I changed my thermostat in my 2010 Forester XT and I still was some overheating. I watched your video and found out I fill the coolant very incorrectly. I re-did it after your video and no overheating and everything is perfect. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Man you saved my life with this vid. My car was fluctuating between 170-245° coolant temp all the way to and from work today, I thought i was gonna blow my motor and be out of work for months. I followed this vid to a T, and it worked like a charm, coolant sits happily at 175° now like it should. Bless you man 🙌 -for reference, my car is a 2011 wrx. This method works great for it.
Thank you! Finally someone that explains what ‘I’ actually wanted to know, as apposed to ,spending an entire ‘15 - 20 minute video’, just listening to themselves talk. About ‘everything but !’ 😵💫😁✌️
After a long and very frustrating day of working on the car I just wanted to say, this video saved the day thanks for your content my man. Made the process very easy and you are very professional. Very quality video👌
@@akqjtn hi from australia, i have a 2002 subaru wrx, my heater suddenly stopped working, then noticed a leak bottom of radiator , i just changed it installed new one, then coolent, then burping , while burping/bleeding with sealed funnel, engine on , its getting bubbles out but same time water keeps rising and spilling over looking all crazy. heater works off and on mainly off, no smell in cabin of leaks, no damp smell, , whole timing kit installed by mechanic 3 years ago. temp gage goes past the usual under half reading, same time fluctuating , i went changed genuine radiator cap, made it much better, but still not acting right and bubbling in reservoir and coolent rises up to full and more. twice I've heard strange quick like clicking noise at heater erea. no leaks, no head gasket leaks or from thermostat , no milky substange under oil cap, second day in working on it off and on. also had my car on 35 degree drive-way to aid in getting out air bubbles. as if coolent not circulating yet top and bottom radiator hose hot, 2 hoses on firewall to heater not hot, also flushed out with water hose , heater hoses also did a reseverse . I'm really thinking 2 things first heater core has blockage" yet clean water came out for 10 minutes from heater hoses, heater not working, may come on quickly then nothing. I'm thinking also could be thermostat" though 3 years old only, thinking grudgently to bypass heater hoses", or pull out thermostat. what is your opinion??. thanx.
Thank you for this video. I had a coolant leak after installing a turbo on my BRZ. I followed this video to the tee and had my car up and running within 1hr. Thank you
I watched your video and did this last night. The spill proof funnel kit is a total game changer. I went with the EPAuto one mostly because it was able to be delivered sooner. I do like that it's caps and adapters are color coded so you can easily match them. For my '05 WRX it was the green set. After filling I ran the car for nearly 30 minutes before it was no longer bubbling at all, massaging the upper hose throughout the process. I then shut if off and let it sit overnight. By pure luck, the level dropped to the exact right level in the upper coolant fill tank. Thanks for putting this together, awesome job!
Question just for clarification to avoid spillage: do you (1) squeeze AND HOLD the squeezed radiator hose, (2) insert the plunger/stopper while continuing to squeeze the hose, (3) release the squeezed hose, and then (4) remove the spill-free funnel?
@@craigcraigster4999 i think you can release the hose after inserting the plunger because it will reinflate with coolant and create a mild vacuum to suck the additional coolant into
Thank you, you just boosted my confidence to perform an engine flush & change out my old coolant with new ...your detailed information is priceless.thankyou.🎉
You make the best DIY videos! I don't have WRX but I end up watching your videos because you say the things the people Subarus I own don't, plus you are quick. You don't waste time saying and showing unnecessary things.
I did what you said about idling to 2500 rpm after 20 minutes and finally got last air bubbles out. Got nice hot air for winter months thanks to your instructions
Awesome step by step video. Keep making awesome content like this. I purchased a no spill coolant filling funnel kit with a flow valve from Amazon which made the job a breeze for this first timer.
