I'm not sure how I ended up doing this at near enough midnight, but thank you kindly! The DVD drive I had lying around didn't work, but I did have a laptop DVD drive which, after some soldering shenanigans, I managed to get working with my SATA USB connector 😂

I hope one day the PSX DESR 5k/7k variations get custom firmware and unlocked hard drive support. Fingers crossed. Mine has FMCB, but its not the same level of wow factor as a PS3 60gb with CFW.

@@ArchadesGames hey! when i am trying to download, for some reason, it is being saved as a compressed file, similar to how the funtuna folder is downloaded, instead of a single iso file as shown in the video, and that’s what is confusing me.

So this method works on Japanese ps2s as well? I was thinking of importing a japanese ps2 over to America and wanted to soft mod it so I can play American and Japanese games on it.
Does it matter if the bios battery is dead or not? given my Slim is over 20 years old now and I've never opened it up I'm sure it's probably dead by now. I know my Fat one (modded) is dead as the time is always at the year 2000 when it starts, games still boot though (via actual discs not emulation). I'm keen to try this in near future, I did buy a couple extra official 8mb cards a couple years back so I'm thinking I should be good.
So went diggin around the old stash boxes to find my Slim.. scph-90002, so I may need to fish up a battery if thats the case. Never opened up the case before though so hopefully I dont mess anything up ^^;

FMCB can be installed via BOOT-DVD, I can also navigate in the menu, but as soon as I select something, the screen remains black. do you have any other ideas that I could try?

@@ArchadesGames I did a little testing and some models of the ps2 do not like the free dvd boot burn from imagine burner so you have to use CDburnerXP at 1x write speed kinda weird

I've come to accept that my 2009 slim ps2 is not moddable. But are you saying that every slim PS2 has a mod now to play any ps1 and ps2 game
Anything compatible with OPL and
PS1 games can be done with a swap trick and burned discs.

I know the new IDE emulator from the guy who made the 3DO ode supports PSX HDD emulation but that's about it as far as the HDD goes.
Id assume if i want to still use the console as intended, id just have to install homebrew on another mem card?

Why do you need the dvd-r? Cant you just copy from usb to memory card?
Because you trigger the exploit with the DVD. How do you expect to copy things from USB to a memory card on a stock console?

You are extracting the iso if it is giving you those folders

Less is better but if you are buying another card may as well just get a premoded one.
I have a chipped PS2 console, but also soft modded as well to play dual layer DVD games.
My chip does not run those.

You can but USB 1.1 is too slow for most games so you will have performance problems. Network loading or ESR patched discs is better for slims

No. And you can update a premade card from the PS2 because it is already exploited.

The 90 series can only use FunTuna so you will need to do it yourself with this method
