Hi Karen, I really appreciate your help. I read that essential oils like rosemary, peppermint & lavendar are good for encouraging hair growth. What are your thoughts on them? Thank you!
Bayyybayyyyy!! I NEVER stopped greasing my scalp. I absolutely love hair grease and currently have about 8 doggone jars of Blue Magic grease because I just KNEW, the price was getting ready to go up because everybody started back using it 😆
I have been using Royal Crown for years. It works for me. I use it very lightly on my scalp. I have tried all of the new products and always return to Royal Crown😊
Thank you for this video! I knew about most of the oils. I was happily surprised about hair grease. We all grew up having our scalps greased. It may time to return to our traditional ways. 🥰
I am 59. My chemical-process free hair is about 40/60 gray and just 3" short of my waist. I do my own hair because the stylists in my area seem to be more skilled at working with artificial hair (weaves/sew-in's, chemically altered hair) and very little knowledge/experience working with Black hair longer than your neck. I was raised on Ultra Sheen (the green one for xtra dry hair) and I swear by it to this day - especially in the warmer/humid months (I live in Michigan) when any form of heat styling is a waste of time. Thanks so much for the information on gray hair. I have also used Matrix and Joico purple shampoos with great results.
I used Joice and Matrix in the hair salon. Excellent products. Now I certainly remember the Ulta Sheen from back in the day --I even remember the SMELL. 😂 It certainly keep the hair soft and nourished and locked in moisture.
I had kinky hair growing up as a white girl. I hated being different. It would be so nice to have to the help you give here. My hair might have looked good lol 😆
I was surprised too re hairgrease. However, when Curlbox was still around they had Cream of Nature products and included was a small jar of hairgrease. It kind of shocked me because as a natural we were told not to use hair grease. Sooo now thanks to you we know we can.❤
I don't have an oily scalp or skin for that matter. I haven't oiled my scalp in 30 years however I do put a moisturizing oil on my hair. After I stopped oiling and grease my scalp my hair started to grow longer and faster
Thank you for this information. It explains several things. My mother used grease on my hair growing up because I pretty much lived in a pool and the chlorine dried out my hair. I haven't used grease for more than 15+ years and my hair is fine, long, softer than cotton and curls up with the mention of any moisture. With YOUR help I will FINALLY learn what to do with my hair. THANK YOU!!❤️👍
🙌🏾. I will use it to seal in moisture sometimes but it doesn't quite so well with my wash n go. I'm not a big oil on the scalp type of girl but I remember my mom used to slap a ton of grease on our hair and scalp back in day! 😂
I was dealing with hair dryness now that I have more gray hair. I tried all hair grease and oils and I found that grape seed oil have done wonders for my hair it made it manageable and I noticed that my hair is super soft especially my ends. My hair was hard to keep moisturized.

Mrs. Karen…Thank you for this video on the hairstyles, but also could you make a 3rd video on how to wear your natural hair with Androgenetic Alopecia with no hairline or edges?
As a person of West Indian heritage, I KNOW you can use hair grease on your hair. I have no idea who started this rumour of hair grease being bad for the hair, but in the UK, most of us know we can use hair grease. We all grew up getting our hair washed and 'plaited' for school. All the girls would have a brand of hair oil in their hair. Some of the more well-known brands were (and are still used today) Blue Magic, Ultra Sheen, Stay-Sof-fro, Dax Pomade and, although not a typical hair oil, Luster's Pink Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion; which was very commonly used. I will also point out that back in the day, there were very rare cases of hair loss or damage. If there was any damage, it would be due to problems of the scalp that was already there, or complete misuse of the product ie using it to straighten your hair and frying your hair or even using it with a hot comb when your hair had just been straightened. I'm sure there's more, but all in all an excellent product that moisturises, seals in moisture and gives a great sheen to the hair.

