Thanks!
perhaps you could try tullip sprouts sometime. Its a relative of onions and garlic, and people ate them in the netherlands during the hunger winter. they supposedly thaste like a sweeter more planty onion and iv thought about trying them myself
All the kumquats need to be cross with a yustu leamon
Can you drink and describe mimosa tree flower tea

this is a ten... 🤷♀️

it’s like that one Sonic meme
I love that he has tried so many fruits that he blanks on the name of an orange.
This man claims this is NOT a cooking channel but is steady in the kitch. This is like a cold remedy in some places.
I love how he just pulls that gigantic pomelo out of nowhere everytime he says pomelo 🤣
I love all those beat-up, rough looking citrus fruits. For some reason I find them very gorgeous, and they're usually super fragrant.
I want to state a fact... the creator is the reason I have so many fruits in my kitchen... literally I have eleven fruits
I wish good health, happiness and all the best to you and yours!
Man, having experienced the heavenly smell of the trifoliate orange I'm supposed to only imagine what this is like? ... It's 2021, where's my olfactory TV?
Too many compounds. You can probably make a citrus specific one.
olfactory tv would go out of buisness with all the ppl loosing smell these days 😂
I used to get Yuja tea from a coffe shop next to my work often when I was in Korea, I miss it. I wish we had Yuja/yuzu flavoured stuff in the UK, I prefer it to lemon or lime.
The jarred stuff is worth picking up :)
IS THAT WHAT THAT'S CALLED? my mom has told me for the longest time that that tea is made with the pomelo... i guess its all the same word in chinese
Oh boy citrus fruits are such a rabbit hole...
It just keeps going and going. Its an interesting one though!
professional as always
I put marmalade in my coffee sometimes and it's lovely
As someone who lives in Japan, I think I take the abundance of yuzu in this country for granted. I was surprised when you said they are hard to find (but only for a split second). And then I remembered that I never tried them when I was in the US, so it makes sense. Lol
This is my favorite channel to escape this mundane world. I hope you never stop making videos.
this makes me kind of want to make a pomelocha - I've become *horribly* addicted to pomelos for being just the right level of bitter and sweet for me.
Pomelo is so delicious, but nearly impossible to find most of the year in the US (and costs $3 each when you can find it). I need a pomelo tree.
@@cristiaolson7327 that's a whole entire mood
I’m digging the addition of relaxing background music!
I’ll admit, I actually go to sleep watching your vids before bed. In a good way though! It’s the perfect mix of interesting and relaxing.
Instead of a bedtime story, I do bedtime fruit reviews
This, Sidecar Stories, and Royalty Soaps are my go to channels to relax.
Im tripping I don't hear anything
I do bedtime fruit reviews too! 10pm here. Fruit reviewer time.
I like to watch Luke Towan at bedtime; he's like an Aussie version of Bob Ross but instead of painting, he makes dioramas.
@@jeffreym68 I love RS. Not only is it super relaxing and magical to watch the soap being made, especially the emulsification and the delicious looking soap frosting that makes my mouth water 😍😍😍 , but the Duchess of Suds has such an amazing uplifting sweet fun sparkling personality and she always cheers me up. Bless her. 🙏🏻😭
EmmyMadeInJapan is another great channel, and as weird as it might sound, I listen to a lot of true crime channels to relax. I'm trying to think of other channels, I'll post them here if I remember. Please do the same ? I'm always l looking for new content and appreciate any recommendations.
I wish we had half of these citrus varieties in the uk. Very interesting stuff.
before i go to bed i watch youtube and i always save your video for last because the music at the end makes me feel super calm and happy since it reminds me of when I first got into watching your videos earlier on in quarantine like when it was sunny and calm in the house. thank you so much for the content, it actually relaxes me a ton
The whole crossbreeding of citrus just blows my mind. So many different combinations.
I love citrus, and used to eat lemons as a kid. Wish I'd known their range earlier in life.
meyer lemons are sweet!
I just realized yesterday that yuzu is 柚子 which in chinese means pommelo
yuzu makes water classy, love the laundry detergent note
My mom would always get a jar of Yuja jam at the supermarket when I got a cold - nothing helps more than a cup of hot Yuja tea when your throat’s aching like crazy
I’ve only ever heard of a pomelo on this channel and this is the first time I’ve even seen one. I feel like I just saw a urban legend.
You are inspiring me to mask up and visit the Asian market!
I'm planning on maybe grow yuzu indoors
nice! it's a great fruit
What zone are you in?
