I greatly appreciate your advise. A stylist flat ironed my hair and in a few days it was a dull orange. I've been trying to get my silver back for two months.
Great info. I just started graying and I've always used Natural Black Soap to shampoo, but it's dark brown. Can you suggest another shampoo...also, I have traditional locs- 10 years in. Thank you!
I'm so sorry BCbyYah! I thought I responded! This is late but you can use a purple shampoo on your new growth -- Shea moisture has a great one! I think its Purple Rice Water. You wet your hair, apply the purple shampoo the roots or to the grey. It won't bother the remaining naturally colored locked. Then you can followup with any moisturizing shampoo (because your locks are mature) -- TGIN, Design Essentials Almond and Avocado, Camille Rose, and Shea Moisture all make great shampoos.
Thx for another great video! I greatly value the information you share and find it very helpful. I definitely need to be more mindful of color of some of the products that I’m using.
Hello Karen. I never thought about oils, hard water, changing the tone or color of my natural gray hair. Does it apply to relaxed hair as well? Thanks for the heads up!
Hey there! Henna colors the hair red/orange anyway so these don't apply because the hair is no longer gray, so you don't have to worry about discoloration.
@@4Seers Good question! I don't think it affects grey in terms of the color as the heat temperature and distribution is much different from hand dryers -- the hand dryer absolutely can cause yellow tones particularly with repeated use.
Now I thought it was that was well, burned hair, but the I used the similar heat level as with the non gray clients, and the hair was fine. I learned that I needed to use more protector and reduce the heat as the porosity level of gray hair is different as well we didn't need to same amount of heat. Thanks for responding!
@@KarenofCurlHouse so I can use Oils I buy at a grocery store to be able to apply on my hair - interesting! I can only think this.... on a hot day and I don't have a hat to cover my head... would that cooking oil start heating on your scalp?😥
Jamaican Black Castor oil definitely turned my silver strands yellow.
I use Sweet Almond oil & Coconut oil primarily.
I've used all the oils, and it didn't affect my greys. It does help seal the moisture greatly.
Thank you Indria! i don't have much of an issue from many oils as well. And yes -- GREAT GREAT GREAT for locking in moisture!!
Good info. Your hair color is Gorgeous

Nice to know before I become full blown or even 1/4 gray.
At weeks from 48 I only have a few small strands of silver and white.

Do these suggestions apply if you color your grey with henna?

@@KarenofCurlHouse Hi Karen, do hooded dryers affect gray hair like blow dryers, as far as the yellowing effect?

HI Ms. Valerie! I see it and will respond soon! Thank you!
After I wash my hair, I used conditioner call bantu
Oh yes! My client used to bring in that conditioner for me to use! I am familiar with it and it certainly keeps the yellow away!
Yellow from flat iron ..burning is more like it

It’s the hard water where I am- or it’s medication for some- you should use heat protectant #licensed1998
The oil is this a cooking product? Or look at hair product oils.
Hello there! It’s not for cooking … it’s just bulk sizes. It’s for hair.

Are you wearing a wig. I do not see any grey?
I sure am! And my gray is still very much so underneath it 😂
