- The quality is not great, but it is a must watch for Montreal Canadiens fans. This is the last Canadian team to win the cup. I'm uploading this only because most would have no way of watching this. I could not find a digital copy of this anywhere, and as far as I know it is not available on DVD. To NHL Productions, please make your older videos available on dvd for purchase or online somewhere to stream or purchase as a digital download.
Patrick Roy And John LeClair, You Are The Best Of The Best!
I was 13 when they won . I remember it like it was yesterday.
i was 9 and had a feeling they would so i kept all newspapers of each victory but reflex.....my mom threw them away by mistake in 99
Thanks for the upload!
Great memories watching this.
Boy, could Bob Cole call a slap-puck match!
For a documentary that was originally recored for VHS, I think it's great. Thanks, chum!
Yes, thank you, Tommy. Watching it tonight brought back great memories. So much fun and it lasted for months too! Fantastic!

I used to have this on VHS. Thanks for uploading!
I still have all the games on vhs also
- "The quality is not great..." actually this is pretty good for a VHS tape. Thanks for sharing :-) I'm a Leafs fan but those 1993 playoffs were wild and unpredictable, both the Leafs and Islanders made unlikely runs to the conference finals, the 2-time defending Cup champion Penguins being upset in the 2nd round, the LA Kings made their deepest playoff run up to that point( including knocking out the Leafs in the conference final ), but it was Montreal that won a record-tying 11 straight games in the playoffs en route to their 24th Stanley Cup.
Like yourself, I'm a hard-core Leafs fan. I will never forget the '93 playoffs!! To this day, it is/was the post-season I remember the most. The playoffs were great in 1994 as well.

@@jeanluke39 It certainly does. Your Habs are playing great! As a Leafs fan though, I don't want Montreal to duplicate what they did in '93 ... 😉
Oh just imagine if it had been Montreal and Toronto in the final that year
Who do you think would have won?
Two eastern teams can’t be in the finals
@@JM-un6mk At the time Toronto was in the west
Ah yes. Two Original 6 teams, playing in two historic buildings, with similar playing styles and two French-Canadian goalies. It definitely would have been low-scoring and probably would have gone 7 games.
I still like to think the Habs would've won, but it would've taken more than 5 games. Dougie always had Patrick Roy's number. It would've been entertaining as the OT games vs the Kings.

Nobody was fully aware at the time, that this sweet, glorious triumph, would be
the LAST TIME a Canadian NHL team, would proudly lift hockey's sacred holy
grail, high above their heads.
There was a time when I only cared about Montreal winning but it's been so long that I'm basically going for any Canadian team at this point. Still hard for me when it's the Leafs though😉

But do you have a VHS player?
So do I. I want an HD dvd of it.
I was there at the Forum for game 5 against the Islanders. I will never forget the sea of people in the streets that night or the sounds of people screaming. It was so beautiful and so surreal. I had no voice the next day, like half of the city. Thanks for bringing back that precious memory.
Must have been great. I was at Game one vs the Sabres. Amazing energy as well but I'm sure your game was so much more because it meant we were in the Stanley cup finals.

One of the best NHL playoffs ever, thanks for uploading this.
I have watched all the Stanley Cup finals for 5+ decades. This was by far the most exciting playoffs EVER! 10 overtime wins! For any team in any year it would be amazing. It being my home team made it all the sweeter! A team of full of heroes on and off the ice! Never fails to thrill. So emotional. Thank you 1993 Habs! You're the greatest!

Demers took a HUGE gamble, knowing that if Montreal goes down 2-0, that's a different series. LA never recovered from that Illegal Stick call.
Fun fact: Eric Desjardin's 3 goal performance in that game was the first and only hat-trick by a defenceman in SC final history!
Great teams overcome adversity. It was a best of 5 after game 2 and LA lost all 3. Habs were INC-ROY-HAB-LE as the banner said during the game!
The memories:)
Tell me about it. It's been so long. Hopefully this rebuild brings it back one day.

