Life is like a box of Durian! This sounds like a Christmas present for a connoisseur by a connoisseur.
She's so passionate about durian that it makes us want to support her. You can tell from the packaging, descriptions, etc... That she is more about spreading her passion than anything else.
Would have given it a go if the quarantine law weren't so tight in Western Australia. Might as well travel directly to south East Asia ...
Hey, Bali is pretty near
I hope Lindsay and her company do very well. Is such a great idea, and great name. Year of the durian.
$70 seems very reasonable. I'm actually surprised because I know how expensive shipping can be! I do plan to try this box! Maybe in the new year as a treat to myself :) thanks for sharing!
I just put my order through! It was $114 after tax, it's probably super dependant on your location. I'm really excited to try it ☺️
Probably not the best idea to eat in a warm, closed room. Does the apartment still smell of durian now?
Only a little bit probably because it was cold. :)
I had a heart attack when I saw the prices of all the fruits, if only I had a job, lol.
That's so fascinating that she actually test them herself before sending it, I find the quality of fruit to be quite low in general, especially exported fruit, so great job there.
I've only had frozen packaged durian from asian stores where I live (but I have 2 stores just like 50 meters away, I guess the universe wanted me to have durian :-D) and I've had both above avarage and bad durian from there. They also sold fresh durian when in season and I found it to be way too unripe for my taste, the frozen one was usually much better because it was picked much more ripe.
There’s a reason they call it THE KING OF FRUIT.
I thought it was gross when I first had it in Vietnam, but afterwards I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Best I’ve ever had was in western Sumatra, there was an entire street of durian, different guys with huge piles of them. That street was BUMPIN, tons of people riding up on scooters or sitting in plastic chairs eating right there. It was pure funky heaven.
Living in Singapore at the moment. Was in the Chinatown market area on the weekend and thought it was time to have some durian, so I did. I like durian. It's sweet, or can be. It's got a completely unique flavor, or rather, flavors and it's hard to get the smell out of your beard. When it's good it's very good, but when it's bad - well... ya... baked trash, gym socks and burnt onions etc. FUN!
PS. It's always amusing - people stare at me while I'm enjoying the durian. There's this look of wonder bordering on disbelief in the faces of some onlookers. :)
Mail Order Durian sounds like the name of a college band. Bro you going to the M.O.D. show next weekend "?
Run Run Shaw haha yes!
Fuuuuck that is a good band name, I shouoda called my new band that
There was an old hardcore band called Methods Of Destruction back in the 80's/90's, which mostly went by MOD.
@@peachmelba1000 Oh shit, is any of their stuff here on the tube?
I use to play bass for Mail Order Durian.
Just ordered this same box! I've been watching your videos forever and finally decided to help out these people you support. I'm so excited!
i wanna like durian so much bc i love eggy and custardy. the only stuff i ever tried was frozen from the asian market and, yea it was disgusting. never been anywhere to try it fresh but i really wanna order this now.. maybe after the holidays i will try it!
I reeaally enjoy your videos for some odd reason
MrGuidoune Jared is the odd reason why we enjoy the videos!
Jared's style is unpretentious, and doesn't involve ANY clickbait. His channel is an example of what YT should really be all about.
Yeah I payed $40 for a frozen durian at an Asian market. $70 dollars for high quality durians doesn’t sound that bad. Still not sure I wanna try it again though for the time being.
There is a saying roughly translated: "If you don't like durian, try another durian"
Both that every durian is different and the taste for it is acquired.
This was a great one. Thank you to all who were involved!
Here in NZ we only get frozen Durian and I love it. Can't wait to try a fresh one :)
This is why I love living in the tropics. Getting all sorts of fruits fresh. The only bummer is the lack of temperate nuts and berries which I also love.
Man I just tried jack fruit for the first time and it was amazing. So sweet and tasty. I like the texture and flavour. I think I could try durian one day. I just don't want frozen
Some people here in Singapore chill durians in the fridge before eating. Chilling it makes it better IMHO.
