  • We've been traveling in Mexico for 7 months now with our dog, Laska. This is the worst experience yet.
    ►Laska treat fund: / tangerinetravels
We'll admit, if this is the worst thing that's happened during our Mexico travels, we're not doing too shabby. Still, we are saddened by what happened at the Mexico dog boarding facility in Ajijic, Jalisco.
Today, we explain the whole dog boarding situation and about our first time at a veterinarian in Mexico plus we'll talk about Mexico veterinarian prices in the Lake Chapala area.
If you're considering becoming an expat and moving to Mexico, you might have a lot of questions - especially if you're bringing your dog or other pets with you.
If you're wondering what it's like bringing your dogs to México, we did an entire video on this topic a while back so you might want to check that out: • bringing a dog to mexi...
    ABOUT US (MADDIE & JORDAN)
In January 2018, we sold everything we owned in the US (except our husky Laska & what fit in our tiny, tangerine Prius C3) to travel the world-starting with Mexico. Since then, we've been making travel videos about our life in Mexico and the new experiences we encounter while traveling the world. If you'd like to join our shenanigans, subscribe to our RUclips channel. You can also poke around our social media to find out what we’re up to each week.

Jerry Brown Travels had a video where he mentioned pet sitting for people, says a lot of Expatriates will pet sit for each other. Some seniors do it for a small fee- go to your place or stay there to care for your pet. He also mentioned that many maids will pet sit for an additional fee. Just a thought.... keeps pets safer and individual attention and holding one person accountable. Sorry to hear about Laska!!! Thankfully it wasn’t worse:/ I it nice to see you love your dog so much. ❤️🐕

One of the most difficult adjustments we've had to make, since moving to Mexico almost 2 years ago, is the general attitude towards dogs here. We've also found a very good vet here. But, we constantly see dogs neglected, exploited & mistreated here.

I am speaking as a Mexican who knows exactly how these business operate, lax in complying with regulation knowing that they could even bribe authorities. Do they have insurance? who knows. I'm fully behind you, my advise is for you to mention the name and address of this place, their behavior leaves a lot to be desired or expected from a facility that is supposed to take care of pets, this behavior wouldn't be allowed in the US, Mexico is behind in this regard. I feel sorry for beautiful Laska. Mention al information possible of this place and I promise I will get in touch with them to let them know how unethical they are.

Good advice, Monte, but they weren't home! They were staying at Villa de Angel which probably did not allow pets. As travelers, they didn't know anyone in Ajijic well enough to trust with their dog. They did what they felt was best for Laska, but the kennel not only failed to inform them about what happened, they kept all the food that Laska didn't eat! The kennel is in business for the money. Owning a pet is a HUGE responsibility, and that's why I don't have, or want, one.

When I owned a dog (yes, he was my little boy, no different than a human child), I too had a negative experience with one dog boarder: she literally kept him in a small cage all weekend long; his belly was covered in his own dried vomit and I suspect she didn't even feed him since I think I got two of the three cans of dog food I left for him. I wanted to report her, but I didn't really know the facts other than his belly was covered with dried vomit. Of course, I never boarded him again at that place--and the last time I checked she was no longer in business which didn't surprise me. Hence, I fully understand what you must be feeling after what your beautiful dog went through. God bless all three of you.
And you should report the dog boarding place especially if you decide to leave that area and don't plan on living there again while in Mexico. Such places might get ok reviews if nothing happens to most dog owners' loved ones, so allow individuals to contact you for the name of that boarding place.

Does this vet have an animal rescue? This is so concerning because our animal companions are our fur babies.
I think you are handling the situation correctly. People should know about this place if they live in the area and there is a chance they may take their dog there.
I am questioning that vet's ethics now especially if he has that rescue I have read about that benefits so much from the donations from the non native residents of the area.
Poor Laska. I hope she is doing better and that this experience did not traumatize her permenantly.
Take good care of your little family.

What a sad experience, I had a similar experience in Guadalajara with a veterinarian office that has a sitter service, I noticed that one of my dogs had very awful nightmares crying and winning on her sleep after staying there but I just thought that she was only stress, so next time I took my dogs there, same thing that happened to you happen to me, my small dog had a big chunk of his head just open, you could almost see his skull, they didn’t called me, they didn’t mentioned it, and they didn’t clean it, and they are a veterinarian office!! I was furious. So of course I never took them there again, but I was left with this awful feeling, so I can imagine how you guys feel. I’m sorry this happened to you, but on the bright side my dog is ok, fully recovered and I’m sure Laska will be ok soon too, I learned a great deal from the experience and I ‘m sure you did too, love your videos, and hope you can leave all this behind you soon.