I really appreciate your video. It was very helpful to change a water hose in my STI. Only for the clarity and detailed instructions in this video i did it without several issues. thanks! 🧑🏽🔧💪🏽
I just replaced my thermostat and water pump yesterday on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 liter and I will be burping it today. I have the burp funnel that came with no instructions, Go figure... Lol 😄 Your video was extremely helpful and very thorough. Thank you
Men, you are a blessing... thank you for sharing every details on how to flush the coolant on my wrx. Especially for a guy like me who's not very confident to try this dyi. With this i cannot make mistakes. Thank you... thank you brother. I truly appreciate you.
Hey brother thanks for taking the time to make this video I”ve seen lots of videos about this topic all over RUclips but with out a doubt this is the best video, everything is very well explained Step by step . God bless you
I have a 2003 Honda Civic LX with no bleeder valve and did everything this man did and it still didn't work. What I found out later is that you leave that funnel with coolant attached after shutting off the engine. Do not plug it. Let the coolant and engine cool overnight. As the coolant in the radiator and engine gets cold it contracts creating a vacuum sucking more coolant from the funnel. If you remove the fumnel too early, you risk sucking in air instead.
Still bubbling air, well over an hr.? Got to have another issue? Any ideas? Changed thermostat, no leaks, cooling fan cycled 3 times, still burning air like the beginning?
Thank you I burb it from that radiator and my 2002 Impreza wrx start overheating now I know what I did wrong thank you so much for your help you safe me
Fantastic video, great explanation! First time needing to bleed a system with a burp funnel instead of a valve, and this video was concise and informative.
I did a couple coolant changes on my car. I learned after the coolant settle and still bubbles a little bit Rev it to 4k a couples times to get all the air bubbles out. Now my car doesn't over heat.
Dude, this is the best video I have seen on how to do this. I saw a bunch of the before this and they were really bad, you were very concise and clear on your explanation. Thank you very much.
Thank you for the awesome video! Im doing my 30k fluid change tomorrow plus a coolant flush. Sure subaru says 137,500 miles for first flush, but i think 30k is a nice number or even 60k. I know 75k is the number after the first flush.
lol almost blew up the car today I wish I saw this earlier, brother spilt coolant all over my engine bay like a goon. Now I gotta clean it, get new coolant. And do this. Shit. Anyways thanks man! This is going to help
2007 STI over here. Just bought a brand new oem turbo and wasn't aware of this. Needless to say, I am now shopping for a new turbo. BUT... when my new one goes on, I'll be sure to properly purge the system of air and be sure all the fluids are at level where they need to be. Thanks for this video even though this was made 3 years ago. It's still relevant as a maintenance step to be sure your XT/WRX/STI is running in perfect shape!
Great video! My fans don’t come on with the heater on! They only come on when the AC is on! Why is this? Also when I drive the cooliant reservoir leaks a bit out
I gotta simple question: You say turn heat to max. Do you actually turn it on as in air blowing out the vents, or just set the nob to max heat and nothing more? I have an ‘09 Camry for reference. Thanks for this great video! So much easier to follow than the rest. Great job.
I just flushed my 2021 Acura, using the same funnel. Replaced new coolant, but I’m only getting heat, when I set the controls to high heat? I burped the upper and lower hoses, still no heat at anything but high? Any suggestions?
I kept wondering how much coolant goes on the top reservoir. It’s full! Although I did purge the system through the radiator on a 04 WRX and got it working. Still going to do a second purge today through the top reservoir just to be sure. Great video!
Got a p0128 for bad thermostat. Replaced that. Drained and bled the coolant. Got temp to normal. Cooling fan never came on, it actually never did before. Unless the AC is on. Assuming bad ECT? However, my check engine light keeps coming back with the same code. I really hope i didnt get a faulty thermostat. Temp gauge doesnt even go past 1/4-1/3 mark now. Lower radiator hose is almost always cool to the touch. I did a boiling test on the old thermostat and it opened up, so my guess is that the thermostat was never bad? Could it be the ECTs? Please help. Should i try to re-bleed the coolant?
