    I should have mentioned in the video that the weight of these new A/T4's is pretty much the same as the A/T3's in the same sizes. So the weight hasn't really changed with this next generation. There are some A/T4's that are now offered in SL (standard load range), and those are substantially lighter than their A/T3 10 ply predecessors. You do however lose about 1,100lbs of max load per tire with the SL compared to the C range in this video. Also, here is a link to a chart I made sorted by weight for many of the popular A/T & R/T tires if you'd like to compare. I picked a 295/70/18 for the chart because it was easy to find that size from most of the manufacturers (the tire in this video is highlighted on the chart since it's a slightly different size).

      I would be mounting these to an Access Cab Tacoma all stock so the SL tire would probably fit my use. Be interesting to see if they are good for me in stock sizing or +1.

    • @PottersWork

      @@J.Young808 I honestly would consider the SL even for my Tundra if they offered it in the size I needed. I only tow a boat occasionally. However it would be nice to have a couple extra ply's when I am on trails or when hauling the occasional heavy load.

    Upgraded to Wildpeak A/T3W in 295/70 18 on my 17 F350 crew/long bed with a power stroke ~7 months ago, from the Nitto Terra Grappler 2 in a 285 size. So far the A/T3W have been comfortable and quiet, while running 58F/48R pressures as my daily driver. The only thing I can see is the tread is slightly updated and the stone ejectors differ in the pattern between the A/T3W and A/T4W. Towed my 17.5 ft. boat up 10km on a dirt forest service road that climbs 500 m and they never skipped a beat. Great traction in 4wd. On the way back, without the boat, I rallied it hard and was very impressed with handling and traction. They are supposed to be excellent in snow and ice but that won't be for a few months. I recently put AT3/Ws (not the 4s) on my 2018 4Runner, and I love them. They have completely transformed the on road performance of my truck. Before these, I had Nitto Grapplers, which where terrible, and constantly slid in all conditions except dry. Then, after reading all the reviews, I spent the money and put a set of A/T3Ws on. The A/T3W has not slid at all, and I've been in various road conditions. They are also giving great feedback, and I can tell when I am getting close to losing adhesion. Highway cruising performance is also very good. Very highly recommend the 3W on the 4Runner. Oh, and they look good, too.

      So I have the same feelings that you just described coming from Ridge Graps to the AT4's. Feels way more secure and planted, especially in rainy conditions. I had to drive in a snow storm about a month ago with the Ridge Graps and I felt like I was running slicks almost. We are in a warm spell the last couple of weeks, so no snow to try these in yet, but hopefully there will be soon. By the way, I had a 2016 4Runner before my Tundra, and I miss it a lot! I’ve been interested in these tires. Didn’t know they came out with a at4w tho until this video popped up.
    Had the Toyo at3 prior. Had 5/32 left with 70k miles on them out of 13/32. Did great on dry. Was quiet. Smooth. Rain performance started taking a huge hit. Snow did pretty decent. Went a 45 degree incline with 6 inches of snow without much struggle until about 30 feet. Also started dry rotting less than a year and chunks started to be missing.
    Currently have Baja boss ats. So much better in performance. 10 ply instead of 6 ply this time so they are heavier and ride rougher. I’m sure the 6 ply’s ride great. Average 1/32 per 10k miles. Currently have 90k miles on them. 7000 pound Denali and tow often as well. Do extremely well in snow. Don’t struggle at all and tested it on the same hill. Truly do phenomenal in everything except the noice is getting louder and throw rocks like crazy a gravel driveway. Only 2 complaints but they are aggressive. Was very quiet for 50k miles. Toyo sucked extremely bad in mud. These do phenomenal even with a dual axle 16 foot trailer. Keep in mind the Denali also weighs 7000 pounds from the added stereo weight inside (not your average system as I have 20 grand into it). I do try to keep it a pavement princess but job sites and the land fill in the back prevented that. (Conditions like your going muddin)
    I hear nothing but good things on falken. The 8 ply is 12 pounds lighter per tire and been thinkin about trying it. 57.7 pounds on the at4w. Baja boss at 10 ply is 70 pounds on the mt website.
    Wanting to also try the new bfg ko3 but bfg shows no signs on releasing it in more sizes and customer service department is trash with any help.

    • @PottersWork
      @PottersWork  7 месяцев назад

      The Baja Boss was on my final list of 3 or 4 tires (I had some Baja MTZ's years ago and liked them). Seemed like people liked them in the reviews. Ultimatley I was looking more for a quiet ride and I saw more reviews for that on the Wildpeak At/3's...Falken is advertising these A/T4's at the same noise level, so I am hoping that is the same. I was also looking specifically for a 34" tire and that narrowed it down even more. Seems like you had pretty good luck with the Toyo's too, those were my 2nd place decision...only because of increasing road noise and less aggressive sidewall according to reviews.

