It actually means fear the black man, the black man is a reference to the boogie man, but I'm pretty sure there were undertones in there about it actually being racial. You didn't notice the black woman and the child in their own separate circle the entire video? I didn't see them at the BBQ with the white people. The undertones of negativity and fear being fed into people by the media? Kinda like how how the Natzis used propaganda to make people fear their Jewish neighbors. I'm pretty sure the "boogie man" part represents whatever crap their being fed making them scared. Not every language has a word that literally means boogie man, maybe you should read more and watch less Rammstein videos.

Great reaction. You got it exactly right.
Some additions that are hard to get for non germany nativespeakers:
    1. 'Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann?' (literally translated to: Who is afraid of the black man / boogie man?) is a german game for children. The boogie man (one of the children) is meant to catch the other children, which turns them into boogie men too. The 'schwarze Mann' in this game represents death.
    2. schwarzer Mann (translated: black man / boogie man) is a word play here. It is used for the boogie man, a nightmarish creature that haunts children, but also as a representation of the 'the others', 'africans' , 'imigrants'. It is a term used most likely by far-right groups and parties to increase fear and hatred.
    3. The crispy stuff they eat at in the end of the video are called 'Schaumküsse' oder 'Schokoküsse' (beaten white egg kisses, chocolate kisses). In the past they were called 'Mohrenkopf' or 'Negerkuss' which both contain racists slurs. Older folk sometimes still call them like that, because for them they are not perceived as racist.

Hello everyone. I'm German and I've known rammstein for so long that I can't even remember when I heard them for the first time. But one thing is for sure, they treat the first topics in their own way and leave room for interpretation, like in this song angst. in which they sing about the black man and no that has nothing to do with the color of the skin, it's about the boogeyman and fear itself. We are so busy in our time looking at our fears and our surroundings (media, radio, etc.) fuel this fear, and in the end we are so scared that we arm ourselves and shoot ourselves because we know nothing but fear. So mega cool the song is so bitter it is, but at the same time honest and real. And every time the cheerleading (Roboots) part comes they say Du = you. which comes from a child's game, here there is a catcher (the bboogeyman) and the other players trying not to be caught by him. The "boogeyman" stands, for example, at the other end of the sports hall. He shouts, "Who's afraid of the boogeyman? ' while his opponents yell, 'Nobody' You're afraid of the boogeyman? Because the ironic thing is we all (humanity) are Black men (boogeyman).Don't live in fear folks, and Don't let the Fear in you.I can't describe it better because of my English skills. sorry

    Just some remarks:
The several times mentioned "Schwarze Mann" ("black man") is known as a child fright figure in the German-speaking area ("Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann" = Who does fear the black man). Depending on the region and time, it was understood to mean different beings: a dark shadowy figure or a man dressed in black. As a metaphor, the "bogeyman" reached a "peak" as personalization of evil, savagery, and the unknown in the course of colonization, and in the process also acquired a racist connotation. In this context, I find the consumption of those sweets (German so-called "negro kisses") at the end during the end credits very interesting, which work through this "black man" symbolism.
Also the colors usage is interesting (Black/White/Red representing the Nazi-color Spectrum). I also found it interesting at the end of the credits that when the TV was destroyed, the color came back into the picture.
Further, I noticed that the pie-like plots seen from above correspond to the "political symbol" at the lectern where the singer, wearing a straitjacket, gives his speech. After these borders & plots collapse during the wild shoot-out, the politician, unleashed by the straitjacket to spread his propaganda/fear.
Cheering on the cheerleaders is the equivalent of pitching an idea/product and the dancers are slammed with money to sell the bricks and guns to the landowners.
This Clip has many layers and can be interpreted in many directions. I see there is a statement on xenophobia and populism/media.