People always seem to remember and key in on that illegal stick call when they think of this series but I have a different take on it. I watched every game and every minute (as I'm sure many others did) and what stood out to me was how much faster the Habs were than the Kings. They beat them to every loose puck and there were times when it was really almost like watching an old timers team against a junior A team lol. I looked it up and Montreal had 12 regulars who were 25 and under while L.A. only had 5!
being fast has always been a trademark of the habs and it still is today
38:15 east is east and west is west so the stanley cup final round series added a new destination on the roadmap L.A
At the 2:01 mark, the cameraman who caught Roy's wink at Sandstrom was sheer genius!
...and at 51:58, I always get goosebumps from that call by Gary Throne (10th OT win in a row)!
Yes, that wink is classic!!! Unfortunately it is now 30 years since a Canadian team won the cup.
@@sparaminpied777 » in Montreal, that's a drought of epic proportions... a city used to a Stanley Cup title at least once every decade...

Amazing. When I was watching, I felt like the team did. Overtime was our time to shine every time. Go Habs Go!

26 years later Kings Win 2 Stanley Cups and Montréal still searching for banner 25.
Very true. Although I would say that the Habs might be in better shape right now and for the next few years. Though it means very little unless they can turn it into a cup.
Had McSorley not penalized in game two, I think LA wins the game, and goes up 2-0 in the series. In fact, I think #99 & Co. go on to win the SC!

@@briancusack4386 Not a chance. Habs would've done the same to Kings as they did to the Nordiques where Habs lost 2 only to win 4 straight! Then Habs won 4 straight against Sabres, then 3 straight against Islanders and 4 of 5. Kings were done. Canadiens had only 4 loses to 16 wins! Team of destiny.
@@StFidjnr Boo!

One of the weakest teams to win a Stanley Cup alongside the Habs of 86
Habs 1993 playoffs: 16 wins and only 4 losses. Habs 1986 playoffs: 15 wins and 6 losses. 31 wins and 10 losses in total. Get a brain, fool.
@@davidrichards7867 Patrick Roy was 80% of the reason they won those two cups. They were unremarkable during the regular season. Take out Patrick Roy And they wouldn't get past the 2nd round in either season. Not a single 100 pointer In the 1992-93 Season. Had Steve Smith of the Oilers not scored into his own net the Oilers would have destroyed the Habs in 86. Had Gretzky not been traded Gretzky's Oilers would have thrashed the 92-93 Habs in four straight.
@@davidrichards7867 you are looking at it the wrong way. The Islanders and Oilers dynasty were much more skilled than the Habs. Same for Lemieux's Penguins and The Detroit Red Wings. Even the 1990 Oilers without Gretzky had way more skill and offense than the 86 and 93 Habs.
I wouldn’t say weak but Defintely a team that didn’t have a lot of star power besides Roy. They didn’t seem to have a lemieux Gretzky Roenick or big time scorers but they had an outstanding goaltender
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 I think I get what you're saying in terms of the team not having star power but I'd argue you are the one looking at it the wrong way.
On the contrary, the 93 Habs were one of the strongest _teams_ ever to win the Stanley Cup, much like the Devils in 95.
I don't think your comment about Montreal not having a100 point getter is a great argument considering Damphousse and Muller had 97 and 94 respectively. Bellows & Lebeau also had 80+. The Kings had only one player with over 100 points and 3 above 80 points and yet they had more goals in the regular season. That brings up the larger point which is teams built for the regular season do not necessarily translate into successful playoff teams. Even though the Habs had the 6th best record and 3rd most wins in the regular season!
Your predictions about hypothetical teams destroying others is misguided. I am sure all the pundits thought the Penguins would blow away the competition, including the Islanders, in 93 too based on their skill level and regular season dominance.
That's why they play the games vs. comparing regular season stats.
