I used to own a Gold Wing.
It was the best car I ever owned.
A great stereo too.
I was just going to say I always thought the gold wing (1974 to current) was Honda’s attempt at a car on two wheels (or more as I’ve seen sidecars on gold wings but they might have been aftermarket...)
lol, what do you drive now?
The slim limo
I still do and it still is
Fortnine: The only channel convincing people to buy old discontinued bikes.
The bikes do a pretty good job themselves. Fortnine is just making them more visible.
@@tomrevere9091 well i didn't want a pc800 and now i do and i also knew they existed.
Gee, haven't you guys started a Fortnine Collection too? It's all the rage. Just buy every motorcycle that is approved by our Polite Canadian Hero. Aw, come on.... I can't be the only one???
Really would like a KLR
I remember lusting after one of these.
Not all of Honda’s ideas turn out to be winners, but I have always admired their willingness to push the boundaries and try new things.
Absolutely
Not in my country, everything here is basic
So much about motorcycles is just fashion. You can make a motorcycle better in every way, but motorcycles attract idiots. Proof: Harley owners.
@@truantray any cruiser bike to be honest

Not for everyone of course. I’ve owned two, and gone coast to coast on them. To me the PC800 is the most practical motorcycle ever made, and Kudos to Honda for going out on a limb on this one!
If it only had a sixth gear...
It's actually a very good looking motorcycle....

Me too that was great 😁👍🏾
It's so New Retrowave
Yeah, I can leave behind some of the equipment but, like you mentioned, the vibe is okay. It lacks a slickness that I like.

That trunk is a massive flex. Honestly, I'm intimidated.
I thought he was gonna pull out a live fish, like its an aquarium.
It's such a good idea
Hello intimidated, how are you?

Today, maxi-scooters have pretty much taken up the segment the PC800 was aimed at. Powerful urban commuters, car-like comfort, and most of them would make discrete touring bikes, as well.
i still yearn for a s-wing 125cc.
that's what Honda PCX 160 is
I am 55 and a maxi scooter convert. I love bikes, but maxi scooters just feel right.
That transition at 0:50 was so good I had to rewind 4 times
I found this chanel this year and is great, I like the guy how explains things and the production of the video is Top Gear's level
Absolutely! This is great craft. Is the vlog an oscar catagory yet? If so, the Oscar goes to F9.
I just wrote a comment on how brilliant the production was on this video. It’s top notch

I'm really digging this 80s commercial vibe. His production quality for a RUclips video is nonpareil.
Right down to the 4:3 format, right?
Because this channel is a professional production company and Ryan works for them.
@@robinwammack218 It's literally Ryan and Aneesh making the videos... Says Aneesh is the only Cinematographer & Editor right in the description.
"For a youtube video". You know this is not a teenager with a cracked iPhone 3 shooting, it's a full-on production team behind these.
The 70s - 90s music and much other stuff were very good. It made them feel like your really there. These times where motorcyclists enjoyed riding next to the driver.
And the best part? Everyone sharing the road with everyone :D
This is the greatest motorcycle video I’ve ever seen!
This is the greatest crossover I've ever seen. It's always awesome to see when one high quality creator acknowledges another. Keep up the work RCR, I love your videos.

Some kind of crossover episode?
The fact that you recorded this whole thing in 4:3 just to keep the vintage feel is true dedication 👏👍
I love the Pacific Coast. It's basically a hyper-refined, ultra-relaxed sport-touring bike, and it has a distinctive personality because of how unusual it is. The quietest person in a group is sometimes the one you remember.