Omg, Jared’s fruit are now commenting on his videos.
@@AllYourRAw 4b
O wow yeah that's cold. God speed.
Watching him bite into that totally made my mouth water!
Meyer lemon rind is actually pretty decent with sugar. I used to candy the peels from our meyer tree (cooked them in simple syrup), and they were delicious.
I hate sour things, but I can almost tolerate eating Meyer lemon straight. We have a tree in our backyard. It fruits most of the year (we're in Melbourne, Australia), and we cannot use enough of them
Watching jared eat sour stuff is the cleanest, best pleasure
i like the flavor of yuzu in cooking, it's also really nice floating around in a hot bath
Yuzu is my favorite citrus fruit. Really one of the flavours I miss from Japan. Yuzucha is better when it is made from just Yuzu and honey, no corn syrup. Kakegori with yuzu is also nice.
We have an orange tree from the original groves here in orange county california and a lemon tree that i might try making this tea with sounds nice
You are my all time favorite RUclipsr.
Thank you for the well-made video.
I'm currently in the process of making a limoncello-type concoction; with Everclear and yuzu rind instead of lemon. It would be interesting to try the same thing with shangjuan lemon, or other citruses known for their aromatic and flavorful rinds.
Sounds great! I've got bergamot soaking in vodka right now to use as an extract. Its only been a month and it smells like a tea factory. Great way to use the rinds.
@@WeirdExplorer
Can. Anything be done with Osage? Safely?
I would like to try that Yujacha yuzu tea at 6:18 on toast like marmalade. Also, I might try marmalade in hot water, as a tea. Maybe some fresh or powdered ginger too. Lime marmalade - yum.
Lime is my favorite!
I do this with meyer lemons. It tastes great I think because the juice to rind ratio is a bit higher you don't get that soapy taste also the sugar definitely changes the peel a lot. gave them as homemade gifts this past Christmas and people have been asking if I can make more for them.
Fabulous vid, thanks for sharing your knowledge and taste description/opinion!
I have tried the ichang papeda and it tastes alright, kind of floral and very sour.
Yuzu is one of my favorite citrus i have tried
Wow I definitely need to try this out thank you!
I have had it for my tea. My neighbor has a tree of this and she sent us some.
mayer lemon is sweet. very good
I'm new to your channel, but I'm a huge fan now. I don't know if you would be interested in this but wanted to give you the name of quite unique and i believe non well known cherry - Cerasus mahaleb. Have a nice day :)
Oh nifty, the seeds are used as a spice... I'll have to find that one.
@@WeirdExplorer here where i live, aparat of the seeds, we eat those cherries and we, make liquiers out of it, you can also add some to the regular cherry juces to give them some kick. :)
I bet that would taste great used as marmalade too
If memory serves the first of your videos I watch was a citrus video. There’s something really interesting about citrus.
There are many exotic fruits in Guyana you should try. Or pop into Queens market in New York. Some are mamee- round yellow delicious thick juicy fruit, another is stinking toe- brown, similar to ice cream bean but it's fluffy and sweet. Yummy. There are many others.
8:09 "a handful of bitterness"
Who hasn't been called that before
I've had the honey Citron and ginger tea they sell at Costco and that's pretty good too
1:23 holy crap those two really really really look like limes
Appreciate the work put in this. As I am concern I 'd try with less and less sugar until I can drink or eat the thing with, as a side effect, more yuzu taste in it. Since I can munch directly on a wedge of lemon and already diminishing the sugar content of most of my recipe from their standard... I may be able get a tasty snack..
Here in Korea we make yujacha-like marmalade-teas with basically any citrus we can find! Also, we sterilize the jar beforehand and refrigerate them for extra safety.
A couple interesting side notes:
- Kabosu (if I remember correctly it's not kobosu) is also the name of the famous shiba inu of the doge meme.
- "Shangjuan" clearly doesn't mean fragrant ball in Chinese. 香球 is Xiangjiu in Mandarin and Hoengkau in Cantonese, and a search about the fruit in Baidu actually returned no results.
The closest I got to "Shangjuan" in the Chinese web was Xiangyuan(香橼), which is just citron (C. medica).
dont forget to like his vids also look for ebbings silverberry there pretty good and verry common as there used for hedges
l wonder if a 'salt fermented' citrus would be more yummy?
Looking at the thumbnail, I thought you were finally going to review an actual Shatkora. 😞 As I mentioned in the comments, the video where you reviewed a "shatkora" was actually an Adda Lebu. Two similar, but different citrus fruits. Also, I don't know if I mentioned it, you might want look out for the Jara Lebu - probably the most fragrant of all citrus fruits.
