In this episode Brad Wilcox and Kerry discuss the allegory of the Olive tree and all the amazing lessons to learn therefrom. They especially emphasize the gathering of Israel, and the amazing things happening in the Church and among youth today. They explore the role of Christ in the allegory and gathering and the way He nourishes us.
We are grateful for our anonymous donors and our sponsor, Lisa Spice, and our producer, BJ Muhlestein, and for Rich Nicholls, who composed and plays the music for the podcast.

A year ago I was called to be a seminary principal. I have admit that I wasn't too excited about the calling, but it truly has been life changing. These beautiful young adults have given me such hope for the future. Their love and dedication is awesome inspiring.

I was blessed with parents who never skipped chapters. I can remember my dad looking up grafting invisible encyclopedic dictionary, and showing me the drawings from it, when I was about four. My parents were always excited about the gathering of Israel, and I'm grateful for their faith and teaching!

I’m in my 70’s and it’s easy to look back and become a bit discouraged about the rising generation except…I’ve been substitute teaching in a Middle School in Heber, UT. These kids are so good and so interesting and so many filled with the Spirit. They don’t even know how kind and delightful they are. I just love them. This broadcast verifies and explains their goodness and righteousness. They exude hope for me and for themselves. Thanks for the 2nd witness of the hope in the generations coming after.

I watched/listened to this episode and have been so uplifted & so nourished by everything that you both said and taught! And miracles are happening. Our son lives with us - he is coming back to the church and working toward full fellowship - and as I shared with him about the Allegory & what I was learning in the moment, he said, "It's not just Jesus who is the Master, it's Heavenly Father! And Jesus is pleading for US! Wait a little longer, I'll/we'll work a little longer. He wants to gather ALL of us!" For this son the feel this and share this is evidence of our Father's and Savior's love and of prayers answered, and of this son 'casting off the bad as the good shall grow'.
Thank you for your scholarship, your faithfulness, and your testimonies of truth.

These podcasts have really been helpful to me because when I read the scriptures I see them at face value. The podcasts have helped me to understand the symbolism and meanings. During spring break, young adults were dropping by to serve in the Temple as they traveled on their vacation. Bro Wilcox, Bro Muhlesten. I cannot express enough gratitude for each of your contributions to this wonderfully inspired discussion on Jacob 5-6. It opened my heart in ways only the Spirit can do. I am beginning to understand what Elder Maxwell shared his feelings about the Book ofMormon, said he; "The Book of Mormon is like a vast mansion, with gardens and wings. My tour of it has never been completed. Some rooms I have yet to enter, and there are more felicitous fireplaces waiting to warm me. Even the rooms I have glimpsed contain further furnishings and rich detail yet to be savored. There are panels inlaid with incredible insights and design and de`cor dating from Eden. There are even sumptuous banquet tables painstakingly prepared by predecessors which await all of us." F.A.R.MS. Symposium. Oct 10th, 1986 BYU Campus

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing you and Brother Wilcox share your insights. Really helped me see a different perspective and understand the allegory more personally. It was also helpful to hear some of the research data on religiosity. I work a lot with young women and men preparing to serve missions and I find they are so focused on Christ and making covenants as a result of their home centered gospel study. They love the temple and they love the Lord. We are living in a very momentous time.

I love learning about chapter 5 of Jacob! It is very profound and inspirational to learn about the master of the Vineyard and of His servant. His pure love for us can be felt very vividly throughout this chapter❤ On another note, I love Brother Wilcox, he has lots to share and to learn from, yet my question to him is in minute 39:21 when he mentions, 'I want to have children who are going to stay strong and faithful, but I don't want to have family home evening and scripture study.' Is it then our fault if our children decide to walk away from the gospel even though, we had FHE every Monday, family prayer every day, and scripture studies. Wasn't Father Lehi constantly and faithfully sharing the gospel with his children, yet two of them walked away from it? I believe I know the answer, but when saying what he mentioned, it makes us wonder, the ones who have some of those children who chose different ways, to question, did I teach correctly? were we fun enough when we were teaching them? What could I have done better to help them?

I am so glad you enjoyed this, and that you have enjoyed so many of the things Brother Wilcox says and does.
I don't think he is implying that FHE will solve everything and keep everyone from straying. That is clearly not the case. What he was saying is that if we want something good, we need to do what the Lord asks. That doesn't take away people's agency, but we can't expect that extra measure of help and protection when we don't do our part.
Of course no one has been perfect in FHE, or anything else. I think he was just trying to encourage us to do what we have been counseled to do if we want the blessings that are associated with them. Even those blessings can't force people to be good.
That is my sense of it anyway. I will ask if I have explained it somewhat correctly.

@@TheScripturesAreReal Thank you for your reply. I do understand what you are saying and I believe it too. It is just sensitive to mention that by doing everything in the gospel and what the church teaches us to do the results should, be all children active. Besides that, I loved the discussion! I felt the pure love our Savior has for us, His children, he never gives up working in the vineyard, even to the end. We can learn for our own personal vineyard within our family to never give up. Thank you Brother Mulehstien!

What I love are all the young adults serving in the temple. Previously it was rare to serve in the temple unless you were retired. I couldn't even be endowed until I got married. The only way all these temples could be built in Utah would be if the staffing can be satisfied and this is possible because of the young adults. As a youth I could only do baptism for the dead once a year. Now the youth can get recommends that they can carry with them and go as often as they can. I rejoice in how policies have changed to increase the love of the temple.

I so much enjoyed listening to your podcast on Jacob 5 that I'm now listening to it for the second time this week. Thank you for your insights which I have found to be so instructive. At about the 30 min mark, the discussion centers around Assyria and Babylon as the poor spot of ground and the ground poorer than the first. Why don't we hear the conversation being taken a bit further to consider the tribes of Israel being scattered into Scandinavia and Western Europe, from which later came many early converts of the Church, as well as the people of Polynesia and other places? (3 Ne 16:1-3; 'The House of Israel' by E.L.Whitehead, 1947) I think it's fascinating to see how the Lord has truly watched over and preserved these scattered branches of Israel over the course of history and He is now gathering them together at this time. Thank you again for your podcast.

I am not sure that Assyria and Babylon are THE interpretation here, but they are certainly a valid interpretation. The idea is that we are looking at known examples of scattering. And you are right, they were scattered far and wide, including in Scandinavia, etc. They were scattered everywhere, and we have to remember that as we look at this allegory. Thank you!

Makes sense when it talks about the disobedience of Noah in 1st Peter. Do you think that the wicked in Noah's day will have a chance to be Celestial bound or is this more of a way to go from their Telestial state to a Terrestrial kingdom. Perhaps there were small children that could be Celestial Kingdom bound. Dying before the age of accountability.
