I've gone through 2 sets of AT3Ws on my FJ and loved them. They were great in the snow. I was about to buy a set of AT4Ws until I watched a couple of reviews about how they weren't that great in the snow. I'm in Seattle and do a lot of rain and snow driving. I went with a set of Nokian Outpost nAT's after watching some videos about how great they are in the snow. I did a long road trip, backroads, dirt roads, and Interstates, to Moab where I aired down the Nokians for some wheeling. They were stellar for the entire trip and exceptional in the rain. Now it's snowing and I've been able to test them out in slush and some hard-pack snow. They're very good so far. I want to get them into some deeper snow for a better test, but so far I feel like I made a good choice. Cheers.

Thanks for the honest review and double thanks for talking about sidewall ply, which no one does… especially channels that are actually selling the tires. I think a lot of people see reviews about indestructible sidewalls and have no idea that the tire they’re gonna buy, in the size they’re gonna buy it, doesn’t have that and nobody along the way gives them the information they’d need to know it… especially not BFG. Falken, on the other hand, does a great job and provides a downloadable pdf for all of their tire sizes… and the 285/70/17 is C rated with duraspec sidewalls, which I’m pretty sure means they have the extra plys that wrap from the tread around the shoulder and part way down the single ply sidewall(also available in E rating at the same weight?)
Between watching the video and typing this, rapidly lengthening, comment I finally put my waffling to bed and ordered a set(E1), to be installed on Thursday! It was the wet weather on very western Washington looking roads footage and feedback that did it… and the indestructible sidewalls;)

I've had 315/70/17LT AT4Ws on my bronco for about 4k miles now and absolutely love them. They seem a bit quieter than the ko2s I had previously, but they are significantly heavier with the 3 ply sidewall. I've taken them in deep, soft sand, mud, rain and some minor rock crawling and they've handled everything with ease. So far I'm very impressed

I've had my AT4Ws for about 5500 miles and they're by far the worst tires I've ever owned. I've had 3 tire shops try to road force balance them and they can't. The original local tire shop who installed them gave up and won't help me anymore. Mavis said they were fine, but not great. Toyota service said they were bad enough to recommend a whole new set of tires because they couldnt get them within spec and they're helping me making a warranty claim.
They cause my entire 4runner to shake on the highway, not just my steering wheel. Been shaking since about 500 miles. And all the driving/suspension components were confirmed to be solid/tight by my dealership. (I've actually had really good luck with my dealers service unlike some other stealerships)

Great Review.. I LOVE the AT4w tires. I had the 3w on a 2020 Tacoma ACab 4×4 & now I have 2023 Tacoma 4dr (heavier truck) I put the 4w's on & they are perfect. Went up from 265/65/17 to 265/70/17 so 1inch taller tire. They mounted/balanced better then the 3w. Ride better. Excellent in rain (NorthEast/NE). Not loud. I might have lost 1/2-1 mpg compare to the STOCK Toyo Open Road tire on the new truck from factory. About 6000 miles on them now & they still look new with no wear (will purchase gauge soon)... I did have 3w's on 2020 Tacoma & with only 20,000 miles they were worn more then I wanted to see & they didn't ride as good imo... NOTE : I do not use these wheels/tires in snow (I have steelies with studded tires for NE snow season) so I can not comment on driving in snow... One would think harder compound will roll easier & if the tire is heavier it would balance out if factoring MPG. Im getting 23/24 MPG with a 2023 Tacoma with 500lbs of tools & gear PLUS my 200lbs body. No complaints. Great tire. Will return here at 20,000 miles & update my findings

I say this since I live in Canada 🇨🇦 and with alot of winter ❄️ months, minus 20 to minus 30 Celsius is very common even to minus 40 for short periods, so far from things I'm hearing I would probably still get them when the version 3's wear down. Having a Rubicon Jeep Gladiator with 4:10 gears I don't see an issue with going from the factory 285/70/17 to a 285/75/17 it is possible that the additional sidewall span and 5 psi down the performance might still be quite acceptable, haven't seen any testing that detailed yet. Interested in these tires. Question: How do well do they stay balanced, and how would you compare them to the new KO3's? My scenario; F-150 towing a travel trailer, so I'm 85% highway towing with only about 15% mild off-road driving on forest roads and trails while exploring from campgrounds. I've had Ridge Grapplers (better for off-road) and Toyo AT3's (good wet performance but hard to keep balanced, for some reason). Summary: AT4W or KO3 is what I've narrowed down to comparing. The one that is solid with staying balanced and always providing a smooth ride without having to go back to get re-balanced is the winner, for me. Thank you for your input. Cheers! Cooper is owned by Goodyear.
The Stronghold is almost identical to the Goodyear AT's
I've had the Goodyear AT's in the past, and they have always been horrible, especially on heavier pickup trucks.
If you have them already, and they work for you, that's great.
      I'm just expressing my observations.
If you don't have them, Toyo, Mickey Thompson, Falken and Yokohama make really good all terrains.
I just put 6 Falken AT4's on my F350 dump truck.
I'll be installing Mickey Thompson AT's on my pickup truck.