I have a bit of an obsession with citrus fruits. I was wondering if there was an orange sized grapefruit? If there was, I'd call it a pomelito
Shangjuancha sasquatch shuffle-cha-cha
Awesome kiridashi, btw.
What a cool Knife
It's a Global. They're on par with Victorinox -- good beater knives with soft steel. They sharpen easily but need to be sharpened more often than harder knives.
That yuzu is massive!
😣😅😂😅 a knee slapper! You're the best!💖💗💖
Hearing your reaction to the bitter rind had me lmao
Fragrant ball sounds like a pokeball
14:20 will there be an episode of the ultimate citrus-aid? :O
Hi, I have an odd fascination with fruits and vegetables too. I literally just found this channel and instantly subscribed. I'm 26 and live in southwest florida and I torture myself trying to grow fruits and such. I always tell myself and others, the house I buy will have a big lawn so I can plant a bunch of crap and just enjoy it. Just about everything will grow in zone 10.
A fruit that has puzzled me for quite some time is a type of lemon called the "lemonade lemon." Apparently it is a light yellow (almost white) and it produces lemons that you can apparently just eat and its not bitter. I have seen videos of it on youtube claiming its a hybrid (obviously) but I would like to know if you've tried one, know about them or if you would go on a special activity to hunt them down and try them? If I could find them, I would grow them, but you can't ship certain things to florida unfortunately
Have you ever tried a shiquwasa? It's a citrus fruit native to Okinawa (or so I've heard)! I've had shiquwasa flavored yogurt and it was really yummy. 😊
You can get bottled yuzu juice on Amazon.
Nice!
Yuzu is a really good emulator
Instead of using a knife to remove the pith, use a peeler to remove the rind. When making marmalade or similar things the less pith you have the less bitter it will be.
The mix of sugars (ie glucose with sucrose) is to prevent crystallizing. Fructose is far sweeter per gram and a slower acting carb in the body. (glucose is the fastest from mouth to brain or muscle.)
Fructose is mainly metabolized in the liver. It is a five sided sugar not a six sided sugar like glucose. Insulin is not used to process fructose. Getting fructose from fruits or vegetables alone is the best way since it comes naturally packaged with fiber and vitamins to move slowly through the body. The use of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is linked to fatty liver and is best avoided.
@@tanyawales5445 Yes -ish
Fructose is converted into glucose by the liver, would be a more truthful way of stating it for a lay audience. "Metabolized" can be interpreted as fully consumed.
Thereafter insulin is used to process the resulting glucose beyond that which is directly consumed by the brain. Though the release of glucose from the liver is slow and steady so normal background insulin is sufficient. This is actually a fail safe mechanism (along with the glycogen pathway) so muscles are unable to fully starve the brain during prolonged exercise.
Fatty liver is linked with generally excessive food intake [regardless of fructose] and low physical activity. Which is how foie-gras is traditionally created. Not simply the same conditions that make a person gain fat, which could happen slowly over a long time. The fatty liver deal is usually from a more intense condition over a moderate time.
@@mytech6779 Glucose and fructose are metabolized very differently by the body.
While every cell in the body can use glucose, the liver is the only organ that can metabolize fructose in significant amounts.
When people eat a diet that is high in calories and high in fructose, the liver gets overloaded and starts turning the fructose into fat.
Hence, fatty liver.
Many scientists believe that excess fructose consumption may be a key driver of many of the most serious diseases of today. These include obesity, type II diabetes, heart disease and even cancer. www.healthline.com/nutrition/why-is-fructose-bad-for-you#TOC_TITLE_HDR_3
Fructose as consumed in fruits/vegetables is absorbed slowly by the intestines and does not cause health problems like HFCS or sucrose (disaccharide of glucose-fructose) can. HFCS and sucrose is cheaper than glucose and that is why it is found in large quantities in the American diet even though it is bad for us.
Sucrose is a disaccharide made of glucose-fructose which breaks down into glucose and fructose in the body. It is cheaper to use than glucose. In Europe in their candies and drinks they use glucose which the body can use immediately. The liver both stores and manufactures glucose depending upon the body's need. The need to store or release glucose is primarily signaled by the hormones insulin and glucagon. During a meal, your liver will store glucose as glycogen for a later time when your body needs it." Fructose is a sugar our bodies are not equipped to deal with except when it comes in fruits/vegetables which has fiber, pectin, vitamins and minerals allowing our intestines to slowly process it. The presence of fructose whether it is from HFCS or sucrose in American foods and drinks is all about making big business making money at the cost of Americans' overall health.