Duyaya is my favorite of these 3. Eating fresh at the farm takes it to a whole nother level though. That's when you get the number numbing
My first frozen durian was a mornthong and I selected it very carefully, I was told to look for one that smelled like fresh paint. The taste was amazing on the very first one, like the best coffee liqueur pudding imaginable. My family did not like the smell, and one section of it actually tasted bad, but the other sections all tasted amazing. I wound up getting 6 more Over a few weeks, unfortunately 2 were bad, and one was underripe and I took those back. The 3 good ones though were outstanding and I shared some with coworkers who actually liked them pretty universally. Since then I haven’t gotten more because they are very expensive and I only pick good ones 50% of the time. I’m actually pretty good at picking cherimoyas which are similarly priced and more reliably good though not as good as a great durian mostly, though I have had some exceptional cherimoyas that are on par with the best durian I had
I just ordered my own box from year of the durian! I can’t wait til Thursday! Thanks for this video, Jared, I didn’t know Lindsey was doing that!
#MerryChristmasToMe
Hey, friend! Can't you regulate the heat that's coming into your apartment?? I would NOT like living in NYC. I live in a double-wide "manufactured home" (OK, a trailer then) in the beautiful Ozark mountains of Arkansas and I can have it as cool or warm as I want it here. I bless you and wish you well. I enjoy your videos very much.
Now I'm craving durian. Darn shame it's impossible to find here.
I can't stand eating durian because of the strong smell, but I can't stop eating those durian candies. There's just too tasty.
You had me at durian. 💯😋
Yesss i follow this lady on instagram and newsletter.
Exactly how many days was the shipment?
Even when you describe the durian that you really love I don't think that I would like the flavor combinations you detect but I suppose if I ever have an opportunity to try durian I will. I'm adventurous in what I'll try to eat and drink. I love sulphured molasses so I might like the sulfur flavor. i don't mind onions I despise egg custard, I love caramel, I love most berries. There probably is a durian out there for me! Lol love your videos, thank you for doing what you do!
My experience with supermarket durian was one of creaminess, onion, melon, popcorn and maybe a hint of garlic. It wasn't my thing but I didn't absolutely hate it, either, and I don't think that a taste for egg custard is necessary. I'd definitely recommend trying it.
I had durian that was frozen whole from an Asian grocery store. I actually liked both the taste and the smell right off. The one I had tasted like caramel and ice cream mixed with onions. Sounds weird, but I was into it.
Awesome. I'd love to try them, but $70 + shipping is a bit intimidating.
Cheaper than Miami Fruit company lmao. But yeah, I’m really curious what durian tastes like so I might buy it
To cushion the blow a little bit, I live in southeast Asia and the price (after conversion) is not too far off, even though it's local here
Hey Jared, this is off topic but you should try the new Cosmic Apple.
Supposedly it lasts a year in the fridge.
It tastes sweet and tart like a honeycrisp, with the same crisp, refreshing bite. It reminds me of a combination of Oppal and the aforementioned Honeycrisp. Oppals are my favorite apple.
I think it's also low in polyphenol oxidase so doesn't brown when you cut it, but I'm not 100%, I suspect that that's why it lasts so long. This is why Oppals don't brown after cutting, either.
If you can't find them, I'll send you a couple since they are sold out here. Just keep me posted.
They have premium export grade from Malaysia using liquid nitrogen flash freeze now. It is the next best thing to tasting a premium durian in south east Asia if you can afford the price and shipping.
I have to try these once, Jared,
never ate durian.
Your Lukak video made me curious some time ago
You should do that. Durian smells strongly of rotten onions, but it tastes like creamy egg custard.
If you purchase that try freezing some of it. The smell would be like butane once frozen, but it'll increase the sweet flavor profile and decreases the other ones. And, it's like eating ice cream too since the frozen one tastes entirely different when not frozen.
70 for the box and 40 for shipping in the USA is an awesome price in my opinion. A lot of work went into this.
I love durian. Had a great experience the first time I had it but I ate too much and my face turned really red, heart elevated, and I felt drunk. Much like having too many energy drinks at once. I keep the amount I eat now at 2. Not everyone will have my reaction. I tend to be very sensitive to stimulants i.e. caffeine etc...
interesting, I wonder what in durian is giving you that reaction
@@WeirdExplorer no idea. I love them though.
