Great interview Sarah. You have a quick and sly sense of humor and you brought the best out of Stan. He was such a unique, great and sophisticated talent and a high quality person. Rest in peace Stan.

Long time Leaf fan here but I know who the greats were and Stan Mikita was one of them. A crafty great play maker and one of the greatest leaders the Black Hawks ever had.

Yes indeed. I was just a little kid in Toronto in the late 60's and my favorite players were Dave Keon .... and Chicago Blackhawk Stan Mikita!

When I was in seventh grade ‘69-‘70, I read Stan’s book “I play to Win”. I gained so much respect for Stan after reading his book. Although I’m a Bruin’s fan, I always had a soft spot for Mikita. Compliments to Sarah for a very good interview. Asking cogent questions and allowing the interviewee to speak is the mark of a good journalist/reporter.

Too bad he was ADDICTED to cancer sticks! Who knows how GREAT he could have been? Same with Denis Savard. These two had NATURAL born TALENT and ABUSED it!

My first helmet was the Stan Mikita helmet which I wore for a long time. That helmet saved my skull in a bad crash. I replaced it with the helmet of the day.

Every week I travel by train close to the lake named Liptovska Mara in Slovakia where he was born, and the village in which he was born is nowadays already inundated by that lake !

i SAW Gretzky FIFTY YEARS . ONLY HIS NAME THEN WAS
    STAN MIKITA .
STAN DID EVERYTHING GRETZKY DID .../. ONLY HE DID IT 50 YEARS AGO .
    THE BLIND PASSES TO NOWHERE
THAT WOUND UP IN THE NET .... THE UNBELIEVABLE STICK HANDLING ...
AND HE PLAYED THE GAME AT BOTH ENDS .
iF YOU EVER SEE A GOOD VIDEO OF STAN IT WILL MAKE YOUR EYES POP OUT ... HE CONTRLED THE PACE OF THE GAME ... HE WAS THE TOP PLAY MAKER F HIS DAY ... EVEN JEAN BELIVEAU COULDN'T DO WHAT STAN DID WITH THE PUCK . Stan was a much better two way player than HULL ... Stan was the most complete player of his day ,,, winning Heart trophies - scoring championships
and even Lady Bing trophies ... the only player in NHL history to win a TRIPPLE Crown '... and >>>> he did it twice > IN A ROW ... NOT EVEN GRETZHY DID THAT >>> !!!!!!!!!!!!
Quite possibly the least credited superstore all time player ...
again .... and i saw gretzky 50 years ago when his name was
    STAN MIKITA
