This movie should have r-u-n-n-o-f-t with the Best Picture Oscar amongst a whole host of others. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time. RIP Ralph Stanley.
It's really just a feel-good movie. Makes twenty times more sense when you actually read the Odysseus (I can't actually imagine what the movie must've been like for someone who hasn't. Probably very hectic). Definitely not one of Coens best works, but as they never disappoint it was a fun ride anyway.
This film has grown on me over the years. I can say it’s one of my favorites now. The Cohen’s are such masters of their craft, plus they get the best people for their productions.
One thing about family members who sing, since they grew up in the same home, with the same people, they sing with the same vocal inflections and timing that make those beautiful harmonies just as tight as they can be. Even the little pauses sound as though they come from one voice. Awesome.
Loved every moment of this movie. The acting was great, Clooney never did anything before or will he ever do anything to top this performance, the entire cast made their characters so very real...and then the music...hard to pick a favorite...from Jailhouse Now to Fly Away to Man of Constant Sorrow, it was all just fabulous....all so cleverly written. Thought I would die laughing at Delmar and Clooney does comedy very well, too.....i have seen this dozens of times mbut never get tired of it!!!
I enjoyed this movie when it came out, but as time passes, I view it as somewhat extraordinary. Hollywood being obsessed with CGI comic book movies, this film stands apart as a very unique piece of art. I first saw the three fugitives as the stars of the film; I now see the context / environment as the star, with the three men moving, bewildered, through it. The Coen brothers took more chances in this film than most directors do in a lifetime.
Oh Brother Where Art Thou...best movie best soundtrack best actors actresses produced written brilliantly..the sets the clothing the extras man just flawless so creative and beautiful.
That album isn't really much in terms as country. Its bluegrass, folk, religious, which i guess are thr genres country music has traditionally pulled from. I can't stand newer stadium country and there isn't a single song on that soundtrack that I hate
The only three female vocalists I've ever heard with harmony any better are Dolly Parton, Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. These three young ladies are part of a musical masterpiece (the Oh, Brother... soundtrack)
Man of Constant Sorrow moves me every time i hear it, and i'm not really into country or whatever that is, i like electronic dance music. Love this film, could watch it 100 more times, much appreciation to the Coen bros and everyone else who made it happen!
This movie is just classic lines from start to finish. "Now Delmar I just don't think that's Pete." "Of course it's Pete! Look at him!" "No, I never was turned into a toad." "Almost loved up though."
"The preacher says all my sins is warshed away, including that Pigly Wiggly I knocked over in Yazoo." "I thought you said you was innocent of them charges." "Well, I was lyin'. N the preacher says that sin been warshed away too." 😂
One of the top ten greatest movies ever made with possibly the greatest soundtrack. My favourite song has changed over the years as I've grown older and more appreciative.
This was a fun movie to work on. I was hired as a military coordinator to assist with the choreographers in the "rally" scene. They needed a large group of individuals who were capable of marching in step and taking directions. I brought about 125 former military extras to make the scene work. It was quite ridiculous, actually. Great memories of the crew!
@Mark Clark We worked several days, sometimes he was pretty stressed, but he treated us pretty cool. A lot of us were Veterans, so maybe that had a little to do with it.
@John LaFever - I didn't act in the film, I helped coordinate the scene. They needed the guys to march. Most of the guys who played the Klan guys were a little uncomfortable wearing hoods, but felt better once they learned it was very comedic and mocked the Klan. Interestingly enough, the guys wearing the hoods represented several different races.
My mother was laid to rest in 2008 to the song Angel band because my father liked these little girls version... So I can't make it through this movie without tears...😢😢
As the father of award-winning daughters (State champions, vocal trio/ performance of the year 2011, state of Georgia), I was moved almost to tears by these young ladies' voices. My hearing is diminishing with age and aural abuse, but it's not so far gone as to not hear the nuance and beauty of three-part harmony. Not yet, anyway.
So if every state had a competition and it's been 9 years since then your kids won there has been 450 groups of other trio winners. Can I ask how many trio groups were in that competition your daughters were in ? I was 2nd place in a spelling bee....out of 4 kids.
I was in College, my 2nd year….i saw it 4 times. By myself, on a date (very good date), took my parents later and my grandma (she never spoke English). But she hadn’t ever been to the movies in decades but she enjoyed it. To this day, watching the love feels like the 1st time I saw it. Other than Pulp Fiction, and The Abyss this is one of the few movies I can watch over and over without getting tired and bored. I was mind boggling to me on why nobody knew about it. And how empty the movie theatre was…..until the Grammys. When BOb DYlan appeared and ot won a bunch of awards for its music…then it became a smash then it became success. It was a slow burn, just like the Matrix, like Pulp Fiction and even like The Big Lebowski. No a days if a movie doesn’t make any friction it gets pulled. Back then movies were playing in theatres for months….and then they grew an audience. Now they get a month maybe two and then to streaming. People still want and care about movies like this….but movie executives only care about the bottom line.
Love three gals voices, simply beautiful! The gentleman singing also was EXCELLENT! Funny, I don't even listen to this type of music, but I sure do love this sample of wonderful feel, fantastic vibe. I mean I could listen to listen at any moment of the day! Mind you I come from classic rock, Led Zepplin, Journey, Queen, ToTo, Rush, Aerosmith, etc... I know, I know, crazy right?! But this particular video, and the music, voices in it raised the hairs on my arms!! I mean, not many things in life can do that to my system!
Lots of respectable people been hit by trains, Judge Hobby over in Cookeville got hit by a train, Plus what was I supposed to tell em, that you were sent to the penal farm and I divorced you from shame?

I was setting up at a gig and a young lady of maybe 10 came up to me and asked me if I could play and sing at the same time. I told her yes, she said show me, so I did a little bit. She was enthralled, I thought it was so cute.
I had a chance to see the post-movie tour that all the artists on the soundtrack did after the movie was so popular. That was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Unfortunately, Allison Kraus had laringitis and could not sing that night. But I got to hear the Nasheville Gluegrass Band, Emmylou, Ralph Stanley, Dan Tyminki and others all on the same show.