Back in the eighties, I tried the Pacific Coast when released. And I liked it a lot. Except two major things :
1 Body panels are very fragile (I'm very surprised you found one with all panels and I'm sure they are heavily repaired )
2 This bike is unable to ride up a sidewalk without scraping the bottom, even less than a sport car. (see n°1 for result)
Every single video of Ryan's feels like a cinematic documentary. Amazing!
Most motorcycle reviews: glorified bike commercials
Fortnine bike 'reviews': pretty much art
if these were locked to a subscription i wouldn't even be mad
well this channel cannot make spoil us making us appreciate F9 more but MCcommute is pretty organic not to mention tech talks with Aaron
@@IvanGarcia-ug7mf I love Zac and Ari, but even for the on 2 wheels episodes, with undoubtedly much larger budget and more crews, the production quality is still not as good as F9 reviews IMHO. I will go as far as saying that this channel is 100% on par with the production quality of Top Gear in its glory days.
@@tilio9380 I couldn't have stated it any better . If I had 400k a year money I would definitely help fund F9 lol
As a owner of a PC800 I am very pleased to see this video, great job.
And where do you live ?........... just joking
Keep it, I really miss mine. I had one of the first 200 built and it had the factory Honda/Kenwood stereo in the trunk, amazing bike.
I bet in about 5 years a bike museum would happily display it.
@Moto Guzzi I'd never call someone's bike ugly, keep that kind of crap to ourselves. It is an opinion after all, I always liked the way it looks, like off of Buck Rodgers or something.
@Moto Guzzi Wow - It is unheard of nowadays - a discussion on an elegant level! I am in a positive shock! - additionally, as the owner of a Honda PC 800. I must admit the Author was right - (because I had a Honda CX 500 with a transverse engine like in Moto Guzzi, and then HONDA NTV Revere) - in PC 800 the problem of transmission of engine vibrations was eliminated, which unfortunately caused me in Revere numbness of the hands after driving 200 km. It's hard for me to say if the PC 800 is ugly - because I always dreamed about it as a young boy and now, as a 50-year-old, I finally realized it. I have to say one thing: in terms of engineering, this bike is well thought out and it is a pity that like other models it was not simply continued and modified - today there are no motorcycles with cardan shaft and hydraulic tappets in the class below 1000cc - and I basically do not see a motorcycle today for each other. Cheers!
Honda started the push to infiltrate the car driver market in 1986 with the introduction of the Helix CN250 scooter. The first scooter with "feet forward" riding position (sitting really), glove compartment, handbrake and a boot (trunk). It was so successful that it remained in production until 2009 in Japan. Very comfortable and capable of long distance touring (at 70 mph top speed) and surprisingly agile despite its very long wheelbase (1,625 mm)
I have owned many motorcycles, most were Honda's. I even owned a PC800 for a while. It is the most comfortable motorcycle I have ever had the pleasure of sitting on at 70mph. Your videos are entertaining, thoughtful, humorous, educational and inspiring!
(imagine applause here)
Loved mine too!
"The whole thing is as blank as a teenagers search history"
Me: *laughs in incognito mode*
Thank you for not calling it a "scooter"!
The Honda PC800 is one of the greatest failures of the motor company
Mine was a craigslist rescue and has delivered miles of great transportation
thanks for seeing it's charm
Most scooter riders would hate this thing! It has a clutch, gears, a seat you have to swing a leg over, and it weighs 640lbs. Very much a motorcycle to ride... just with a bunch of plastic and storage. ~RF9
@@FortNine There's no hard line between "Motorcycle" and "Scooter". Like certain crowds proclaim, it's a continuum. I've got both a PC 800 and a Burgman 650 in my garage. (And a Ural. No, I'm not normal) The PC is a motorcycle edging toward scooter and the Burgman is a scooter edging toward motorcycle. (And the Ural is a Ural).
A friend had one of these in his bike shop several years ago on consignment, it took a really long time to sell. He just called it "pig vomit".
@@FortNine Would be interested after seeing this 1989 attempt to create a car-drivers bike, how it compares the next-genesis of that attempt where European Union allowed for three wheel scooters to be car-licence compliant. Like the Peugout Metropolis and the Yamaha Tricity series where they go for stability 2 wheel front forked frame.
Honda hasn't jumped into the EU car-trike-scooter market yet, they did pitch a concept called show model the Neowing, which looked more Spyder than Goldwing.
Thinking people with cars, would like to tour on a bike/trike rather than lane-filter commute... that said, maybe just easier on the old retires tail bones.
@@Mishn0 it certainly was a continuum before , but now even manufacturers had brought it as a new segment of 2 wheelers , and are actually mass-communicating this very thing.
A similar, later built bike was the Honda Deauville. Got one and love it for everyday rides or an easy 1000km. No plans to ever sell and no worries that somebody might even think about stealing it . . . ; ) the only missing part from the PC would have been the hydros- however when I checked the valves 'way over schedule'- all were spot on : ))
Great video!
I ride a 1993 Honda Helix and like to think of my bike as a mini goldwing. In terms of design principles, it’s got a lot in common, with the weather protection, long wheelbase, cushy springs, and heavy body. Lots of fun to ride and so comfy.
Got a helix too and would totally agree. Auto box convenience though 😊

