"Der Schwarze Mann" and the associated children´s game called "Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann" (who is afraid of the black man), played for centuries, is based on the medieval representation of the Black Death, thus the death per se. It became later on the bogeyman.
Taking the children´s game, the opening image and the ending sequence, where they are eating "Schaumküsse", (formerly known as "Mohrenköpfe" or "Negerküsse") into consideration, we can be sure, that Rammstein is, among other things playing on the fear of immigrants from another culture, skin colour and/or religion.
btw: in my opinion it is very important, that they are shooting each other after being brainwashed and not the "Schwarzer Mann", thus they became the bogeyman, thus destroying themselves, thus feeding and freeing the fomenter .

Till (lead singer and lyricist) always says that each person can take from their songs what they choose - so your interpretation is as valid as anyone else's. Part of the thing that makes his words so special and at times perplexing/scary/beautiful.

Haven’t watched this yet but, this is the one I was worried about with the translation, the literal black man, the actual meaning of ‘Boogeyman’. I have seen so many reactors react negatively to this song whilst missing the actual meaning. I shall watch now, with bated breath. 😮😊

I think Rammstein actually wants that double meaning because of the right wing firing up fear of (north african) migrants.

Rammstein does not care, if they offend somebody. They talk about whatever topic they wanna address. Which I love about them so much. And of course their great music. Their lyrics are most of the times written in poetry style with double meanings, that make you think. They almost never explain them either. Instead they leave it up to the listener, what they mean. And most of the lyrics also have a witty sense of humor in them.
They have been taking soooo much crap over the past 30 years. Especially from the media. And yet, they do it.
Can't wait for your next Rammstein reaction.

The black man is the boogey man. But I think its clear from the video that it has a double meaning. Rammstein are also alluding to fear of immigrants which is being stoked by certain political factions in Europe at the moment.
That also crossed my mind, but wasnt sure. Definitely is being used to polarize.

To add a bit to the "Schwarzer Mann" (black man):
Originally "black man" stands for a kind of bogeyman (or death) in German. There is an old catch and run children's game. One child is the "black man", starting with the phrase "Who's afraid of the black man?". The others answer "No one." ... "And when he comes?" ... "Then we run." The children run away and try to escape the "black man". When one is catched, it is the next "black man". I guess that's originated from medivial time when the plague (or "black death") killed half of the population of Europe. Infected people partly got a black skin and and children were told to stay away from them.
Nevertheless Rammstein is playing with the double meaning of "black man". Some politicians and media spread fear about refugees comming to Europe. And even though most of them are not black, they might look a bit different and give a trigger to xenophobia ... which those politicians try to use for their own goals. So "crazy" politicians (one of the two roles, Till plays in the video) and indifferent media just seeking for attention are a dangerous combination. (That is at least my interpretation.)

I try, but not hard enough yet. I am not willing to cut of all things online completely, which would be the classic solution of other addictions, that isnt working for our new time... and too weak-minded to control and limit on-time efficiently. So i wrestle my body to get a work-life balance going with under 7 hours of sleep most times. Sometimes 3 hours... I bet it cuts into my potential lifetime.

@@ModoTronic666 We have 3 official languages. Dutch/Flemish (same language as in The Netherlands, different accent), French and German. I speak Dutch. (Sounds a little like Deutsch, but its a different language)
