A very important thing to mention is the guy producing the 'news' wears a straitjacket, which for me implies that the crazy, paranoid, and fearful people tend to be the loudest.
Sadly our news organizations have to compete for our attention against facebook, idle games and cat videos, so they try to get us emotonally involved.

For example: first the 'normal folk' is nice and pretty and 'red-less'. Then they consume the red media and a shot later their faces are smeared and they start to be paranoid.

Let me give my thoughts on this:
1. The song is about how certain "leaders" want to afraid people to control them. In the video, this is visualised by the red wires. Also, the entertainig industry is helping (commercials, online shopping), represented by the cheerleaders.
2. The dominant colors in the viedeo are black, white and red, which are the colors of the flag of the Kaiserreich and the Third Reich. Also, you can say that the world the people in this video are living in, is just black and white, no grey. It can be understood as a reference to the simple minded people who are for example voting for politicians who are telling them exactly this black/white view (WE are good, THEY are bad). Also, the band is dressed up as the stereotype of this kind of conservative people. Did you noticed that the world in the video changed to color when Till destroyed the TV?
3. "Der schwarze Mann" (The black man) is a german synonym for a creepy, ghost-like evil. As in the first verse of the song, children are often told "to obey, or else the black man will get you". It can be translated to boogey man in english, but like often, there is another meaning in this context. As said, the video is about leaders who are seedeing fear of anything foreign in peoples minds. So, the phrase "black man" can also be interpreted literally, namely refugees. In my opinion, it is a reference to the migration crisis in 2015 in Germany,. Or just remember the plans for a wall on the Mexican border...

Love your way to first take on the lyrics and then switch to the musical and visual impressions. I just wanna add one little things not many people seems to notice - the color choice or the lack of color. The people during this whole "fearful" video come in black and white. Only at the end when Till destroys the thing that fed them all the fear (symbolised by the TV) we can see colors and people look like real humans which can't be put in the simple black and white category...

On the other hand, you have seen refugees in the TV before, just sitting there, not being intimidating. The double meaning is that they destroy their TV in order to not see anything about the crisis of the people they fear. After that, as LifeisFoo cleverly observed, everything turns back to color and the red fear they are wearing on their sleeves. And they can continue to eat Dickmann's, which has been called "Negerküsse" in Germany - a term which translates to the n-word followed by "kisses" and people stopped calling it that way, because it's too racist. However, conservatives and alt righters are still mad about it and calling it by the old racist name whenever possible in order to "trigger" those who are "political correct".
If you are from Germany (or the United States) you've observed neo-conservative hatred against the media. In Germany, they call the media "Lügenpresse" (lying press) and identify themselves as "self-thinker" who just consume alternative online media which confirms their biases. I strongly think that might play a certain role in this imagery, too.

The last scene has another hint too… first off you see the black refugees… isolated at a beach…. The „white society“ is watching them while eating whipped cookies… in Germany and other european Countrys the old names of these cookies were racist… in Germany we called them Negerkuss (Negro-Kiss)… then the next scene we see the refugees watching „us“… the first world… eating and living in safe conditions… it shows why many refugees want to come here to Europe… or to the US… and when Till destroy the TV the symbolism is that they want to ignore the „black man“… they want to ignore the suffering of other peoples like refugees because of the fear for them… a fear that is pushed often by right wing medias/parties.
It's all about those layers that's why they are so good.

After listening to the song and watching the video a gazillion times and learning the lyrics a few times more I come to this understanding that "Alle haben/Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann" has PROBABLY 2 meanings here.
The first verse really resembles the game the German kids play. Therefore "Alle haben Angst vorm schwarzen Mann" very likely means "Everyone's afraid of the Boogeyman"
HOWEVER verse 2 sounds more similar to what politicians with nationalistic views, like mad politician Till is saying to its innocent fragile citizens that were represented by the band members who went from happy neighbours to hostile citizens, use it as a weapon for their agenda, and in that case "...Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann" could indicate XENOPHOBIA aka racism because "Everyone/Who's afraid of the black man" which is a major issue in many countries including admittedly Germany and the scene of the refugee mother and child on the dirt surrounded by barbed wire who are obviously Black and seemingly migrants from Africa adheres to that explanation which again Politicians in most if not all Western countries esp in Europe with the Migrant and Refugee crisis not just from Africa but also Middle East use it as a weapon that foreigners will come and get you and take your livelihood away and in the end the mad politician Till celebrating in a mist of red kinda speaks VOLUMES that their fearmongering has worked.

