    his original name was Guoth/Gvoth which is i believe one of the more easily pronounceable slovak names... anyway he is one of the hockey best ever playes...still very highly thought of here in his home country...we were very proud of him and we still are...Rip legendary stan mikita

      I wish I was older to have been able to watch a player like him play. One of my favorite European players ever.

    Sounded like he was one heck of a player and really enjoyed his tribute the other night. Thanks for doing this video Shannon, its cool when players spend there whole career with one team!

      First European-BORN player. If only European-TRAINED players are included, the first one is a fellow Slovak, Peter Stastny.

    Stan Mikita will be miss and he is watching the Hawks with the Hockey Gods to support his team. He was the 1st Blackhawks to get his number retired.#ForeverABlackhawk

    I moved to the Chicago area not far from Aurora in '98. Very bummed to learn that Stan Mikita's Donuts wasn't real. Some years later I was working in a video store and discovered Mikita had a rental account. Alas, he never came to the store while I was there. A legend always eluded me. RIP.

    In 1968 I was a little immigrant boy to Toronto. Watched this new thing called hockey with my Dad and uncles ..... Dave Keon and Stan Mikita quickly became my favorite players.

    When I think of Stan Mikita, the first thing I think of is Stan Mikita's Donuts in the movie Wayne's World

    When I was a kid, of course Keon was my favorite player. In spite of Mikita playing for Chicago, he was a close second.

    Stan Mikita is my all-time favorite hockey player. I think Patrick Marleau's career is similar, a solid player who gets it done without ever having that one or two super-seasons.

    • @SverigeiSverige
      @SverigeiSverige 6 лет назад +2

      Rocket Jones no, Patrick has never been near Art or Hart.

    • @therocketjones

      Neither have most players, many in the HOF. Re-read what I said. Good production over a long career. Nowhere did I say Marleau was in the same class as Mikita.

      The 97 points that Mikita had in 68-69 were an NHL record. Those 4 scoring titles in 5 years were 'super' seasons for the time period. Patrick Marleau isn't even in the same conversation as Stan Mikita.

    Very nice video Shannon. Mikita really was one hell of a player. I was wondering maybe for a video idea do a Brett Hull/Bobby Hull video. Would be great to see them side by side representing their vastly different eras :)

    He had a very interesting background story. Basically his parents let his uncle and aunt to adopt him, so he could live in Canada instead of the communist Czechoslovakia. He lived with them since the age of eight, therefore I assume the pronounciation of the name had nothing to do with the change.

    Did you hear about an insane game in KHL today? Salavat ufa won against avangard omsk 3-2. Ufa having only 11 shots on goal and omsk 61 shots on goal. What happened? Would love to hear some opinion from you that how this can happen?

    I can imagine that his point totals would have been even greater if he didn’t have such a rough time with penalties.
