Not sure if it was formatted properly to begin with (I did it on Mac OS), and then once it was formatted properly I think the USB just plain sucked - it would mount, but I couldn't see anything in there, and then when I could see something in there it would disappear (it was the USB stick - Kingston - grrr). After I got that sorted out (8GB SD card with a card reader), my issue was that OPL would black screen and freeze. Turns out I ran out of room on my Memory card and the full ELF file wasn't there. Oops! All good now!

Thank you for this. When I was a kid, I used to have the fat ps2. Brand new and within two years it stopped reading discs. As a kid I didn't know how to fix this so my parents got me a slim and i swear the slim never gave me any problems. Lasted 7 years. FreeMCboot hasn't been patched on 9000x models, Sony just disabled the feature to update the PS2 system files using the Memory Card. A modchip will reenable this feature on a 9000x model, and alow you to boot homebrew off the Slot 1 MC.
I tested the freedvdboot patcher on my backup ISO...and try it on my SCPH 70001 model ps2 without any install memory card hack or modchip... IT work's like a charm!

All these "new updates and features" are actually developed for the real OPL-Repo.

@@MrMario2011 77001. I get wary with difference i think I'd mess it up
I dug up my ps2 slim to do this, it was rusted out but worked fine, installed opl and made a nice menu of games like you... and after playing GT4 for a bit (heavy game) it crashed and doesn't work anymore!
Lol, moral of the story, don't abuse your old electronics in the middle of a heatwave x)
Stay cool out there!
Easy, just need a couple of items...
Shit, where is my Dad's old memory card?
THX for sharing the knowledge!
FMCB, FHDB, FDVDB need to be appreciated by a bigger audience, harhar! 🤪
Just tried to play the FreeDVDBoot disc with VLC.
It crashed 😂
Perfect.

Fantastic tutorial. Very easy to follow. Thanks for making this!
Every time I try this I get the message " please insert a PlayStation or PlayStation 2 format disc. Please help. I have a fat PS2 and I burn jest like I saw.
I burnt the disk at speed 1x and it still fucking dont read it :(((

you're a freekin' legend. Thanks a lot man ; it worked perfectly : )
I hope this help someone. I'm with a fat PS2 - 39001, DVD Player 2.12 . Once you get on the FreeDVDMenu (the gray one) and executes FReemcboot's .elf if you got a blackscreen, try to unplug the USB driver and put it in back. That solved the thing for me.
thanks a lot !
you are a saint. thank you
You're welcome, glad to see that my comment helped someone else c:
i have the same model, i can wait to try it out.
You're a damn saint! I was thinking my USB was bad even after reformatting to fat32. I don't understand why it works, but you're awesome!
Thank you for this.
When I was a kid, I used to have the fat ps2. Brand new and within two years it stopped reading discs. As a kid I didn't know how to fix this so my parents got me a slim and i swear the slim never gave me any problems. Lasted 7 years. As I reached adulthood I had to sell all my games and consoles because I was struggling financially.
Flashforward to 2020 I buy a used fat ps2. It also wasn't reading many discs AND the power supply died. I looked up how to fix it and replaced the power supply (as well as calibrate the laser). It's running great, except it has the occasional disc read error.
Upon discovering this softmod I burned all my games via HdDump(b) into a 2T hard drive. Also saves some wear and tear on my games and the laser.
Beautiful. The best stories to hear are ones like this.
Im keep getting the „unable to read disc“ screen after trying to launch the CD
I’m having the exact same problem
@@causingit6946 I am having the same problem but I heard that you need a DVD-R instead of a CD-R
Fantastic videos. Ive followed just about every one of your video's on jailbreaking. And now, because of you and my wallet I bought a PS2, and freemcboot. lol. Can't wait to do this
LOL amazing, very awesome!
I've been watching your videos mainly all day just so I don't brick anything. Quick question. I've got a scph 50001. Capable of this?

