Mr Jack, you are so right! Dan Kelly was outstanding. His son, John Kelly, is a legacy who sounds as good as his dad. Most announcer sons aren’t as good as their dads, but JK clearly carries the Kelly torch very capably.
Boy seeing this took me back to perhaps my favorite era as a Hawk’s Fan. Listening to the home games with Lloyd Pettit on the call was truly an exciting time for me. It kinda made me sad knowing that so many of my favorites from that time have passed away. Great memories though !!
@@ghytgb Well they got to the finals in 71 and 73. They should have won it 71. I still have nightmares about game 7. That is my worst sports memory of all time. I was 12 and it broke my heart.
How bad was Tony O? Dang. Amazing to me. We in hockey starved NWI were not easily able to watch this. Every time a key save would have helped win the cup, Esposito lets in a softy. LOL
I love my Hawks and cheered them fervently in 71 and 73, but after this series the realization of why the reason Habitant de Canadien parted ways with Tony Esposito. When they played against him they had the open book on him and used his unorthodox style to their advantage. Those Hawks teams under Reay always filled the Madhouse on Madison.to the rafters and rocked the place into a frenzied festive fanatical flesh filled fete, but never were able to put it all together in the payoffs. Since that 61 Cup, which I have a distant childhood memory of, each succeeding season came to a crashing end dashing any dreams of hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup. After this Cup Final things pretty much fell off the end of the earth for another 10 years until Savard, Lysiak, Larmer et al got within a sniff of it. Unfortunately there was another nemesis waiting in the wings names the Edmonton Oilers. Thanks for the upload. Bittersweet, but a look back at my Hero’s and how and why they had my ass hopping out of my seat and chewing my fingernails down to the quick.
No Bobby Hull, no Gerry Cheevers and so many more gone to the WHA. The timing was wrong. Expansion had already stretched the talent. That's why the mid to late seventies were a goons paradise.

I just re-lived my youth. I was 8 yrs old. Remember like it was yesterday.
So happy to hear that. I love watching the old clips too.
Great hearing Dan Kelly narrate this film

A bitter, bitter memory for this Hawks fan. But thanks for posting this nonetheless.
I always thought if Bobby Hull and Pat Stapleton, who both jumped to tht WHA, were still with the Hawks that they could have won this series.
@@Moodyblues99 Agreed. 100%
@@Moodyblues99 Hawks were a poor playoff team back then

Well Tampa Bay Lighting is kicking their butts now !!!
Great memories!…10 yrs old living in Wheeling,IL
Wow ! That was one of the greatest Stanley cup finals of all ! Both teams were great, but in the end the Canadians prevailed ! Bravo Canadians ! 🙂👍
Montreal Canadiens was an incredible hockey team in 1973, too fast and skilled for the Hawks..
Agreed.
This was not 1971, This time the Canadiens were the much better team
@@michaelleroy9281 No Bobby Hull for the Hawks.
glad this one available chi mont finals 71 & 73 fun. nhl misedited 71 finals cutting within games, funny how no one in nhl fixed it.

I COULD NEVER BRING MYSELF TO FORGIVE HIM FOR THAT
Yep..in the crunch in 71 and the 73 finals, he and the Hawks crumbled..

As a old old hawks fan living in Montreal I suffered through the defeat!!!
I was 11 years old and if memory serves me correctly the first game was delayed due to a power failure at the Montreal Forum.
Life was good as a habs fan back then......now, not so much😮
those masks were fucking awesome
Philadelphia lost in 5 games to Montreal but they served notice they would be the team to beat next season
Should’ve been a 4th consecutive Cup for the Bruins (including 1971).
Dreamer!
VINTAGE HABS,,,,YVAN THE ROADRUNNER,,,
Speed & clutch.
Chicago should have played Gary Smith instead of Esposito. He was brutal in the whole series
In game 5 won by the Hawks 8-7 Esposito and Dryden must have taken the night off

Shame on Dollar Bill Wirtz for letting him go to Winnipeg and the WHA
