Kampung durian are named as such that they are mixed or unknown variety. The taste varies greatly from tree to tree, location and weather pattern. They are also invariably cheaper and popular with durian aficionados due to the different and variable taste.

You actually went to different countries and ate a lot of fruit.
In the future, you may want to try batoning. So what you do is you can carefully place your blade where you want it, and then give it a good tap on the blades spine with something like a rubber mallet or something of wood. Basically anything that won't damage your knife. It's a lot more accurate than trying to whack the blade where you want it. For most things it doesn't really matter, but if you wanted to be surgical, it's a helpful technique.

@LyLyMongeon Yes, there are plenty enough in Montreal 😁! Every summer they're sold at Asian specialty grocery stores. And some T&T carries frozen ones in freezers all year around. But in Montreal, it is quite difficult to find a store that sells the fresh exported Durians (never been frozen). Because they come & go so quickly! You gotta know someone, especially in the Vietnamese community, to find out which store sells fresh Durian. Then, they will tell you the date of the next shipment. Expensive getting these fresh ones though. They are fresh from Malaysia or Thailand, straight to Canada in under 24 hrs. Not as expensive as their weight in gold 😂 but it's still quite steep getting one of the exported fresh. The Frozen ones are good, in Vancouver BC, the price for previously frozen Durians are around $6.99 a lb. And less if it's still frozen solid in a freezer.

Before you go into trying a fruit, you always give a lot of very thorough background information. I am wondering what your research process is for trying fruit? Yessss Malaysian durian ftw!! For anyone wondering, if it tastes crunchy its not ripe and you should change the fruit. The best tasting ones are soft, bitter, and sweet.
I don't eat much fruit, but as a kid i was fascinated with all the colours and shapes and variety of different fruits, and this channel takes me right back to those times.
I just tried this D101 today. I did notice the tartness which was surprising. But what really surprised me was a strong aromatic coffee/burnt sugar scent that filled my head. I loved it!
I Love Durian. It is very Sweet Creamy texture. They Have a Slight vinegarlike smell but taste like a cross between garlic and onion but they are delicious. People complain that they smell bad...Honestly I Do Not Get That at All. The Fruit is unique and delicious. And Yes the outside is dangerous and very spiky sharp. So take great caution. Also I heard not to eat Durian With alcoholic beverages because the fruit suppresses the enzyme that metabolizes alcohol.
Woah, you changed your profile lol! I thought a wannabe of you had just somehow managed to get into my recommendation. I wouldn't have watched it, but I looked at the name and realised, haha
Heh, even the frozen trays vary a lot. Sometimes they are more vegetal and green, sometimes super ripe, sometimes more oniony, sometimes more custardy. Even within frozen monthong there is a ton of variation based on ripeness. I have long disagreed with Jared on the frozen mass market monthong, at least in the lobe/tray form. It really depends on who packed it and the quality of what they packed. The kind in the hard plastic box is generally the best option for frozen mass market, IMO, but even then, it is kind of a lottery whether you get "just good enough" or "excellent".
Man I'd love to hang out with you and try some strange fruits! I live in Florida, if you're ever around central Florida and have time man let's get some fruit!
These two durian varieties are from Northern Johor of Malaysia, namely Tangkak and Segamat. I ate both of them last year because my home is in this place. The top rated durian in Malaysia is D197 Musang King and D200 Black thorn.
I used to go to a regular event in Calgary that for years was held a couple blocks from a large Asian supermarket. Once I could have bought a whole frozen durian for CDN$0.19 a pound (or was it a kg?) because they had too many, but... no. Bought a small package of frozen durian innards that was very disappointing in flavor if adequately smelly.
I would really love an additional bitterness scale for fruits that have this note. With one being something innocent like a strawberry, three a blackberry, six a grapefruit and nine a bitter almond seed or something? Dunno what a ten is. Would be a perfect addition to give a metric for that too. Thanks for the video. There is no chance to ever get my hands on those but it is fascinating nevertheless.
Most people who had pieces of durian fall on their floor would be annoyed that the durian is messing up the floor. He is annoyed that his floor messed up the fallen durian.
