Well isn't this the usual. You see, the program you offered worked like a charm. And after listening to other youtubers, who are blithering fools, some with a high subscription count, a smaller user gets the job done. All of the other programs I downloaded, hdldumb, as well as three others, all were garbage. Oh it wasn't for lack of skill, simply bad directions, and bad advice. Now my 2TB 2014 HGST, and my 2TB Red WD are up and banging, thanks to your offering and advice. Much respect for actually knowing what you are doing, seems to be a rare thing these days, going out like the dinos.
You might actually have skipping on the FMV cutscenes that many games play, just double check. But yea the custom cases would be sick, gotta make it yours!
I have a slim PS2 and a MC2SIO memory card to play games with a micro SD card. I tried playing games with a flash drive but since the PS2 uses USB 1.0, the games load too slow and FMVs run choppy. I used to have a fat model but not anymore. I might consider getting one to play games off a hard drive.
So I just bought a ps2 scph-50002 model for doing the HDD mod, does it really only take smaller drives and not the one used in this video? Great to know as I was about to buy the parts.
Planning on doing this soon and i have a question. Ive got the fat model and will put in an hard drive, but can i use the memory card/sd card and store and run games faster off that?
Can you not save games with the FMCB cards you buy online? That's crazy, I've made my own FMCB cards with Magic Gate Certified cards and save on those all the time.
I think you can because mine has a crash save on it lol, but why not just put another memory card in slot 1 and save your games on that. How long will you be able to save on the FMCB one before it’s full anyways? Eventually you’ll need another memory card for more saves
@@RetroRivera If you have enough saves that you're buying a second memory card, might as well use the space that's on your FMCB card since you'll pretty much always have it plugged in
@@deadringer8050 As the other guy said, you can't. You could make a partition to store your saves on it if you really wanted to, but you can't save or load directly from itso you'd end up spending a lot of extra time moving files around
Many thanks for putting this video together. I was having trouble creating the +OPL partition. I'd previously formatted the drive, had come out of the HD Manager and had then gone back in. If you do that the system won't allow you to create that partition. Watching your video I saw you created the +OPL partition straight after formatting the drive. I did that and bingo, I could create the +OPL partition. One question - have you had any luck with HD Loader? The main reason I installed my Seagate Barracuda drive was so I could rip my own PS2 originals to the hard drive. I load HD Loader up, put a disc in, the PS2 recognises it but when I select "Install", the machine just displays "Initialising" and the progress bar doesn't move. Keep up the great work!
Hey there, I wasn’t able to figure HD Loader out myself! I tried it a little bit but couldn’t get it to work. I just figured I’d stick to booting everything thru OPL, hey, if you figure out how to boot using HD Loader or how to rip the games from your discs to it, give me a heads up in a comment! Glad I could help my friend!!!
Hello! I'm having trouble. I followed all your steps but when I am in OPL and I select a game to start, all it shows is just a black screen and the game never loads up. Do you know anything that I can do about this?
In OPL in game settings there are different modes. Try enabling them to get your games working. Also enabling PAD emu or Virtual Memory Cards can cause some games not to work. There are also a few games incompatible with OPL, but may work on HD Loader.
CAN ANYONE HELP ! ! ! ! Hi Chris. Doubt you'll see this but I'm out of ideas and am not a tech savvy kinda guy. I'm a mechanic lol . Anyway I've got 2 PS2 consoles that have been under my bed for 10 years. Recently I've got back into playing again . 1 of the Consoles has an original harddrive with around 40 games on but my nephew scratched the crap outta the HDD disc that I need to load any of the games & now it won't load. Is there away to access these games now I'm missing the disc. If you or anyone who may see this can help please reply back on the comments here. Thank you .Matt
You could try buying the freemcboot memory card online and launch OPL from the browser menu (it’s like an app), see if the drive is recognized and the games list would be there to launch. Can’t guarantee that’ll work but it’s worth a shot the memory card is like $20 bucks
Unfortunately not, there’s ways of modding slim, but the problem is when you USB load, all the cutscenes (FMV full motion vid) are all laggy. Look into the memory card mod with an SD card built in, scroll down in comments it’s called like x miso or something like that. Orrrrr, hit a garage sale and find a big boyyyyehhhh fatttt 👍🏼
Should i leave the FMCB memory card in the mc slot 2 if i finish everything? I mean keep it while using hdd drive? I hope anyone reply please. Thanks! 🫶🏼
All this work and risk that comes with modding is not worth it in my opinion. Last year I have purchased a few PS1 systems and all my ps1 favorite games. Around 12 ps1 hard copy games own in total. Few days ago, I purchased another two ps2 system bundle with 5 games that came with the purchase. One ps2 fat model & one ps2 slim. Both are on the way with UPS. I repurchased in advance all my favorite ps2 resident evil games. All hard copy games own in total 14 plus ps2 games. All for cheap around $100 dollars or less for each bundle like the guy mentioned in this video.
Depends what you’re after playing as there are more games being less accessible due to price increases which aren’t reasonable anymore and purely for collection purposes.
@@RetroRivera So really wierd I formatted my drive through the freemcboot install app in Ulaunch and then installed FHDB aswell so after I booted my PS2 with no memory card I opened OPL and boom it created a +OPL for me Haha these things are so tricky

Take a look at latest release 😜
You don't need to make a +OPL partition. After you initially start OPL, it will automatically make the folders.
This is correct.
I left it unallocated because the drive "couldn't be read" by the WINHIIP program if it was formatted. I'm using a blue WD 500G.
great tutorial, got the RsoD and this was a great work around
as a modder myself i'd make that thing the beefiest ps2 to have ever lived. custom casing, beefy cooling and an ssd for slightly better loadtimes
SSD won't speed up what is already capped at 66MB/s
@@TheRathead80 well latency improvements are still a thing

How did you get all your ps2 games?
Where can I download games in 2024
perfect guide, thank you!
Is there a way to add artwork afterwards?
I get confused because I don’t want them on a usb I want them on the hdd
I think you use the USB and transfer it over to the HDD within OPL buttt, it’s confusing I could never figure it out. Comment back if you do tho 👍🏼

Hey bro is there any way to create an internal memory card on the ps2 hard drive like we can on ps3?
Thanks mate
The PS2-home website seems to not be working
So, can I already use a memory card with data on it?
Is there a way to setup the HDD on a laptop without having access to the Sata cable and power cable?
Yes, with a SATA to USB cable or a 3xternal USB case for HDD SATA.
Can you do also a video with the opl themes and different art works for games
check Blaine Locklair on youtube. he has tutorials on it. but you may have to use WinHipp, and idk if it will recognize the 2TB HDD
Can you do a tutorial on how to delete games off the harddrive?
join this discord discord.com/invite/BVp9Rka and ask Matías in the ps2 channel, he coded the program. He will answer you ! cheers