If you don’t get much snow, the Toyo Open Country AT3 are also a good choice and they are light. I do think these are a great all-around performer though

I have a 2016 4Runner with an ARB Summit Bumper and 10K winch so pretty heavy up front. Do have Old Man Emu heavy springs and shocks and Icon upper control arm up front and medium springs and OME shocks in the rear. Looking for anyone's experience with and recommendations with Falken Wildpeak AT4W 285/7/17 in SL or C load. For the amount of weight up front, I'm concerned about the SL not being stiff enough side wall, but also C load adds 10 pounds per tire. But I'm just as concerned about the potential of a tire puncture issue on trail with SL load. Appreciate any advice.

How much worse is the gas mileage?

For me about .25 mpg better mileage on a 480 mile trip (I’m in a 3/4 ton). So basically the same as my Tremor Wranglers.

      @Zack7228 Месяц назад

@@ShelbyvsViper Hi…may I ask what kind of MPG you are getting? I have a 2022 F350 Tremor…just recently put 285/75/R18 (stock) AT4W’s on while in Montana (no sales tax)on a trip to Glacier NP. I immediately noticed about 2.5 mpg drop and thought I was in a very long regeneration. I had been on the fence with the Duratrac RT…62lbs verses 68 and slightly less rolling resistance. Well….drove all the way back from Montana averaging 15.9 for the trip with a light (1400lbs) pop up camper. I was getting 17.3 or so on way up. I typically run 65…I’m in no hurry. Anyway…I was in process of exchanging at Discount for the RT’s…and I kept trying to figure out what was different, because I really liked the AT4W’s. Quiet….and planted on road. Longer story shorter…I have always used Archoil every fill up….however…just before getting these tires put on, I had used another, cheaper, additive. I got home and added the appropriate amount of Archoil for fuel I had in tank and drove a 125 miles with hills, and secondary highways. Damned if I didn’t get 20 mpg for that trip per computer….which is what I have always used. I was empty, no camper, pulling a small utility trailer. I never thought that I was getting any improvement on mpg with the Archoil…just lubrication. All that to say….i guess I am sticking with the AT4W. I’m glad to hear it’s about the same as the Duratracs which is what I had on.

better treadlife due to harder compound and increased tread depth, which is also why they wweigh more. Smoother on road due to thicker exterior tread blocks, wwhich is why they're also more stable in cornering. Gonna be nearly impossible to compare snoww performaance without a back to back comparrison in identical vehicles in the same snow. Should theoretically perform worse in packed snow and comparable or better in deep snow.

Great video. I was so happy to find your video where you've run these things in every condition for some time.
I find ALL A/Ts and M/Ts lousy in the snow/ice (interior British Columbia here). Deep dry snow (+10 inches) that no one has molested is a dream with M/Ts. But as soon as it gets polished, they are useless. As you mentioned, it has to be the hardness of the rubber in pursuit of mileage.
I'm spoiled by always running sipped snow tires every year. But it's a pain in the hoop to swap and store tires twice a year. And I always worry what is hiding under the snow ready to punji stab the soft snowies.
So I'm looking for a replacement set of tires for my Excursion. Your video has given me confidence to go with these Falkens. I've been banging away at the world wide interweave for months agonizing over brand, type, size and cost.
Contrary to your comment, I've found them to be closer to the cheap side of the curve for 235 85 R16 @ $275 Canadian (Black Circles Canada.). I'm swapping out KO2s that I found completely vanilla and horrible in snow. The mud aspect of the Falkens concerns me as I've been spoiled by running Firestone M/Ts on my Suzuki Grand Vitara. Those tires are unstoppable until you slice sidewalls with sharp alder stick left over at ground level in forest burns. I've done 2 this year.
    Thanks for the video!

It is only heavier if you get the "Duraspec" tire variant.

The dura spec ones are good for durability, but they are indeed heavy. I went from load E 285 general grabbers to load C 255 at4ws, and they are just as heavy or even a bit more. It's crazy how heavy they are