❤️🐺 "Roh, roh, roh, roh" I think that Ms Laska has a good heart and would just as soon move on, just be honest, anybody asks just tell the truth! When I traveled I'd just as soon give someone the keys to my house than board my little girl (Pure Bred Abyssinian cat with the attitude of a Queen). "There's lots of animal lovers out there all over the world". Tell "Rut Roh" to make up a great story like, I was saving a family from a house fire, calling 911 with my one paw, garden hose in the other, the heat was intense but I ran in and saved the family cat which confused the Police dog who bit my ear... lol😂❤️ Why not contact call profeco, (www.profeco.gob.mx ) and ask their opinion!

I had a golden retriever that attacked a husky at the dog park. She also took a chunk out of the dogs ear. One time she chased a husky down the street. She did not like huskies. I got to talking to a lady one day at a coffee shop, and she said that she used to raise huskies. She also said that other dogs hate huskies because they're part wolf. Assuming this is true, it's probably best not to leave her with other dogs.

I really enjoy going through your experiences with you, you're so down to earth & straight forward with all you do. I wouldn't trust a pet care facility before I had a good feeling about them, they're your kids! I make most of my trusting decisions with feeling, if it doesn't seem to make me feel right I don't go period. There's always more choices, just make time for them. Here's a thought, wouldn't it be good to drop your dog off two days early then check on her the next two days just to make you feel more comfortable leaving her there? Is it worth the extra to days cost?

Hi Guys! I know this is an older video and you probably won't see this comment, but just in case. I think you handled the situation in a really classy way. It was good info for people to have so they can spot some of these possibilities. I agree there would be little point in simply announcing the name. You could suffer repercussions. The people who are in that area can find the name if they really need it. Perfect! Also, I don't mean to sound condescending, but you both are still pretty young to handle all these tricky situations with such grace.

Laska was so distressed when you picked her up from the boarding place, it is vital that you name officially this place, they must not be in business at all. Your dog has a chunk of her ear missing, this is not acceptable. They should not mix dogs, they are absolutely careless. And they never even mentioned of what happened to her ear when you paid the fee how terrible. It is vital that you report this boarding dog place, please do it

Hello there, I am a long time viewer of your channel and have recently subscribed because I love your content. I am not a computer/internet/modern social media kind of guy so forgive me if I don't know much about leaving comments. Having said that, I felt compelled to comment on your dog getting injured at this facility. I have owned and operated an in home boarding service for over 35 years. I have trained professionally for 40 and am currently a handler of a detector dog professionally.
First off let me assure you, your wonderful dog is going to be fine. Dogs really do see things differently than we humans do. Having said that, I absolutely know how horrible both of you feel as a result of having this happen.
The operators of that facility most certainly should have contacted you immediately and explained and apologized IMMEDIATELY. They should have waived your fee, period.
Anyone who knows dogs and pack dynamics know to never introduce "stimulus" to a pack of dogs who are thrust together like they are in that facility. Bad things are certainly going to happen (throwing a ball) or any other prey instinct provoking activity will absolutely result in something like this happening more often than not.
I am certain beyond certain that those people had absolutely NO idea your dog was injured because it is obvious they really and truly don't know much about dogs. They take in dogs, cross their fingers and hope nothing happens. They THINK they know what owners want, they obviously do not.
Free advice coming now........... Humans don't like the thought of their dogs being isolated in a kennel. It is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS safer for the dog mentally and physically for the "new" dog to be kenneled ALONE at first. Then once all of the other dogs have had a chance to sniff, observe and check out "the new guy" should the dog be introduced to the "pack" and this should be done with only a few (2,3) dogs at a time.
Next time you have to board for a day or two, inspect the kennel space, if it's clean with ventilated shade request your dog be isolated from the other free roaming dogs. It is hard on humans to think the dog is better off this way but it simply is.
I enjoy you guys a great deal and am a lover and more importantly a student of dogs. Lets keep that wonderful member of your family safe.
    Thanks.

You handled this issue very well. From experience, I can tell you , in Ecuador, if you disparage a business, with all the proof in the world to support your complaint... you WILL be sued. Being a Gringo insures you will loose. They take the side of the business very seriously. If you affect it adversely, you will be sued, with a sad outcome for the honest consumer. Sad, but true. In your instance, you obviously didn't want to take revenge, rather to give honest notification to others. Glad your pup came out well.
