Normally you do this after flush or if you had to change something that involves draining some.
After I put my antifreeze in I let the engine run till the temperature gauge was halfway. Now, I opened the bleeder screw on the top of the engine. I did this 2 times and the air was out of the engine.
Nice 👊👍
I have a Toyota Camry 2001 2.2 Litter e tine 4 Cyl . I can hear a gnashing sounds like water in the top of my engine . Is that a Air in the intake .How do I get rid of that slashing sounds like a water ?Then I had a flaming engine lights But my car runs good How do I fixed this issue
Hard to tell without seeing. Have a mechanic look at it next oil change.
I did this to my 98 ranger and still cant get the dam air out of the lines. Put a New thermostat in too and seems like its not opening . I've been getting no heat in the cab too.
yeah. you need that thermostat to open up. wonder if they gave you a faulty one.
@@HowToWithLech it looked good and brand new but ya never know. Im going to get the other the coolant sending unit. Next time i get paid. Yesterday in Michigan it was about 55° so i took advantage to work on the truck. Today now is 31° and its was raining all day but now its almost 4:00 pm and its raining hail. We supposed to get a lot of snow tomorrow friday. Between the cold weather, crapy weather and having the funds has been a pain in the rear to get things done outside. Unfortunately i have no garage . any how my truck is not over heating . I know the activator to go from cold to hot is not working on the heater. So i tried to cut a whole to move the door on it to put it so i can get heat but the door seems spring loaded and just goes back. Seems the top radiator hose has air in it at least it feels like it. I put a new thermostat on too. The heater hoses barely feel warm going into the heater core. I even manually moved the heater activator if that's what its called and checked vacuum . I tried burping the coolant system and still got air in the lines. The only thing i seen to do is to loosen the heater core hose to see if i can get the extra air pockets out the top hose ? Its been a pain in the rear trying to fig this out. Like i said its not over heating . so i bought a car heater offline its coming saturday . Hopefully it'll de-ice the windows and get truck warm enough. You got any ideas ? Mine is a 98 ford ranger 3.0 .
@@jeffreypetree7163 i think you're doing it all right. not familiar with the truck so dont want to give you the wrong advice either. good luck. i hope it works out