In Italy we also use the character of "the Black Man" ("l'Uomo Nero" in italian) as a threat for children. Actually, it was used more in the past than nowadays (we are more aware of the racist implications of that saying), but it is an idiom for sure. It's been a surprise to find out that in Germany it's the same thing, I didn't know it

It can be read as a commentary on fear of immigration. In Germany, Europe in general, a lot of fear is spread around immigration from Africa, because of immigrants trying to reach our shores from the south. So the "black man" can be taken as the boogie man but also literally. Of course, Rammstein are not racists as you know, but they're highlighting how people are being pushed into being fearful of the other, the guys in the video fencing themselves in, while the refugees at the beginning and end of the video are also fenced in, probably not by their own free will. People fencing themselves in by definition also means keeping people out. And we have a lot of fences going up around Europe these days. It's a commentary on how the internet, irresponsible media shores up fears in people and the cheerleaders could be a reference to the US, selling bricks and guns to people, spreading their influence, not often a good one, across the world.
actually, in germany, it's more about the media and politicians' propaganda that deliberately spreads fear to propagate high prices and alleged scarcity of resources, in that case: corona and russian war

Hey Pandora, first of all I want to say that you are doing really well. First the lyrics and then the song. Added to this is your total emotion and empathy with which you make the whole thing even better and totally capture me, thank you very much for your real and unfiltered feelings. Now to the video. I think, as you say, it's actually about pretty much all the difficulties, problems and above all fears in the world that are shown to us in the video by the media, regardless of whether big TV stations or social media platforms are now being conveyed. So the oh so nice "neighbor" also becomes paranoid, upgrades everything and in the end destroys himself with it. And the end scene with the woman and the child is also interesting. I think Rammstein wants to address the discourse on the subject of immigrants again. The girls/women are also the fears of many in Europe and we only know a lot here from the television, but we are afraid and speak badly and negatively or arm ourselves in any form. Hey there, I saw some reactions now but I really like your point of view on the video! I am sorry i havent subed earlier I will now. First of all Rammstein typicaly use very vague and short sentences so that there is a lot of room for interpretation. And thats what I really like about their lyrics acutally you can never know the bands intention for sure but these word plays are hard to translate. In this track "schwarzer Mann" can be seen as controversial. But what what I really liked about your interpretation was the sentence "knowing more" is a hugh message and which is a problem today because it scares the crap out of people!

You get it. Sociologist Ulrich Bech has analysed it in depth. But as usual there are also layers to it, cause what society/nation does clothes, cheerleaders and automatic weapons remind you of? It reminds me of an awfully divided one, where polarisation and fear and fear of The Other that is their neighbour has exploded in the past years, and where BLM (another kind of "black man) has protested in the time Rammstein were making the album.
Just some remarks:
The several times mentioned "Schwarze Mann" ("black man") is known as a child fright figure in the German-speaking area ("Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann" = Who does fear the black man). Depending on the region and time, it was understood to mean different beings: a dark shadowy figure or a man dressed in black. As a metaphor, the "bogeyman" reached a "peak" as personalization of evil, savagery, and the unknown in the course of colonization, and in the process also acquired a racist connotation. In this context, I find the consumption of those sweets (German so-called "negro kisses") at the end during the end credits very interesting, which work through this "black man" symbolism.
Also the colors usage is interesting (Black/White/Red representing the Nazi-color Spectrum). I also found it interesting at the end of the credits that when the TV was destroyed, the color came back into the picture.
Further, I noticed that the pie-like plots seen from above correspond to the "political symbol" at the lectern where the singer, wearing a straitjacket, gives his speech. After these borders & plots collapse during the wild shoot-out, the politician, unleashed by the straitjacket to spread his propaganda/fear.
Cheering on the cheerleaders is the equivalent of pitching an idea/product and the dancers are slammed with money to sell the bricks and guns to the landowners.
This Clip has many layers and can be interpreted in many directions. I see there is a statement on xenophobia and populism/media.

The cheerleader moves including the chanting in the beginning and the end are probably referencing the "Haka Dance" done by the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. The candy which the band eats in the end was called "Negerküsse" "Negro Kisses" in Germany back in the day. The name was changed a couple of years ago.

Just learnt about the childs play: It exists since 1700 and refers to the black death: the plague or a man with plague. One kid shouts: Who is afraid of the black man (bogeyman) ? Nobody! But when he comes? Then we run. And the bogeyman tries to touch the kids, and those he touched become a bogeyman themeselves.

