Hello, I have a ps2 slim console. While playing games with a USB memory stick, I experience constant freezing and lag in cut scenes. I don't want to open the console and connect a hard disk and I don't want to buy an ethernet router. So do you think I should connect harddisk with usb or ssd with usb? Is there a freezing, lag difference between the two or do they both give the same performance?
SSD will make no difference. Ps2 is 1.1 USB (Ancient!!). It's data transfer speed limit is on the hardware itself. I wonder if there if there is a way to hard mod the USB port, though...

I think you might have mised the following part What's the difference between the different installation modes? --------------------------------------------------------------- Installation types: Normal - For your PlayStation 2 and similar models. Normal, cross-model - For your PlayStation 2 and all models within your region. Normal, cross-region - For all PlayStation 2 consoles, from all regions. Multi-installation - For all PlayStation 2 consoles, from all regions. Uses controlled filesystem corruption to save space. A long time ago when FMCB v1.8b was just released, only the multi-installation mode existed (other than the normal installation). It allowed users to make an installation of FMCB that worked on all consoles within the same region by introducing crosslinking (controlled corruption) into the memory card's filesystem. The multi-installation of v1.8C and later allows cross-region installations to be done, but still uses controlled filesystem corruption. That was to save space, as older FMCB installers used to create about 20 crosslinked files, due to the developers not knowing which exact boot ROMs will look for version-specific update files. However, with the discovery of exactly which boot ROMs will look for version-specific update files, it was found that only a handful of PS2 models actually have that behaviour. This practice was changed later on at boot ROM v1.50. With the smaller binary size coupled with the fact that only a handful of duplicates are required, the amount of space required for a cross-regional installation without crosslinking was greatly reduced. A normal cross-regional installation does exactly the same thing as a multi-installation, but duplicates the FMCB binary instead of crosslinking entries. It's safer and does not go against the design of the memory card filesystem. --------------------------------------------------------------- Since your using FMCB v1.953 I would recommend A Normal Cross-Model or Normal Cross-Region install since this will save space and be a safer option
Hello and good day. I just purchased a FMCB on ebay fully loaded with apps and emulators. I connected it into my ps2 and connected my usb drive to my ps2 and at first after starting the OPL application it would just go to a black screen. So i tried running opl without my drive connected and it started up. I was able to change my setting like you did then i reset my console now when i try to run the application it just shows the start up screen that says OPL get it free at ------------- and it just shows a loading icon and does nothing. Please help!

My fmcb is stuck on logo when booting it up with external hard drive (its from laptop btw) and when i boot using usb flashdrive its working and i can play games. I want to make external hard drive to work so i can put many games its 500gb. edit: I fixed it! format your external hdd from gpt to mbr and fat32 and yeah ready to go like a usb flash drive.
Yeah any fat PS2, it's just some of the slims, 9000 models and higher that apparently don't work, but if you got a fat ps2, just get yourself a free mcboot memory card and your good to go, you can burn discs or use a USB/hard drive
@@payitahtahmet1720 That is probably going to be the route I go as well. My modem is sitting on my desk so a 4 foot ethernet cable is all I would need. I could even install a USB 2.0 thumb drive onto my router to store games, as USB 2.0 does have a transfer time higher than the PS2 optical drive.

Only recently i found out what is possible if you hack a Wii U. Now i've put the homebrew channel and loads other stuff on and i can play so many old classi games 8-) Now i found my old ps2. Gonna do just the same thing so i can play all my old ps1 and 2 games. Why let those consoles catch dust if you can still play them...? Although i dig the new HD stuff too (got a ps2, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch) but as a kid from the 80s i love older games too

You can boot games off an HDD now? I sold my fat hard modded ps2 a while back, back in the day I had to burn every game I wanted a back up of. Recently, I procured a slim with a Joytech screen for free. With the little screen AND a hdd with the games on it will be perfect for moving from room to room/taking on holiday, so I think I'll definitely do this, thanks a bunch!
I had to find an alternative to format hard drive to Fat32. I pulled this off with "Miniaid Tool" to format. I format my M.2 SSD 120GB drive. Using a M2 to Sata adapter. Games load a lot faster.

That's 100% due to the power consumption and not the actual size. It's not booting up because it's too much for the USB.

How do you play .bin files? Some ps2 games are not DVD like icon, half life and intellivision lives. Those three download as .bin not .iso
Convert .bin to .iso. No need for .cue