Yes! Rosemary oil is excellent for growth! This video was more so about carrier oils. I did talk about Rosemary in the video I just posted actually ruclips.net/video/HtEzyOu1DPQ/видео.html

I used to use fresh aloe vera and it itched my Scalp as well. I still use it but let it soak for at least 30 hours to get that "itchy poison " stuff. Big difference no more itching!
Castor oil is very tough on my brittle hair. So I use it in smaller amounts with coconut oil. My hair is going through menopause so it seems nothing helps it externally..😢. Working from the inside out now.
Hello Beautifull Karen. Watching you from Maputo.😊 Iam also very surprised about hair grease. I have been running away from it. So usefull and informative video. Thanks a lot. So what about amla oil? Thanks a lot from.
@@KarenofCurlHouse I have fine, high porosity hair. The high porosity is from birth, not chemical damage. How do I keep my hair moisturized throughout the day, after applying the initial moisturizing products, in the morning? I hope my question is not confusing. Thank you for any suggestions you may be able to provide.
Who told you to only wash your hair once a month wuth Sisterlocks!!! That is definitely mis- information . I have had Sisterlocks for 5 1/2 years and have washed them every 2 weeks sinceci got them. Sometimes just more often. I have never had scalp issues once and my hair is niw bra length. Thanks for the tips. Btw I never stopped using castor oils or grease. ✌🏾
I got an F before I did the research myself! LOL! I will do a tutorial on this hairstyle either this week or next year. It is so super simple. Just a satin band and a few bobby pins, but again, I will record it and post in the upcoming weeks.
Thank you darling for the insight 😊 I love coconut oil as a pree poo amazing also with Indian Ayurvedic herbs . Shea butter I use it on my face and body after my shower it’s just amazing . I think I will use jojoba oil to oil my scald also I will try olive oil . Can I mix both oils with Jamaican castor oil ? Pls help 😊many thanks 🙏
Also can you leave these oil on the hair for 1 week until Wash day ? It’s winter soon and I live in uk London so I will be putting my hair up in a bun as a protective stile . Which oils will be better to oil my scalp ? Pls help thanks🙏🕊🤍🙏🥰
Hey Maria! Avocado oil has a comedogenic rating of 3 so its on moderately likely to clog -- I think you can use it to seal the hair but would be mindful on placing it on the scalp. But it's on the borderline you can try it as some things work for some and not for others.
We have been lied too by the RUclips community! I’m gonna go buy some hair grease, castor oil and Shea butter!! 😅

Hey there! I had to look up the location of Maputo! Thank you for expanding my geography! Amla oil has a rating of 1 so its a go 🙌🏾
This was a very informative video. Thank you for providing this information.
You are very welcome Terrell! Glad you found it helpful!
That's what my locitician suggested 🤷🏾♀️. And I've heard that from others as well, so thank you for clarifying this for our community!
@@KarenofCurlHouse I am also a sisterlock Consultant , and natural hair care consultant..
@@bf1822 We need you!!!!!!!!! Your knowledge is so needed our community.
What about rosemary? I use it to stimulate in conjunction with castor oil?
Great video! Looking forward to part 2. You Rock! Thx!
I will rock on! LOL! Thanks a bunch!
So enlightening and I got a D on my test when guessing. Thanks for sharing. Do you have a tutorial on what you use to pin your updo? pretty 😊
I got an F before I did the research myself! LOL! I will do a tutorial on this hairstyle either this week or next year. It is so super simple. Just a satin band and a few bobby pins, but again, I will record it and post in the upcoming weeks.
How do you find out the comedegenic rate???
Hey Lynn! I just googled it. Just goggle comedogenic rating for hair oils or oils and you will see several sites that provide this information.
I will definitely try adding the herbs! Thanks! And yes - you can mix both! 🙌🏾
Lady Karen, this is very informative. What of avacado oil????
Hey Maria! Avocado oil has a comedogenic rating of 3 so its on moderately likely to clog -- I think you can use it to seal the hair but would be mindful on placing it on the scalp. But it's on the borderline you can try it as some things work for some and not for others.