I think also a reference to the bogeyman is interesting. We have been force fed fears & to be scared of anyone who doesn't maybe look like us or dress like us or whatever. Like here in Australia we've demonised immigrants since the 1800's gold rush when Chinese workers came out. Fast forward to WWII & Japanese people were basically put in camps to keep them out of the community. Refugees from Cambodia & Vietnam war were vilified for trying to start again. And then we come to people being frightened of & therefore hating Muslims & we have had a uptick of immigrants from Africa so like Sudan & people make comments about how they're so dark skinned & scary & violent. Like no matter where you're from, the colour of your skin etc if you're a violent jerk that's in you not your appearance. Poor women having hijabs pulled off in the street & whatnot. I'm not even going to get into the way our Indigenous people are treated. But I mean we also pay a poor country to house refugees rather than let them into the country. At massive expense. If we channelled that into maybe setting then up with a little home & some work opportunities they would have hope but no kids are growing up on Nauru in awful conditions. Because be afraid of the bogeyman. Our idiot pm "we will stop the boats!" & suddenly they were no longer in the news, who are in bed with our current leaders. It's dreadful. They've successfully divided the population with fear of "others".

Something you missed, because it gets lost in translation: In the final scene (the neighbors on the couch in front of the tv) they are eating "Negerküsse" (word by word translation: negros kisses). This is an old outdated name for this sweet (it's marshmallow fluff under a thin layer of choccolate) which only gets still used by people who want to use it to provoke. So there is also a reference to the "black man".

sure, there are people that do it to provoke, but even that does not automatically imply racist thoughts or life views... because when you live long enough you will notice that about every decade words/names that used to be normal are replaced by other words/names, wich in turn will be deemed taboo a decade later to be replaced with other words/names... and so on, and so on. what is deemed wholesome today will be taboo in a decade or so, so why even bother... might as well stick with the things you have now.
at a certain point people decide to not go along with that nonsense anymore. no matter what label you try to put on them as a form of punishment.

Why did you cut the beginning?
We played this game as pupils in school as a phys ed warm up. I agree with most of your conclusion, however i think that the people not so much get this fear by consuming in their filter bubble, instead the fear is pushed on to them by the mainstream and politicians, since they are potrayed as the everyday upright citizens, not some 'tinfoil hats'. Also everything seems to end in a cataclysm, they turn their weapons towards the core, the red stream of fear propaganda and bring destruction to themselfs, almost like a self fullfilling prophecy.

As 6-8 year old kids we always play "black man" on the soccer training. Our Coach stand on one side of the field an we on the other side. Who was catched by the black men (coach) was the looser. At this age i dont think it was a Boogey man, i think a black men. Never saw on in real life before. Greets From weird Germany
one last heavy part in the end, they siting on the couch an eating something, in the past, i think 15 year ago, the food calls in Germany "Negerkuss" oder "Mohrenkopf". I will not translate it, it`s deeply rasict, now it`s not allowd to call it this way in Germany, but in my childhood ist totaly normal. It`s a small cake with some creme inside and chocolate around, you put it in a bun and eat it, as child i eat thousand of this, it was very cheap und you can bye it everywhere, you going to the shop and say " kann ich bitte ein Mohrenkopfbrötchen haben". the game they playing it`s true , but a lot oft kids don`t thing about the deadman they think about Afrikan people as blackman, also deaply rasict, in the past 80` totaly normal, what a shame...now it`s forbidden to call it!!!!!

With the German (well - European) political context in mind , the portrayed example would be the (perceived) escalating refugee crisis. Especially since 2015 - but well before that - certain parts of the media have been peddeling and frankly often overblown storys about people from African and/or Muslim countrys "invading" fortress Europe.
Same as the "illegal immigrant" trope in the US. There are problems - shure - but far less terrible than some media outlets (news media and internet alike) make it out to be.
In Rammstein terms this is one of their more obvious songs - usually their lyrical messaging is much more cryptic.
Seems like they really wanted to take a stance and put out a statement this time.
It's not "uneducated" , it's rather "naughty" or bad.
The starting line of the lyrics should be: „When the children do not listen…“

I notice with many "Reactions" from non-native speakers that it is misinterpreted. One always assumes here a black man, or boogey man. This is not correct if you consider the history and the situation of Germany.
Here it is rather about the entry of refugees to Germany with dark skin color. In the video exactly these racist stereotypes are shown. Older narrow-minded men with focus on their own lives. Everything has to be perfect and refugees don't fit in. Here arises the fear that one loses house and yard to the invaders.
It therefore has little to do with a scary story, but more with social abysses!
On the first sight, it´s a song about the Bogeyman... On a second, deeper sight, it´s a song about rasicm.

i dont think in the beginning you hear "you". I think it is just a sound like "uhhhh" and not the german word for "you" (in german it is "du") because im gerrman and dont hear "du" or "you". it sond similar yes but it is just the sound "uhhhhhh"

That's why he calls "Wer hat Angst form schwarzem Mann?", like the Game! The answer to this is always "No one...", and so on...
And the fear that we've been getting into our heads since childhood is exactly what Rammstein is alluding to.... we were often told as children... "If you don't be good and listen, the boogey man (Schwarzer Mann) is coming for you!" The whole song is practically based on that... everyone who grew up in Germany knows this! And is interpreted into the present time.