That pivoting front caliper is the coolest piece of motorcycle tech I’ve ever seen, that’s how you keep it old school with new school tricks.
I’m not a motorcycle guy at all, but I watched several of your videos..
Top notch production quality!
I commute to work on an 89 pc800 every day. Great to see F9 previewing it.
Glad to see someone else is still commuting on one of these. I alternate between my '89 and '90. In the winter, if it starts, it rides. As long as no snow is falling!
How many miles on it?
I have to admit that the front brake and suspension trick really impressed me
Anti-dive brakes were the big thing in the late 80s. Every manufacturer had them on some models in their lineup.
My NS400RF has it - TRAC - Torque Reactive Anti-dive Control.
It didn't work well.
The production value/ content of your videos is unmatched. My favorite 2wheel info page for sure. Keep it up!!
Ha! This was my very first motorcycle. I didn't even intend to buy it. I went to the Honda dealer to get my lawnmower blade sharpened. I saw the bike and it was the best new deal on the showroom floor. Honda had discounted the last units by $2,000! I didn't even have a license yet. The dealership delivered it to my home while I signed up for the MSF course. My sportsbike loving friends laughed at my "scooter", but with nearly 700 pounds of weight, an 800 cc v-twin, 5-speed tranny with clutch and shaft drive, it was the real thing. Really comfy for the interstate. Loved the trunk. Learned some new things in this video 24 years later! Didn't know the trunk had a drain plug! And didn't know about the pivoting brakes/suspension feature! And yes, my eyes were drawn to the 2 mentioned successors to the PC800 mentioned in this video too!

Im honestly considering getting a motorcycle licence to use this as a daily communer to replace my car (im not looking to collect bikes either), the look is so sleek and its a perfect fit for what im gonna use it for (going to work, visiting cafes and the movies) and its super cheap used. So hey, thanks so much for letting us know this bike exists in the first place and reviewing it, your vids are the best. im still on the hook on being a motorcycilist so ill take me some time on figuring things out and learning what to do.
Maxi scooters offer the same conveniences and function. I have a Yamaha Tmax for the same purposes you listed. Keeps me dry during a rain shower, warm at 45 deg f, lots of space under the seat for helmet and riding gear or two bags of groceries. Look at the Honda Silverwing too. Wish you luck on your endeavor!
I had it from 1999 to 2014. Then I sold it to a delighted buyer (because it has become a very scare machine here in Germany). It got too heavy for my advanced age > 70 (purchased a Daelim Roadwin, half weight, half speed, which I love). A wonderful motorcycle. Never had a problem with it, during 80.000 kilometers. Suspension like a car, and on full acceleration the air burned :) .
Dammit Ryan, last time you did an 80's themed review I ended up buying a Gen 1 KLR. Don't attack my bank again please.
Haha! Same here!
And people who have a Pacific Coast still love them. It’s a cult motorcycle.
saw one in a shop down here in south alabama, the owner brought it in for a tune up before riding season. The mechanic parked it inside until he had time to work on it.
My brother traded his in 25 years ago and still has withdrawal symptoms.
I have an 1995 one out here in Spain and I love it. Ultra reliable, comfortable good two up and excellent luggage carrying. If you get a chance buy one a future if not already classic 😎
I had a red one!!!!
It seems to me this bike combines both disadvantages of a car with disadvantages of a motorcycle... :D

The Pacific Couch never died.
It just morphed into the Silverwing 600 MegaScooter
Was thinking the same when I saw it from behind in the footage of riding shots!
Well it really morphed into the Deauville.
Sadly the Forza 750 is not even close.
Still a shame they re-use the name Silverwing for a scooter.
The Silverwing from the early 80's was much nicer to look at.
A "mini goldwing" with a v-twin engine.
Those drived smooth too with airsuspencion and comfortable seat
@@wilfredprins9718 The CX500 was Honda's first v-twin - it's something to look at for sure. I think the most collectible are the CX500 & 650 Turbos. I'm with you, I always thought the GL500/650 mini-wings were cool.
No matter what happens in this dark world, it's always a wonderful day when F9 uploads.
Traffic congestion solved, your'e welcome.
What a understatement April 2022
I just picked one of these up from a dealer new me who had it sitting on their lot for a few months.
Absolutely awesome bike. Great weather protection, tons of storage and good power. They have a cult following of people that have had them since they were new, and I got the only one for sale in my state! If you find one around, consider picking it up.
Ohhh that motorcycle is so 80s all over!
And it even has that distinctive 80s and early 90s Honda small engine startup sound.
My first car was an '88 Accord, but Civics also had the same -- as in exact same! -- sound!
I rode one once for a few hours... Convinced me!
Reasonable power, decent handling, low maintenance, decent fuel capacity. The reliability of an appliance, basically the perfect all-around bike!
Completely utilitarian and totally my dream bike now...
Thank you for a great reminder.
Do they fit any of the trike kits?
Back around 1991 I sold motorcycles briefly. Honda offered a huge bonus to the salesperson who moved a PC800. It was a practical motorcycle, but it said “I AM my father’s Oldsmobile”. Also, the DN-1 was nicknamed Do Not Order One in some dealer circles.
The DN-O1 was an awesome motorcycle with crap styling. If Honda had stuck that engine package in a standard cruiser, it would've sold.

