- This time around we're looking to see what characters don't belong, why they don't belong, and why we can't trust Capcom to make crossovers if Marvel isn't there, and even with marvel they don't bat a thousand.

There was A NUMBER OF REASONS why PlayStation All Stars’ roster wasn’t the best and why only one guest made sense.
Capcom and Kojima bullied them into using Donte and Raiden for example. It had NOTHING to do with Snake being in Smash. Big Daddy was due to a deal Sony had with 2K that never panned out. (BioShock on the vita)
They didn’t choose these because they were being stupid like most people like to think. They chose them because they didn’t have any choice in the matter. Another example is Square Enix didn’t play fair. Same with Activision when it came to Crash and Spyro.
Nintendo was having trouble getting Cloud back for Smash Ultimate when it was in development. Some newbie studio like Superbot had literally no chance getting anything from them. And that’s not including the cluster fuck legal issues with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest music.
PlayStation All Stars was doomed, roster wise, from the start.
And also, if I remember right, Insomniac forced them to make Cole and Evil Cole into separate characters.
So basically this newborn game development team was being pushed around by the big shot higher ups, and as a result they couldn't make the game they wanted to make. That is supremely uncool.
Fun fact about Mega Man in SFXT:
It was supposed to be a celebration of Mega Man as he had 3 games planned out: Universe, Legends 3 and Maverick Hunter. It was supposed to be a joke to go along with the Mega Man hype.
And then the games got cancelled, so suddenly the character meant to celebrate him became the salt in the wound
I find Guest Characters work best in things like Smash, Marvel VS Capcom or Injustice-kinda IE mascot fighters, where the appeal is all about getting to play out dream matches between well-known characters, so a bigger roster is a better roster.

Dropping the "Um, Ackshually" here because I can. Joker in Mortal Kombat DID at least have precedent past normal guest characterage - Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. Heck, he even references it in intros, along with encountering Kombat characters in Injustice. So he's actually kinda more woven into Mortal Kombat than a passing mention would indicate, right?

(Also, I will be eternally angry that the Dart DLC for Playstation All-Stars never made it in!)

The best description of Mortal Kombat's guest characters I've ever heard of is "It's Smash Bros but your boomer dad picked the roster by looking at his movie collection".
So we not gonna talk about how banjo was one of the biggest inclusions for smash it was a dead series that they revived or heck even steve he broke the internet and is such a random character

I kinda wish you talked about SoulCalibur a little more cuz the SoulCalibur guests are interesting.
I was surprised how little it was covered. I mean, this is a game that took a guest character (Yoshitmitsu) and turned him into a staple character with detailed lore developed for him.
Oh and uh, Puzzle and Dragons made an entire GAME in the Mario universe, where every gacha character was a Mario enemy/character. So Smash Bros, again.
Always so excited to see an upload from you and I love me some fighting games. I had no idea about some of this stuff - I had somehow literally never seen Barney in fighting game before - and the conspiracy theorist style rabbit hole at the end was genuinely impressive and full of so much stuff I didn't know LOL. Another great video!
Damn shame PSAS flopped flat onto its face, because it has some of the funniest character interactions I've ever seen in my life.
The Little Sister interacting with Sackboy, Heihachi speaking Japanese in the English version for no discernable reason and for some reason being able to understand the little cat guys' noises as if he can also see the subtitles, Parappa saying he doesn't think Chop Chop Master Onion is trying to take over the world "... yet.", Kratos not giving a fuck about Sweet Tooth's ice cream, Sir Daniel. Just, Sir Daniel. Everything about him.
I am first watching this after Sora being announced as the last Smash Ultimate character...definitely came full circle, now that Snake can CQC Sora to sleep my life is complete
Activision wasn't even involved with PSABR yet it still managed to shit it up by refusing to license them Crash , Spyro, and any other characters they were approached for
Fist of the North Star itself also recently crossed over with a certain blue hedgehog, celebrating the latter's thirtieth anniversary. That same blue hedgehog also crossed over with the Shin Megami Tensei series (The series that Persona was originally a part of) for the same reason.

Hey man, Byleth may have been on the lower end of reception but they have significantly grown on people over time since thier pretty common in online play whereas Banjo,absolutely the HYPED pick from public consciousness.....you rarely ever see one anymore. Goes to show that hype ISN'T everything!
Banjo was one of the most requested Smash characters (for Ultimate, at very least) and I hardly hear any talk about him now that he’s in, it’s really strange

One of the main reasons why PlayStation All Stars' roster sucked so much was because they had to make due with what they had. No companies wanted to give up their characters. And the ones who did (excluding the ones who actually made it into the game) asked for way too much in return like Activision and Crash

I'm honestly shocked you made a joke about a Microsoft fighting game roster, brought up Gears of War, and *still* didn't talk about the Killer Instinct reboot that had General Raam from Gears of War, Rash from Battletoads, and The Arbiter from Halo
Well...now that Microsoft owns Bethesda....they can have their own all-stars game ^^ hell they even have GEARS OF WAR with them. I'd gladly see them make an FPS all-stars game....unlike Quake champions...even though Blazckowicz in there appears with doomslayer...

Apparently there's an unwritten rule that a fighter cannot co-exist between Playstation All-Stars and Smash Bros. Smash got Snake, All-Stars got Raiden. Smash got Kazuya, All-Stars got a sensible choice. Neither got Crash, I pray to god Smash gets Crash.

Personally I do think all stars was rather good. The problem was indeed the cast, the fact you had to pay for online just for this game, the lack of a proper world, and admittedly the balancing was a total nightmare. Some fighters could ensure they could wipe the board clean with a level 2 move while some couldn't even get a single kill with a level 3 if they were unlucky.