Is Rammstein a right wing band?
Conclusion: Although Rammstein undoubtedly played with ambiguities and right-wing aesthetic references in the course of their careers, they repeatedly and clearly positioned themselves against the right-wing.
The fact that the band is making a statement on racist, xenophobic views is clear given the line of text "Who's afraid of the black man" and the people cooped up in barbed wire at the beginning and end of the video.04/29/2022

RAMMSTEIN - Ausländer Making a satire out of it is the only way to deal with racism.
it was the motif of the refugee boat that framed the music video. Because it starts with Rammstein arriving on an island in a rubber dinghy and it ends with all the band members leaving the island on the rubber dinghy, with the exception of Flake, who is first forgotten and then held back.
Which is a lot of cliché, fits damn well with the lyrics of the song and the associated meta level. Because: On a lyrical level, the song is clear. It's about globality instead of nationality. About the German cosmopolitan traveling abroad. About the German globetrotter as an enemy. About someone who wants to impress the ladies in foreign countries with pseudo-worldly gibberish.
This is exactly what they wanted to emphasize by using authentic materials on both sides, as explained further in the making-of video. For example, Flake's (historical) silk suit still said "Deutsch-Südwest-Afrika", a German colony in what is now Namibia.
Arriving on the island, the white colonialists give Rammstein to a tribe of black natives. And they don't leave out any clichés.
      germany colonies in africa
The German colonial empire included parts of today's People's Republic of China, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Namibia, Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Chad, Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, Papua New Guinea, and several islands in the western Pacific and Micronesia.

Hello Empress, like the other Rammstein songs and videos we get here much room for interpretation. I have the same point like you. Till (frontman) is playing a mad politician who spread fear in the world and the cheerleaders are the supporter. You can see it on the red wire connected with the screen of the folk.
For me the core message is..... Don't be afraid of other people who aren't like you and...... Don't listen to mad politicians :-D
My favorite notice is at the end where Till is smashing the screen and with every hit he comes more back to reality.
Much love to you from GER and Prost
BTW, Till is a poet at heart and nearly every rammstein songs have double meanings. It's hard to understand for people who aren't Germans because the translating in English is most of the time wrong or they can't translate the right meaning.

It brings back colour to their world, but only in the sense that it's back to normal and not challenged anymore.

The cheerleader moves including the chanting in the beginning and the end are probably referencing the "Haka Dance" done by the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. It is supposed to intimidate your opponent. Rumour has it that Oliver Riedel, the band's bass player, is one of the cheerleaders. But that has not been confirmed yet, AFAIK. The candy which the band eats in the end was called "Negerküsse" "Negro Kisses" back in the day. The name was changed a couple of years ago. At the end of the video it turns to color, once the media is shut down your black/white view of the world is gone.

    • @VArsovski10
      @VArsovski10 2 года назад

Oh there are quite a several more references with this video it's absolute perfection if pay attention to details, for example
The dish at the beginning isn't actually a dish, it's live meat (arguably blooded heart) from enemies felled in battle (a common tribal trait)
The DU (meaning "you" in German) being pronounced almost as Boo, representing the spread of fear but also "pay attention"
And I think I love this part the most
The perfect timing of the change of the message from "alle habbe angst vorm schwarzen mann" to "wer hat angst vorm schwarzen mann" (from everyone has fear, to literally who has fear..), perfectly showing the immediate transition from fear and being on "standby" for new news to a total denial (after feeling safe all out of a sudden due to weapons, surveillance, barbed wire, walls)
The shooting at the walls also represents neighbors fighting each other and setting the streets on fire which is also a nice touch cause the very previous lyric was "prophesizing" that ("Schreien feuer in dem Gaste", shout "Fire" on the streets)
And yes the very end showing that there are still people out there that really need help but they're busy fighting each other, but even the social media having "livestream" of people watching their own suffering.. i.e. the realisation of those that suffer (and need help) that there's probably noone out there or they being stuck with their own problem/s (and thought in time backwards)

I wonder what your translation was for "schwarzer Mann". A lot of people say that it means the Bogieman and not the literal translation. But Rammstein puts the words in a clear political context with this video. When I watch the video I see Europe in 2015, many European countries closed and armed their borders in fear of refugees. It's a shame and Rammstein does well to put their finger in this wound.

The black/white can also symbolize the white and black race the red is power and politics. We have racism in the world because of the past political powers making it so, at the end Till ( lead band member) gets up as breaks the tv putting it into a colorful world symbolizing that living in a world of different colors is better then living in a world of hate.