Props to the camera man, love the lil detail at 6:42 of Ryan being blurred and a crisp bridge showing and then back to Ryan. It's can be a pain to change the focus like that
Definitely a smooth move, but easier than you'd think. DPs use a focus wheel with a 'whiteboard' on the side so you can set your marks for pulling or pushing focus. Once you set your two marks for Ryan and the Bridge, you just turn the focus wheel to the mark for the Bridge and then back to the mark for Ryan. Pretty clever, really.

Brilliant report , great video, Ryan, you’re the master, I’m looking forward to your first full length movie...this Honda is not my cup of tea but it certainly introduced or reinterpreted a lot of ideas which we can see still on a lot of modern bikes, usually big ones, built in crash protection, enclosed engine , improved maintenance and luggage capacity., in hindsight it doesn’t seem so outlandish just slightly out of fashion.

Before I traded up to a big bore cruiser, I had a Honda Shadow (it was what the PC800 was underneath the tuxedo). Fantastic bike, handled great, completely reliable. Several family members had them, several friends had them, nobody had anything bad to say about them. I was considering other bikes until I ran into a guy who had clocked over 300k on his. A week later I bought a Shadow 750. You just can't kill that bike.
@@eurogryphon Same for the PC, multiple examples are around that have 300K on them.
Old bikes like 80's Nighthawk had 4 cylinders, auto valve adjuster, auto cam chain tensioners, shaft drive, pretty much maintenance free other than oil change. You don't find such features anymore in decent powered bike.
Exactly! I'm trying to decide which bike has the most charm and the most opportunity to turn into something cool.

The upside of an URAL is you'll never have nothing to do anymore!
How do I know? Less than a year ago my buddy replaced his Yamaha with a Dnepr freightship anchor, which is the same as Ural, but better, but worse. He's only had to replace the final drive gears, entire wiringloom and several electric components to make it reliable-ish. Now he's gearing up to remove the gearbox to fix an oil leak.

Ryan lad loved that piece. Aneesh’s glorious audiovisual mood genius makes it though. It makes everything ten time better.
A buddy just sent me the link to your video. Not sure if I saw it a year ago when I started researching PC800s, but now that I have an 89 of my own I am surprised there was no mention of the wind-up-your-pants-legs effect nor the limited space between peg and shifter for heavier riding boots. You are are absolutely correct that it is more like driving than riding and I have to remind myself that I am on a motorcycle and to keep an eye on the tachometer because the engine is too quiet to use sound to determine shift points. Still, of the three road bikes I own, the PC is the one i most often hear quietly calling my name from the garage.
The quality of your videos is always improving! Keep up the amazing work and team.

You kind of captured it, but what so many find is that when they get old enough that their Goldwing becomes more bike than they need, they often switch to a PC800. Its makes a good light weight touring bike, that is still practical around town. One thing missed in this presentation is that while it is slow, all the power is in the bottom end, so you never have to shift. You literally can go around 90 degree corners in 5th gear. And that is what makes it a great commuter bike. You never need to shift, so the driver effort close to nil. In many ways, as it is rediscovered, it is more popular than it was when it was brand new. And yes it will corner - I've dragged a knee or two around corners - it is still light enough to do that.
Feel like my vespa gts300 fulfills a similar if slightly more urban centric though still good for touring role... love my bike so much, getting a big windshield a riding apron that attached to the body and covers your lower body and a big top case, super excited. Been riding scooters full time for over twelve years and they’re sooo practical I just won’t daily anything else!
This channel is the best thing on youtube. The guys overachieve in every aspect of production.
This is incredible fascinating all the new things implemented in bikes . Thanks For inspiring me to ride !
It ain’t exactly new. The thing was released in 1989 after all.
It had self-cancelling turn signals in 1989... respect. ~RF9
@@FortNine ...so did my 1973 RD350 🙂
@@FortNine my gs 1150 Suzuki had self cancelling turn signals in 1984. Actually, it still has.
I'd argue that maxi luxury scooters are exactly that. Like the Majestic, Morpheus, PCX and so on. At top trim they feature cruise control, stereo speaker systems, full upholstery, trunks in some cases, ensconced and backlit dashboards, remote lock and start, and some of the more modern ones are gyroscopic-assist. Perhaps not what the average motorcyclist is looking for, but would sweeten the transition for car drivers.
Edit: I'd like to add that this video was a true work of art, the synthwave, wipe effects, aspect ratio, coloring, VCR-style grain and audio mixing were a delight!
Production level is next level. What a beautiful bike.