Durian that ripe on tree sometimes fermented a lil bit and have trace of alcohol
I want to try this tho
Decades ago I placed the seed from a store bought, frozen durian in soil. To my surprise it germinated and I had a small durian tree growing indoors. Unfortunately I forgot to water it during a move so it subsequently died. The bark had a deep red color. I've tried germinating durian seed many times since then but had no luck. My guess is that durians are irradiated before coming to America and the seed I was able to germinate was a lucky survivor. I wish I had seen your video earlier so I can tell you to try germinating the seeds that you got. Maybe next time you get fresh durian, save the seed and try germinating it.
The problems is, you need to wait for 15-20 years for the tree to bear any fruit.
And they can get pretty big
I'm definitely going to order some. I love making durian shakes for breaky.
Is it a good shake fruit? What goes good with it? I make mango/papya/straw shake every morning I'd love to try it but I'd want more than one fruit to match it with
@@madscientistshusta Yeah it makes a wonderful shake fruit and it goes great with lots of other fruits since its so rich and fatty. Although I do make it with just durian a lot too. but when I do add other fruit I usually make mine with bananas. Or fresh pineapple as well. You can used canned pineapple but it doesn't taste as good. So how I make mine is pretty simple just lots of durian, a cup of milk (and I use all kinds of milks whatever I have on hand, it could be almond, soy, cow or goats) a cup of crushed ice, and then blend until smooth. Sometimes if the fruits aren't that sweet I'll add a teaspoon of simple syrup, but that's to needed most of the time as I like to use over ripe bananas and those are usually super sweet.
Yummy yum yummy
I have learned so! Much! Ty
I got turned on to your videos by watching year of the durian. It's cool to hear that you guys are friends.
$70 isn't that bad considering how expensive durians are in the US. I've seen a small whole king durian that was going to cost me $70 at the Asian market.
I've never had durian but now I'm hungry for them
Bready as in yeasty? oniony, garbagey, cheesey, eggy, and a fruit? I will sit this one out lol.
Possibly I guess, but I don't think I should fool with it, I fell asleep watching this video and had the strangest dream I have had in awhile. I was married to Jared 😂and he was a romantic devil 😂 he doesn't as read that kind over the videos to me, sensitive yes but romantic I am not sure, anyway he called and told me he had bought me an outfit to wear on a fancy evening out and I didn't want to wait to see it, so I went to his work where it was and everything was nice and normal a lot of smiles were exchanged and then that's when the dream turned and some bad guys entered and we all had to get away, he and I got separated in the crowd of people trying to exit the building. It was plain weird and dramatic. Now all of that was without Durian, imagine what I would dream if I had a morsel of the spikey fruit 😂 I am good.
That second one looked like the best mango ever. My god, wow!
Hi! i m searching for Casana (Solanum cajanumensis) seeds or (even better) a live seedling. Can i buy from you?
i wanna try it sooo bad, it seems so interesting
Came back to this because i finally tried the arancillo. it was really caramelly, but it did not numb my mouth sadly
Hey what's the name of the book you have displayed in the intro?
I first tried the cheap frozen durian and loved it. So obviously there was no hope for me
U sir may retain your Durian card! nice video
I've ordered worse smelling things in the mail
I wouldn't say that they smelt "worse" but I was quite impressed that a padded envelope, 2 layers of bubble wrap AND vacuum packing still couldn't contain the smell of dried Ghost Peppers.
WEED
thanks bitcoin
Do they ship to Canada Ontario
Sigh... I guess I need to make myself try durian again. I started the same way as you, with frozen store durian, and was so utterly repulsed by the taste that I've never tried it again. The taste was so bad like someone was pranking me, like, "Ha ha, you actually put that in your mouth! Tricked you into thinking that it was actually something you're supposed to eat!"
I feel lucky. I tried frozen durian first, and it was delicious as long as you didn't heat it up (I made chocolate dipped durian and the pieces that hadn't been completely frozen when they went into the melted chocolate got too heated up and instead of tasting like delicious custard afterwards tasted like sugary rotting onion...
Good job on Lindsay!
