I was proven right immediately when he began starting for the Steelers and has gone 3/3 with very solid QB ratings. Similarly Caleb Williams is on a bad team and he is beginning to look like a bust because, again, he is on a bad team. Once he gets out of Chicago (inevitably will happen because the organization is a heaping pile of garbage) he will flourish and play well. If you would’ve put the context together with the video, you would’ve seen that what I was saying is that the 5 really bad teams in the NFL (Bears, Browns, Titans, Panthers, Raiders) have pretty horrendous organizations that do not allow players to grow and flourish. That’s why teams like the Eagles, the Chiefs, the Vikings, the Packers, etc can be expected to be good no matter their starters -because they are just run better.

    I’m so happy for Sam Darnold as a Jets fan and as a football fan in general. I’ve always been high on him since his USC days. It’s incredible to see how he’s been performing and how confident he is now. Same with Geno Smith these last couple seasons along with Justin Fields.
    These casual football fans say that coaching does not matter at all and after 2020, I would say it matters very much. Same with teambuilding because I look at Patrick Mahomes and I look at Joe Burrow, as well as Jalen hurts and Lamar Jackson. Guess what those guys have in common? An organization that knows how to develop players, sign players, draft players, and good coaching.
    The Jets have not have neither in the last decade, and as a matter of fact, I feel that the last two starting quarterbacks proceeded in error. Rogers did not have the talent that was needed to make the team better and the players. I remember Sam Darnold in his last season with the Jets and that team was so terrible. Anytime your weapons are Jamison Crowder, Breshard Perriman, Braxton Berrios, and Denzel Mims you’re not winning shit at all. That offensive line was absolutely fucking garbage and it’s a miracle we won any games at all that year. Now compare the 2020 Jets with the Chiefs and even the Colts, it’s like night and day.

Thankfully, he got his chance when the starter Dan Pastorini broke his leg in 1980. Gave him the chance to go out there and prove himself which he did. Like Willis he didnt have a ton of experience in college, didnt play against a ton of FBS competition, but had lots of of raw talent.
    If he had a chance to sit and learn the same system for several years, he might turn into something.
    But Willis is a rare breed. In terms of athleticism and arm strength, hes on the level of a Michael Vick. Also had a 32 wonderlic score. He was just played way too soon, benched way too soon, and played for coaches who had little interest in developing and adapting to him. And that's foolish. Lifelong Browns fan here. I defended Baker longer than any of my diehard Browns fan buddies but I had to accept the reality that he wasn’t the fit for the Browns anymore
    My theory is that Baker was NOT one of the boys. It seemed like he was insistent on being a lone wolf at QB and outsider with a chip on his shoulder when he had 4 years to develop the needed camaraderie with the core of the team.
    I hope he continues to do well but dammit I wish things would have gone better with him

    I wanna note, the most common factor for these guys is moving from a mediocre team to a decent team, and then getting the opportunity to re examine their game from the bench leading to them making the most of their opportunities.

    It’s a simple reason as to why these guys aren’t doing good right off the hop. A lot of these guys were starters right from the get go. No time to actually learn the game at the NFL level. All of the greats sat behind someone their rookie year, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Steve young etc. As a Vikings fan, sign Darnold to a 2 year deal, allow J.J. To learn a little bit longer. Sam could just be having a Keenum kind of year. Caleb Williams will probably be the next one to add to this list.

    The reason why many of these Qb's are going better is the fact that they got an owner who knows how to run a football team so brings in coaches who know what there doing.

    We all know football is a team sport, but sometimes “we” (here meaning some fans and talk show hosts) act like only the QB matters. And they’ll even talk about two QBs playing each other like it’s a golf match going 1v1. Even though they’re never playing at the same time. Well if there was a golf match at one player had larger fairways and shorter holes and wins, does that mean he’s the better player, or won only due to having easier conditions? It’s probably the latter more than we think.

    If a player can get into the NFL theres like 95% they are elite they just need the right system, coaches and players around them

  • @vanguardj
    @vanguardj Месяц назад +1

    80% the coaches, 20% the player as far as I've ever seen. Teams only rebound from bad qb stretches when they liquidate the staff, then 'somehow' their qb woes are shortly thereafter solved.

    Most Quarterbacks are only as good as the team around them. Steve Young is a great example of this. He took over the reigns at age 30 and became a recurring ProBowler, won a Superbowl, and a couple of MVP awards.

    You got something wrong, Sam Darnold was named the starter for the Vikings way before JJ McCarthy got injured

  • @suspiciousactivity4266
    @suspiciousactivity4266 Месяц назад +1

    The thing with the Darnold situation is that Sam Darnold was always going to start before JJ McCarthy. If the season was doing bad then JJ would come in at like game 8. If you followed the Vikings training camp, JJ was creeping up to Darnold. JJ is the real deal too, and way way cheaper than Darnold. If JJ can play 80% like Darnold so far, that's a win.

    This is just proof that teams and fanbases don't give quarterbacks enough time to develop. Coming out of college and playing in the NFL isn't easy. Not everybody is Andrew Luck. Even Peyton Manning looked AWFUL his rookie season. That's the norm. It takes time. Jayden Daniels was mind blowing Monday, but even more so given he's a rookie. Then, looking at Caleb Williams and saying the Bears missed, that's not fair to a guy playing on a team that also had Justin Fields play poorly. We need to give guys time to develop.
