What I want to know: Does it justify the price premium over a windows laptop with a more powerful GPU and better IO? Or to put it another way, is the only reason to buy one of these if you really want/need MacOS?
Yes, the only reason to buy one is want/need MacOS. You have to decide which OS is suitable for your needs and then decide hardware. If you are windows user and blindly buying Mac for its polished hardware then you are going to get disappointed, coz it will not fit for your expected windows use cases.
FYI, when windows machines directly compete with macbooks, they cost the same. Like the Lenovo Carbon w/4k monitor...it costs as much or more! The cheap windows machines are cheaper...because they use "full hd" displays...which are as dated and restrictive for productivity as spinning HDDs.
Admittedly the keyboard update is pretty important but I think the slightly larger footprint for better thermals is by far the most important IMO but a keyboard that isn’t 💩 is definitely a must.

@@MichaelGGarry Thank you, yeah
Michael Garry I think you forgot about a big percentage of people that actually use them: Photographers
Zerge6095 it’s been almost 4 years. I’d say photographers have moved on. It used to bother me when I’d edit my videos but it’s not a thing anymore.
Really wish I could afford this laptop! The speakers are phenomenal, the monitor is gorgeous, and the new keyboard is actually super nice to type on. Now that my iPad is basically my main device I wouldn't totally mind a larger laptop (my current one is 13") for the extra power on the go.
The time has come to replace my 2011 MacBook Pro!
I will keep my late 2011 17" for some more. Love the 17" screen. And with dosdude1's Catalina patcher it's still rocking
I would say the SD card slot and the HDMI port are missing. But the SD card is like a really big bummer to not to have.
So fully specced new Macbook pro is around 6 grand.
CPU with 8 cores, 64Gb of RAM, Radeon 5500m with 8Gm of VRam and whooping 8Tb of SSD storage. Actually, not that bad.
most of this review was "fine" and "sure" and "whatever"
The Microphone is actually Studio quality Dieter! This Mac is finally worth the money! Wish I could afford it.. lol
Bring back MagSafe and you've got a real winner...
I like the subtle background music!
going backwards is a true progress, well played apple
It's a good change
See mkbhd's review
The butterfly mechanism actually never went forwards sooooooo.....
@@lannypopcorn9429 well you didn't understand the comment soooooo......
Me: Buys a maxed-out 15 inch macbook pro
Apple: Next day discontinues 15inch macbook, releases 16inch macbook that is better in every way same price.
FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
@@maddifurxan5773 Imagine someone buying it 31 days before the release
What I want to know:
Does it justify the price premium over a windows laptop with a more powerful GPU and better IO? Or to put it another way, is the only reason to buy one of these if you really want/need MacOS?
I think that goes with all Macs. I use a Windows desktop but I prefer MacBooks for laptops.
Yes, the only reason to buy one is want/need MacOS. You have to decide which OS is suitable for your needs and then decide hardware. If you are windows user and blindly buying Mac for its polished hardware then you are going to get disappointed, coz it will not fit for your expected windows use cases.
macos is very fluid and smooth, and the value of a mac keeps it even after many years when you want to sell it
FYI, when windows machines directly compete with macbooks, they cost the same. Like the Lenovo Carbon w/4k monitor...it costs as much or more! The cheap windows machines are cheaper...because they use "full hd" displays...which are as dated and restrictive for productivity as spinning HDDs.
@steve crawford When you go shopping for a computer with
Admittedly the keyboard update is pretty important but I think the slightly larger footprint for better thermals is by far the most important IMO but a keyboard that isn’t 💩 is definitely a must.
This looks so good! I’m still happy with my 2017 13” model, but this could be my next 🤔
My 2011 MacBook Pro is still chugging along like a beast.
16" but no numpad?
Do Apple fans not use numpad?
RR Sharizam I personally don’t like numpads even on desktop keyboards . They either force the rest of the keys off center on laptops or your mouse has to move further away causing more shoulder strain.
I use MacBook Pro retina 13 late 2013 for almost six years and happy
I wonder will MacBook Pro have 10bit displays or 120fps displays by 2025?
My 2013 Macbook Pro still works perfectly fine
Apple only gave new MacBooks to those who won't test thermals
Music is real nice in this video!
Just the right sounds and volume :D
(around 3 min especially good bc its very spacial)
With the same starting price, this new MacBook Pro now starts at 512GB SSD. Well done Apple!
This really is the “we listened” model.
Why doesn't it have a full keyboard? If not a numpad, at least have a nav cluster. Home and End are really useful in Word or the terminal.
when they add the ports in the next one, then I'll buy it
I want to see them stacked on top of each other (top view) and next to each other with the 15 inch, so we can get a fell of how much bigger it is.