After you described three different durians(or when she did, technically), I, somehow, suddenly forgot what durian tastes like😐😅😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I wonder if the more egg oniony flavored durian would make a good chip dip XD
No! In spite of it's rank odor, it has a sweet dessert taste.
maybe not,but in some asian coutries, durian is used as condiment and dipping sauce.its called sambal tempoyak.its has savoury/spicy taste
@David Thomas you could substitute it with fresh durian, the basic recipes is durian flesh mixed with some salt, ground up chillies, and some sugar.it goes well with fried fish, cucumber and rice.
Now I'm one step closer to good quality, convenient durian 👐
Interesting!
I would like to try this but after jackfruit I'm worried about having an allergy. Does the stem create latex like with jackfruit?
I haven't noticed latex on durio species. If there is some, it's nowhere near as much as jackfruit.
@@WeirdExplorer Thanks for telling me.
Duyaya variety is called "golden pillow" in Hong Kong at HKD$600 (USD$100) a kilo >_
I've never tried Durian. I have read so many bad descriptions it put me off, people have mentioned rotting meat, turpentine, and now you mention onions. I'm still not convinced I should try it.
It's so delicious... But if you can't handle the funky smell kinda hard to eat hehehe...
Looks good making me hungry I might order sum
I love the durian candies and ice cream of the Philippines, my home country.
I think durian looks impressive just the size and over all shape of the fruit and tree looks nice to
Have you tried lemonade berry or snowberry?
I would challenge you to try various frozen durians available domestically again. I've had quite a lot of frozen durian and they vary quite a lot in ripeness and quality. Some are pretty unripe, others are very ripe, even in the same brand or same package sometimes. Of course there is not the kind of variety available as something like this box, but I think maybe you got unlucky with your Asian store grocery durian or had a poor brand. The kind in plastic boxes I've had better luck than the ones in bags. Anyway, could make a video out of it at least, even if you wind up still hating them all.
Do you not have windows?
I bet your neighbors loved this fruit the most.
get that shipped and only cost 70$ is cheap..
in indonesia, when you hit the ''tai babi'' / pork dung durian, it cost 25$ a fruit, which only contain few glorious durian meat haha
enjoy anyway!
I've always wanted to try it but I'm scared to and it's not available unless like this ($$$).
usually if I buy one it's for a party, less commitment for a group of friends to each pitch in a few bucks to try it
You can boil cook the seeds and eat them.
I made a video on that. Really interesting to try: ruclips.net/video/bykk_NHOkhg/видео.html
Can you find names of fruits from your videos
Durian is certainly heaty, definitely get a soar throat after eating too much, a nice combination would be to eat mangosteen after. Kings and Queens of fruit.
I was so excited that I was able to find fresh durian at a local Asian market here in San Diego (and paid an arm and a leg for it). I’m an adventurous fruit eater and eggy custards are my favorite thing in the world so I thought I hit the jackpot! It was SO AWFUL. It was the most potent gasoline and onion flavor I could even imagine! It smelled great before I cut into it but as soon as oxygen hit the flesh it was like a stink bomb went off. I tried so hard to power through a couple of bites but even I had to admit it was the worst thing I’d ever tasted. Maybe it was a bad one... I don’t know but goddamn it was a nightmare of smells and the flavor lingered for over an hour in my mouth. If I’m ever in a place where it’s grow locally I’ll give it one more shot, but i’m starting to think it’s one of those “cilantro” type things where certain people just can’t taste the terribleness that the rest of us can!
Jen Thompson thats awful. Sidenote...you dont like the taste of cilantro? Not sure if thats what u were getting at
jrpapi5 Sorry I should have been clearer about that- apparently some people have a genetic component that makes cilantro taste soapy and awful to them, while most of the population taste the the typical, palatable “herby-ness” that it’s know for. It’s just a total difference in how their taste buds perceive the flavor which explains why some people love it and some absolutely can’t stand it! In my mind durian must have a similar component because, unless I’ve always gotten bad durian, I can’t wrap my mind around how anyone would enjoy it! Haha.