I already have my first ever fat ps2 (SCPH-3900X) that i owned since 2004 which already has free mcboot and OPL with a 500gb SATA hdd, so i didnt need to worry about my dvd player not being compatible anyway
I have the same PS version as yours and mine doesn't want to read the dvd....... it sais the dvd could not be read........ I tried burning up another one with the same result. Help
I think you need a DVD-R
Wowww i will try it in the weekend hope to reborn my old slim ps2. Thanks a lot 🙏
I burned FreeDVDBurner into a DVD-R at the slowest speed possible, finalized the disc, but my PlayStation 2 detects it as a PS2 disc. When I reset PS2 (or entering through the Browser) I get a black screen.

Great. How about using HDD, would that give you a true experience like original game CD without the lag
Even better, as it's faster than CD or DVD!
Thanks for the tutorial. It's well explained.
Btw, will you make tutorials like that one for HDDs too?
Already did
I'm trying to copy and paste my OPL file from USB to the memory card and every time launchelf freezes. I tried swapping memory and USB slots but its just the same. Anyone got any ideas why this is happening?
copied the elf file over to a diferent usb and it worked
FreeMCboot hasn't been patched on 9000x models, Sony just disabled the feature to update the PS2 system files using the Memory Card. A modchip will reenable this feature on a 9000x model, and alow you to boot homebrew off the Slot 1 MC.
Or watch my FunTuna video
ps2 home cant open
Thanks for the tutorial! I just installed it on my ps2 39001 2.12U

YOU ARE THE BEST MAN IT WORKS!! ESR FOR DVD GAMES WORKS AND OPL WORKS TOO !!
Hi, so in the compatibility link you sent, my console is listed as "partial"? I got no idea if that means I can or can't.
Partial just means I think the features aren't entire but I have a SCPH 30003-R and it worked even though it was yellow.
In terms of the features I have no idea what your SCPH (BIOS) is I am 100% sure somebody will have made a website or an update because they make it accessible all the time.
@@Markhoss hey, so I finally decided to try freedvdboot,
my PS2 is SCPH-30003 and it doesn't work unfortunately :(
my dvd version is 1.30E but it doesn't seem to be in the Compatibility Wiki under 300xx. So I'm a little confused, but I guess I'm a noob.
Worked without a problem for me. Thanks dude :D
hello if i will install FMCB in my memory card, will my save data of the games will be gone?
everything will by gone cause it will format your memory card
You are right it's really slow playing games on USB, I tried silent hill 2 and it was terribly slow and buggy, thanks for the tutorial though, very well explained
Glad I could help
The website is down what should I use?
excellent tutorial!
to the data in the FreeDVDBoot Compatibility List, my device is SCPH-30004 R FAT, browser 1.20
cd player 1.20
PlayStation Driver 1.10
dvd player 2.10E and there is no completely original modchip. I placed the necessary files in the places like in the video, burned the iso img file to the dvd r disc.
and FMCB installation on the original 8mb free memory card is complete.
Pov: you don't know where to find a DVD in 2022
In Romania you can easily find even 7 inch flopy
Okay, first of all, thank you! I am a complete rookie at all of this and do not understand half of what you are saying, but the steps are so clear and detailed that it's almost impossible to mess it up.
I ran into one problem though, the my PS2 keeps saying "Unable to read disc Error."
Now I have a Fat/Phat Ps2, and it should work because FreeMCBoot says that the 2.10 ISO is compatible with my particular PS2 Phat and DVD model.
What have I missed?
i got the same problem with slim but i bought a better quality dvd and it worked
ps2 fat 50001 dvd 3.0?

I've got 10 or so SCPH-90002 FreeMCBoot compatible PS2's. I'm actually collecting these versions.
Why?
@@MrMario2011 Just cause of the rarity of SCPH-90000's being able to run FreeMCBoot. Only date codes 8A and 8B are compatible.
Obviously not needing an external power brick is an advantages as well.

for anyone having trouble with launchelf not reading your usb, you might need to format it to MBR as it may be in GPT. If anyone needs help message.
Im at a black screen atm. Is that due to it not being read?
I buy consoles at the end of their life because they are cheaper and have the most bugs worked out/typically the best hardware performance, and never before have I been so disappointed to have the latest/greatest model of a console.