@@tanyawales5445 Not being concise and going out on subtle tangents does not mean you possess the basic understanding and foundation in the subject to pick up on the details of this conversation. Good day.
Yuzu is my favorite citrus to add to water. Goes way farther then lemon! But i also eat lemons Straight up
Wish you would have tried to make yuzu kosho
Is it possible to order yuzu by mail? I live in Ohio and have still never tasted a fresh one, nor ever seen one for sale in a grocery store of any type.
I'm sure you can. I forget the name, but Jared recommends a fruit website for buying fruit. I'm sure you can find it on his channel, might even be in the description
Can you try the Black Diamond Apple?
4:05 I GOT HUGE HUGE HUGE ReviewBrah similarities saying “it has a bit of a kiwi flavor”
The Citrus God! - Jared
I think I’ll stick to calling it fragrant ball.
i'm too lazy for this but i'm tempted to put some hot water over a couple of spoons of orange marmalade
I was intrigued also.
pretty much the same deal. probably would taste good :)
"This is a handful of bitterness..." To me it's a handful of pectin. When I make regular marmalade I put the pith in a cheesecloth bag and boil it with the marmalade. The milky pectin releases when the bag is cooled and squeezed.
Some yuzu cha's even use ginger in their tea, it adds a pepperish and sweet flavour and aroma, also have you ever tried the Oroblanco(aka the Sweetie).
Hmm maybe.. is it this one? ruclips.net/video/SJEp_I7OK40/видео.html
I did a little research, and the sweetie is a hybrid of the pomelo and the grapefruit, I'm not so sure if the grapefruit is a parent though it might be the mandelo but you should still try the sweetie out, one popular brand is jaffa and I can even find sweetie at costco
I want to make this drink with sumo citrus
Seeing as how the "algorithm comment" guy isn't here yet, I thought I'd fill the gap: Algorithm comment, algorithm comment, algorithm comment. Ahhhhhhhhh, satisfying!
thank you for your service
@@WeirdExplorer Just doing my duty, Sir.
I’m really fond of Seville orange jam, but the amount of sugar needed is similar to this so I can’t really have any...
Oh nice. is that with the rind and juice?
The doge dog's name is Kabosu.
I'm sure that aside from the sugar, all that extra citric acid probably makes it really difficult for most bacteria to take hold. I wonder what other citrus fruits can be used to make the tea.
My dude Jared went from Fragrant Ball to Saint John
plot twist: the annoying orange creator retires to review his fruits for educational purposes haha Love ur vids !
Another one of those times I wish Miami fruit delivered exotics to California
this isn't from Miami fruit. This was grown in CA
Since California grows Citrus (& wants to protect their crop), you will have to order plants and probably fruit in-state. However you don't lack options in California. The USDA has their Citrus germplasm repository in California. Fruitwood Nursery (affiliated with Rolling River, if you don't want to graft) sells scionwood for Yuzu and many other things. There are lots of exotic fruit nurseries in California, and in urban centers you might be able to try the fruit before buying a tree because the large and diverse Asian population creates a demand for unusual fruit known in the source cultures (like I can find blackcurrant juice in Chicago, due to the Polish heritage here, but never could where I grew up).
I wanna make a phase diagram of citrus fruit hybrids
I've seen a couple. The problem with it is that its really complicated once you start considering cultivars. Sometimes hybridizing two species give different results.
Jared: this is extremely bitter. You don’t want to eat it.
Also Jared: imma eat it.
I've always eaten my lemons and limes with salt I've tried it with sugar but I don't like it is there anybody else out there that agrees?
I have done salt on grapefruit and I quite like it; I will try salting my limes and lemons next
time I have some! (Which is with some frequency 😄)
@@aixmcduck9321 I love salt on grapefruit and watermelon.lol
I used yuzu to make a beurre blanc today. I wonder how this one would do. Might be too bitter.
And any of your citrus fruits could replace the water with lemon combo or be a better slice of lemon on a glass ?
This is a handful of bitterness.😂
The way he cuts things makes me anxious.
Hey I have a weird fruit that I’m not sure if you have eaten how should I contact you?
my email is in the about page :)
Thank you👍👍
Cross it with tangerine?
Good idea, I am not keen on trying the manufactured one because it contains Fructose syrup. It is better to make your own. Seeing Jared eat something sour kills me every time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Getting shang wan out of xiangqiu hurt me.