    • @jwatt95
      @jwatt95 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@PottersWork yeah that’s why I’ve been looking more into ko3 and falken at3w. At4 is listed on simple tire. More road oriented and also 8 ply instead of really heavy 10 ply. 6 ply I feel like won’t be enough and 10 ply is over doing it so 8 will be perfect for my needs.
      I didn’t like the ko2 at all. Especially on wet roads. Ko3 I’ve heard does great on wet roads now and improved on other areas.
      The Toyo at2 was trash imo. Sucked all around and only lasted 25k on a 02 4Runner. At3 definitely did do better.
      I’m pretty certain I’ll try out the at4w if bfg doesn’t release the ko3 in my size. 275/55r20.

  • @eriknash8783
    @eriknash8783 7 месяцев назад +2

    Falken site says your tires are 68 lbs so right on the money with what you weighed them at. It's also worth noting you could go to 285/75-18 which makes it a 10 ply and the weight is the same or even slightly lower than what you bought. That is the size I'm targeting for my Tundra TRD Pro. Bought the truck used with 17K miles and already had Nitto Ridge Grapplers fit in this size. I'm at 26K now and the tread depth is looking pretty low. Also, I have to get these rebalanced every 3-5K. They are smooth after balance and then start vibrating around 1500 miles or so. Garbage tires, if you ask me.
    I'm looking forward to trying these. I would go Duratrac but they don't make the size I want. Have 285/70-17 Duractracs on my wife's 4 dr Wrangler and she is getting over 80K out of a set and we live up in the mountains so she is driving up and down the mountains 6 days a week for work.

      @PottersWork  7 месяцев назад

      I have had the exact same experience with my Ridge Grapplers…I rotate and balance every 5k miles and they are smooth for about a month and then get rough again.
      I have a +18 offset wheel on my Tundra, so the 285/75/18 was most likely going to rub even with my mods. So was just trying to avoid a BMC if I could. Getting these mounted as we speak so hoping they don’t rub lol. Currently have 33.2x11.25 on it now in the nittos.

      The older I get, the more I just want a quiet ride lol. I didn’t used to care as long as they looked cool and got me through the mud. These are quiet, look pretty tough and are still fairly aggressive, so I think it’s a win.

      I had them on two vehicles. A 2002 Toyota Sequoia and a 2013 f-150 both v8s. I didn't notice any weight issues. They balanced just fine. In 5 years between two vehicles never had any issues. My concern with the at4 is its made from a different compound that gives you more milage. That will mean a harder tire so less traction for off road.

    I bought a cheap little taco for maintaining my cattle fence a few years ago with a set of at3w on. I passed them off as some “cheap knock off tire” didn’t give them much thought. They made their presence known. I was used to plugging tires from sharp rocks and devils thorns. That’s what happened with my current Nitto’s…after 20k they are really loud, and I’ve rotated every 5k miles religiously. I honestly think they are both excellent choices, and the lower weight on the Toyo is a big plus. I wish these were lighter honestly

      This is interesting. I'm building up a '98 Ford Ranger with daily driving and forest service roads in mind. I know it's not a fuel efficient vehicle but it can still have a fighting chance. So much so that instead of running the steel wheels that weigh 27 lbs, I'm sticking with the stock 15x7 alloys...they weigh about 20 lbs. Looking between the 31x10.5 Falkens and the same size Toyo AT III's, I'd be about 7 lbs lighter per corner on the Toyos. That would allow the 4.0 engine to accelerate the truck a bit easier and efficiently. Lots to think about!

I currently am running a 33.2x11.25 tire with a 2.75" lift with no rubbing (I did heat the plastic fender up with a heat gun and pushed them out a little though). My lift is bilstein 6112's on the top setting by the way. These new tires are only about 3/4" larger diameter, so I am hopeful there will still be no rubbing. I think the stock TRD rim would actually work better with it's higher positive offset. Would be less likely to contact the body mount and front fender when turning.

As far as how they ride, I have them on a 2016 Tundra and they ride nice. They are surprisingly quiet for how aggressive they look. They balanced well for Discount Tire when they installed them as well. The only thing I don’t like is the weight…they are pretty heavy and I can tell, but I also went from a 33” to a 34” and a wider tire as well, so some of that feeling might just be having a larger tire. I did lose about 3 mpg in town, and 2 mpg on the highway. My computer isn’t calibrated for a larger diameter tire though, so that mpg drop might not be as bad as it’s showing.