Excellent video. I bought one of these kits a few days ago (hasn't arrived yet). I have a supercharged Lotus 7 that has front and rear radiators with lots of plumbing and long lengths of pipework and bends. Having a nightmare getting all the air out. Radiator to the rear is where the cap is and I have 2 bleed points at the front of the car. Ideally I need the front of the car raised to expose the air bubbles to the bleed points....and this kit seems perfect for that as it allows me to raise the front but also keep the fill point higher than the bleed point/s. But my question to you is this: You're certain it's ok to run up to temperature? Without the pressure cap on, the coolant can boil. With the device fitted, it's still basically being run without a pressure cap. You've not had any problems overheating whilst you're purging air bubbles?
Absolutely the best and to-the-point video out there for this procedure. Thank you. One quick question, would you advise on performing this with the car's front end up on jack stands? Would it make a difference?
Out of curiosity, can air pockets cause the STI to run much hotter than usual? It's not overheating, but running really hot and then it has issues starting until the car cools a bit. Along with the heating, when it gets hot the AC doesn't seem to work right, it just feels like a fan blowing not actually cool. I took it and got it diagnosed, but they said they couldn't find anything wrong. I have a 2017 STI.
I want to change out my radiator hoses with an aftermarket option from grimmspeed. I did however just replace the coolant like 500 miles ago, so I don’t think I need all new coolant again. Is the right idea for me to drain and reuse the still fresh coolant? If so, what is the best way to drain the coolant?
Wouldn’t it help to get even more access air bubbles out of the system if you jack the front of the car up to an incline to where the entry point of the coolant is the highest point above the system?
Hi, Thank you 1st.. great video. My 21 sti is running hot stock rad. So gonna replace the rad with a Mishimoto MMRAD-STI-08X one. How many quarts bottles of coolant do I need? And thank you again..
hey, on the ej255 with the radiator cap off should coolant fly out when starting the engine? does so at both fill locations, trying to figure out if my mechanic screwed up putting the heads back on.
Hi there. Just followed your steps to burp my sti coolant out after fitted an adapter between my upper radiator hose for my water temp gauge. When I went for a drive the too rich code p0172 came on and car drive like crap and exhaust smell bad. What did I do wrong?? Checked all no leak no hose inflated and engine temp is right in middle!! I did however left out my intake snorkel when I burped the car for a while my mistake…..
When you massage them houses do you just massage it when the car off and can you massage them while the car is running i massage the one by the thermostat and set up my driving dynamic to sport sharp
I burped the radiator fluid on the radiator cap and filled the reservoir up. The heater blows cold air when on heat and the engine over heats bad when driving down the road. I replaced the thermostat and rebleeded System still over heats I’m not sure if I put the pin on the top of the thermostat. I bought JDM EJ205 there’s no head gasket leak at all the oil isn’t milky and see no leaks. I put in new radiator and hoses and new ac condenser I’m not sure what to do I swapped both heater hoses to make sure I didn’t install it right but the car still over heats. I’m not sure if it’s bad water pump or thermostat or the radiator is blocked some ware or do you think the system has air trapped in it so it’s blowing cold air only and causing it to overheating should I buy this kit and do it this way I’m not sure if this will fix the problem or not?? I basically bought 2002 Subaru Wrx for $250 bucks it had no motor and it was wrecked I fixed it the dash was ripped out ECU was pulled but I basically bought JDM EJ205 from JDM WestCoast I installed JDM ECU and the iwire kit
One thing you forgot to cover is whether or not the car should be leveled? I would think to help the air bubbles come up the car should be slightly lifted from one side? Or am i wrong?
I changed my thermostat in my 2010 Forester XT and I still was some overheating. I watched your video and found out I fill the coolant very incorrectly. I re-did it after your video and no overheating and everything is perfect. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
