    I am 59. My chemical-process free hair is about 40/60 gray and just 3" short of my waist. I do my own hair because the stylists in my area seem to be more skilled at working with artificial hair (weaves/sew-in's, chemically altered hair) and very little knowledge/experience working with Black hair longer than your neck. I was raised on Ultra Sheen (the green one for xtra dry hair) and I swear by it to this day - especially in the warmer/humid months (I live in Michigan) when any form of heat styling is a waste of time. Thanks so much for the information on gray hair. I have also used Matrix and Joico purple shampoos with great results.

    As a person of West Indian heritage, I KNOW you can use hair grease on your hair. I have no idea who started this rumour of hair grease being bad for the hair, but in the UK, most of us know we can use hair grease. We all grew up getting our hair washed and 'plaited' for school. All the girls would have a brand of hair oil in their hair. Some of the more well-known brands were (and are still used today) Blue Magic, Ultra Sheen, Stay-Sof-fro, Dax Pomade and, although not a typical hair oil, Luster's Pink Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion; which was very commonly used.
    I will also point out that back in the day, there were very rare cases of hair loss or damage. If there was any damage, it would be due to problems of the scalp that was already there, or complete misuse of the product ie using it to straighten your hair and frying your hair or even using it with a hot comb when your hair had just been straightened. I'm sure there's more, but all in all an excellent product that moisturises, seals in moisture and gives a great sheen to the hair.

      Hey there! Thank you so much!! Actually … I don’t really prioritize my skin 🤨 I use something over the counter - Aveeno I believe 🤷🏾‍♀️ I do drink a lot of water 💦 so that helps. But honestly I’ve always had pretty good skin

    Thank you Karen. This is my first time watching your videos. Since menopause. my hair has been out of control. I have fine hair, surprisingly, the oils you recommend for the scalp is basically what I use. I don't care what I try my hair is like I'll fly away. I don't care how many times I comb my hair it is still the same old song. Is there anything that I can use to bring it under control?

      I used to use fresh aloe vera and it itched my Scalp as well. I still use it but let it soak for at least 30 hours to get that "itchy poison " stuff. Big difference no more itching!

    Castor oil is very tough on my brittle hair. So I use it in smaller amounts with coconut oil. My hair is going through menopause so it seems nothing helps it externally..😢. Working from the inside out now.

I have had Sisterlocks for 5 1/2 years and have washed them every 2 weeks sinceci got them. Sometimes just more often. I have never had scalp issues once and my hair is niw bra length. Thanks for the tips. Btw I never stopped using castor oils or grease. ✌🏾

    Lady Karen, this is very informative. What of avacado oil????

    • @KarenofCurlHouse
      @KarenofCurlHouse  Год назад

      Hey Maria! Avocado oil has a comedogenic rating of 3 so its on moderately likely to clog -- I think you can use it to seal the hair but would be mindful on placing it on the scalp. But it's on the borderline you can try it as some things work for some and not for others.
