  • In this video I show you how to make this cute top using only one's men's shirt. You will need a shirt that is quite a bit larger than your own size to make this one.

    That pattern would make great summer cotton night gowns. This is a cute upcycle. Thank you.

    That top is exactly my style, I just made a dress that is very similar for summer. Your designs are so practical and pretty. Right now I am working my way through my embarrassingly large fabric stash and this is perfect to use up my odd pieces.
    My husband and I were having a conversation today about how much better quality fabric men's clothes are made from. He has some really old shirts that are in great shape except for the collars and cuffs.

    Thank you! I currently like upgrading men's shirts best. Generally good quality and lots of fabric in the large ones.
    Your straight simple instructions are very good.

      Thank you and men's shirts always have the best value for me too...the most fabric and the best quality.

    Thank you for sharing this, it looks lovely :) I really love the ruffled straps, and could see this as a maxi dress for the summer (if we actually get a summer in the UK 🤔?????).

    I really like this. Was wondering if maybe sewing the back straps maybe 1/4" or so closer together than the front straps might help keep the straps from slipping down while wearing.

      Thank you! The main thing is that the person I designed this for originally didn't like that because then it didn't cover her bra straps.

    Also, at the end, i think you sewed the button placket down to prevent gapping? That's what it looked like, anyway.
    I found a pink and white pinstripe 4X mans shirt!!!❤❤❤❤ so happy😊

    • @SherryJonesDesigns
      @SherryJonesDesigns  Месяц назад

      You can...honestly I don't remember right now if I did or not...ha ha...but it can be done either way. Sewing it closed will hid the fact that it is a men's shirt which some have expressed concern about. Congrats on the the pink and white shirt! That would look amazing!

    This is so cute and feminine! I wish Ireland wasn't so cold because I would definitely love one. Perhaps I can wear it like a pinafore?

    • @SherryJonesDesigns
      @SherryJonesDesigns  3 месяца назад

      Yes, you could even make it longer and wear it like they use to as an apron tunic or pinafore over a dress. It would be so cute.

    Have you thought of turning your ruffle sleeve pattern 90 degrees and cutting it out of the top of the sleeve? two sleeves, two ruffles and save the fabric from the bottom of the sleeve?

    I love it! I'm going to try to copy it, but I do wonder if anyone notices that the opening and buttons are oriented the men's way. I' know I probably wouldn't even notice or care even if I did notice.

    • @SherryJonesDesigns
      @SherryJonesDesigns  3 месяца назад +1

      Just sew it shut all the way down. No one knows then which way it opens.

    Cute! About how much ease do you allow for the band going around the chest?

    • @SherryJonesDesigns
      @SherryJonesDesigns  3 месяца назад

      I'm hoping I understand what you are wanting to know. Please correct me if I get it wrong. I would add at least 1 to 2 inches of extra room for movement to my actual measurement at the bust line. And this garment can be tight to get into. If one has mobility issues, I would consider making it button open all the way down the front.
      You could cut the piece for the chest longer than needed and pin it to the fit you are looking for or that you like.

    I made a pie once, forgot the sugar, the first ingredient!! Now I say that phrase when I'm doing almost anything, and I have found I've made errors and had to correct them!!

      I guess that is how we learn. After all, if I make a mistake and learn something, then it's no longer a mistake but a 'lesson'. .....My oldest sister made a cake once and accidentally used salt instead of sugar.....needless to say, no one ate it.

    Would the ruffle fit on the diagonal???

    • @SherryJonesDesigns
      @SherryJonesDesigns  3 месяца назад +1

      It might but I used the longest pieces for the rest of the shirt and only had sleeves left