@@AlbinoAxolotl
I'm in that cilantro group! The tiniest bit in salsa tastes like the bowl was not rinsed when washed! Also, I have no problem with hot peppers, but ginger sets me on fire (coming AND going)! Wierd, huh?
That explains all the confused southeast Asians in negative durian taste tests. We can probably only get the bad cheap ones here in the west
Meme Brother No no I’m Vietnamese American and when I visited my family they wanted me to try durian AND I HATE IT LMAO
When you say funk do you mean like a Funkadelic P-Funk funk? 😆😆😆🍈I gotta try Durian fruit
This would be great for like a night in with a group of friends.
Have you noticed the euphoric high from durians ?
I haven't. They are very tasty though. :)
@@WeirdExplorer it must be only certain ones, i have had 2 really good ones out of 10 fairly ordinary ones.
Durian is so good ...! Worth the off putting scent ...
I've only ever had frozen durian from Asian supermarkets. Both times, both varieties I only got an onion taste, one day I might get fresh
I also live in the city(Bronx near Yonkers) and my building is also abt 400 degrees!! Its basically just steam and i hate it and i have to keep my windows cracked open all winter 😡
You took a very generous glop on your first bite!
can the radiator make it cold? why make a noise? lol i just moved into an apartment in British Colombia. here its a good temp so not much need for much heat at all but its an older building and has water heaters which are cold when its off but i heard water ones can stay hot but maybe thats just radiator? does your radiator dry up the air cuz i feel for that man my air was so dry when i moved in cuz the heater was broken and stuck on full so i was getting bloody nose and sadness of the skin and soul, i need the cold man that must sucks i hate not having control of the heater and especially when it messes with the air quality idk what its like in NY but i have been to halifax and some heat is necessary for sure this time of year and halifax seems to precipitate the same as Victoria even tho Victoria is a rainforest it doesnt rain too much actually.......also DURIAN DURIAN is a good band... wait---
I have to keep my windows open through most of the winter. It's crazy.
I have IBS and sugars, especially fruit sugars, give me horrible stomach trouble. But god... I'm missing so much :(
Greetings dear !
Durian is so delicious... durian porridge delicious
You did THIS for us??!! Let us know how to go about getting durian without going to H Mart (Asian store) nor going to Malaysia or anywhere else? Me looooooove you!!! Get Musang King next time. I hate Monthong. Thanks for this! 😁
Try honeysuckle berries
Thank you that was 70 $ well spent. Also, now i know not to buy the frozen ones .
I never understood people who thought durian smelled like garbage or socks. It's a bit off smelling but basically like pudding otherwise.
To me cantalope smells exactly like a trash dump. I was in my fifties before I could eat any of it at all. I can eat it now in order not to be rude but detest the aroma. I've never met anyone else that thinks it smells like garbage but it really does to me, all of it. It was one of my family's favorite fruits and my grandfather used to grow several varieties and my mother was always buying them. I would have to take the rinds out and put them in the trash can because they made the kitchen smell so terrible if they were in the kitchen trash.
Hanna Kin maybe it’s one of those genetic things like people who think cilantro tastes bad
@@hannakinn Durian, to me, just smells like gone of cantaloupe. I don't hate the smell of the melon, myself, but I suspect that you'd have an awful time with durian.
@@spicefreak4726 thank you for letting me know that. I think I'll avoid durian unless I can try it free somewhere some time.
@@appa609 It could be. I love cilantro but my friend thinks it taste like soap. When we have Mexican food I giggle everytime she says eww soapy cilantro while eating. I'm glad I love it, definitely does not taste like soap to me.
7:30, Hey Jared it seems you are having a pretty rough day on your t-shirt. No big deal, only pointing that.
I tea stained that shirt and the corners got more saturated. I'm not THAT sweaty from my hot apartment. :)
Durian is what I imagine eating a fart would be like.
😂
What do you know Ang Moh loved durian
I tried a durian for the first time yesterday and finished eating it this morning with my wife
Yuck! The horrific garbage smell aside, the taste wasn't sweet at all. It just tasted like a soggy onion. That's it. I hate onions so I hated it.

Had durian once. The fruit wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Had the candy too. It was what I thought the fruit would be like, awful.
