As someone that just spent an unhealthy amount of time studying and playing the original space invaders in order to make a clone for one of my classes this feels aimed at me.
At least most people remember Space Invaders for what it was. An inspiration of the gaming landscape rather than the game that felt more tone deaf than looking at the 2 stages Pac-Man got in Smash 4 and picking the one that isn't the entire reason Pac-Man became such a recognized figure in gaming in the first place for Ultimate.......I'm not sure how this became a rant on Pac Land, it just kinda happened.
Pac-Land as a game is actually pretty fun, it still shouldn’t have been what got the stage representation in Smash though. I love Pac-Land but I wouldn’t ever say it should be in Smash more than the maze should
Man, Space Raiders was my JAM when I was young. I didn't even register it was supposed to be a Space Invaders adaptation though, and I remember being shocked when I realized everyone online thought the game sucked lmao
I wonder what the edgy version of Bumbles McFumbles is..I like Bickle McPickles, my original OC who's Bumbles. He's got cool skull WoW as big as my head, a rad katana, he uses pic of guns for transition frames, has darker takes on their collective of videos about my autistic special interests when I was a pre teen, and can inflate ppl with their brain.
Well, good thing he already has 35k subscribers. Plus the fact that his highest viewed video is about 8.8x bigger than his subscriber count, despite being released 2 weeks ago (the tf2 video.)
This video unlocked a memory of me playing this version of space invaders on the psp, it was a heavily stylized version of the game almost reminding me of Pac-Man championship edition, i spent a lot of hours on it but the name escapes me…
"Attack of the Lunar Looneys" seems like some weird crossover between Space Invaders and Twinbee. Like just look at the pineapple enemies and the arms on the ships and TELL ME this isn't Twinbee.
This is one of those games where someone will mention it and I’ll be all like “Oh yeah, I played that game once, I think,” and then go back to forgetting it.
To answer your question, Space Raiders was still developed by Taito. Mastiff only published the game in North America. Same goes for Fight Crab... kinda. It was developed by Calappa Games, and was published by PLAYISM...except for the Switch version, which was published by Mastiff.
you forgot to mention space invaders on the N64. It's pretty good i grew up playing it its weirdly enough darker, but not edgy. very timesplitters 2 robot factory if you catch my drift.
While E.T. was one of the two main offenders, Atari Pac Man was right along side it making people really mad at video games for a while, and caused the crash
Having played Space Invaders Extreme on my PSP (Even with local multiplayer!) I can safely say that that version of the game can carry the franchise for a long while especially if there are a lot of other modes in the home console versions.
Fun Fact: The game to go super fast the entire time but thanks to having to many enemies on the screen that the game couldn’t handle it. A staple of the game and what gave the game personality was a coding error
You know, despite the terrible story dialogue, it wouldve been an great space invader installment if they just remove the combo meter and make the dodge mechanic actually useful.
Out of all the Space Invader variants these days, Extreme 1 and 2 are amongst the best, since they stayed consistent, but gave it a spice in the form of a Tetsuya Mizuguchi inspired rhythm twist. Infinity Gene is also great because it adds more modern vertical shmup gameplay and an evolution mechanic
Idk of you'll see this, but fun fact: There's a street artist named Space Invader who put pixel pieces of space invaders in spots in the city. Street art is fun.
The one on the DS [not the port the one with story mode AND a port] had interesting gimicks, Such as a mirror fight, a "simon says" where you kill the colored enemy or die, and even bosses that were just enlarged enemies but every pixel was a target! (The moving pixels are a tricky target)
Not gonna lie, I thought it was gonna be the Space Invaders published by Activision for PS1, and N64 lol. But still it was a really funny and interesting video given that I’ve never heard of Space Raiders
Some constructive criticism to a few points: I think justin's character power is meant to be useful because it's a piercing shot, but your point about grenades is accurate, lol. You usually only see it against bosses for the extra damage. Speaking of damage, since you can potentially hold like 8+ grenades at once, 1 killing an entire horde of beefier enemies would actually be kind of overpowered, no? One grenade at least severely damaging them is a nice trade in comparison. I also think you picked a bad character for your experience; mrs "we need a female protagonist" has a longer range dodge roll that doesn't knock away horizontal enemies as well. I think justin's smol roll is because he punts back enemies actually hit by it like a football player shoulder checking an infant. Her character special is also a grenade on heroin; DoT effect and enemy bullet clear over it's effect. For the low price of 2 grenades she can make a temporary opening to do whatever the fuck you want, great for reversing enemy momentum. I haven't played the black guy but I'm sure he's got at least 1 thing different about him other than skin tone. Also, you didn't talk about the alternative game modes or the fact the games has multiplayer, it's pretty fun and survival mode's "no continues" encourages understanding how to deal with every enemy. Most enemies have a different knock-down animation for when they're dead or just getting back up, and some weaker enemies have ZERO chance to get back up (think the little dorito ships in act 1). For a game cube + ps2 game i think the graphics could be better, yeah, but it's not bad for what it is. Besides, you'd be playing motherfucking space invades for the gameplay and not the graphics. Getting a high combo is kinda oof against the regular enemies, but against bosses it's actually quite easy to get even a 50 combo if you can dodge appropriately, especially with strategic use of specials and/or grenades. Can you please make a follow-up video addressing some of this stuff? I'm okay if you cite my arguments, just leave my name out (anonymous vibechecking amirite lads)
The deal with Mastiff is that they are a publisher, not a Developer. Looking on their website I'm seeing games developed by Falcom(Gurumin) and NIS(La Purcelle) there and they only Published the Switch version of Fight Crab. My Guess is that Taito didn't have faith in Space Raiders and pawned it off on a small Independent publsiher. BTW I'm pretty sure it's Justin no Christian, at least that's what GDQ called him when the game was played on their Awfully Silly block recently.
@@bumblesmcfumbles fair enough, but I can tell you for sure that you really don’t need a ton of Knowledge of the base series to understand Luna Nights. In fact, it’s basically just Sotn with a splash of Touhou paint on it.

I was surprised to hear you mention Touhou but devastated that I have to be the asshole who corrects you on a minor inaccuracy. (Sorry dude, it's my destiny to be a prick.) Touhou enemies don't die in one hit, in fact how many hits they take can vary wildly even within the same stage. The only real ways to know are a rough association with how much shit they throw at you and muscle memory from previous playthroughs.
To answer you, yes, mastiff did develop both fight crab and space invaders :l
That really is quite the glowup
They’ll likely do it again with the console version of fight crab 2 once it exits early access
“Get better prayers.”
This line was a good line because it was funny.
I never would’ve guessed.

My favorite arcade game, bubble bobble, also by taito, has two 2nd entries bubble bobble 2 and part 2, I guess it’s some fetish of the taito ceo

Bumbles back here again, making entertaining content! Woohoo!
Nah the best "from the" out there is "from the producers who SAW shrek" which I just learned has 3 videogame adaptations for some godforsaken reason.
Also cmon ps2 is a nice aesthetic in of itself. I love videogames that look like videogame-ass videogames.
We need Space Invaders Effect like they did with Tetris. Space Invaders, but with aesthetic.
