- As far right parties made gains in the European parliament elections, Talk’s Ian Collins questions whether the world is heading for “a right-wing takeover”.
Europe’s nationalist parties made gains, capitalising on disquiet over rising prices, migration and the cost of green policies.
The results spurred French President Emmanuel Macron to call a snap national vote.
“The established order of the European Union is crumbling,” Ian says.

Exactly. What's right and left? It's about protecting the nation's culture and welfare. Europe is waking up. Turkiye's government and main opposition are serving the same thing, they want more to come nd integrate them. Majority of TR want immigration problem solved but they voted the same just so the other AKP-CHP doesn't win. CHP wasn't always corrupted but they are now. People are blind. Nationalism is so twisted with religion that those who call themselves "Nationalist Movement Party" is supporting the government who keep taking refugee. Not sure what nation they serve for, but it's not Türk nation. While EU nations are reacting to what's coming with immigration wave, in TR the main topic of politicians is: "street dogs" Interesting times ahead for Turkiye.
I think it's time to put phrases like "far right" and "extreme right" into the bin with "racist", "bigot" and "fascist" as words that have lost all meaning because of over use.

@shadowside8433 that's a bit harsh. What do you expect? People want a party who listen to them! Labour? What's on offer there? The left have done nothing to help themselves. It's gone quite extream. It's made the further right more desirable, an answer to the problems. People are sick of over integration and the removal of traditions.

Maybe for a while, often the rest of Europe is a bit behind the Nordics, in them the natonalist parties came and won a lot of ground 10-8 years ago and have since grown, but now we see that they are decreasing there and the left and the greens are going going forward, the rest of Europe is usually 5-15 years behind, so they will go up, then people will realize that it was not a good choice at all, most things will get worse and then they will return to normal, normal can be a little different for different countries . Unlike where the pogram leader says, they say, for example, that in Sweden 80% are actually Social Democrats, that is perhaps a bit exaggerated but in the Nordic countries people are more left than right, the same applies to countries like Spain, Portugal for example, in England apparently there are probably most conservatives, if you look at Scotland, however, the left gathers 70%.

So after the BBC and others building up the far right as usual in Euro elections, we still have the EPP centre right almost unchanged 1st, the Social Democrats almost unchanged in 2nd place and the Liberal Renew in 3rd. They lost 23 seats but those were mostly the UK's LibDems who in 2019 had a large contingent even if they left the EU in 2020. The main change is that the Eurosceptic right replaced the Greens in 4th, reversing the big gains the Greens made in 2015 and 2019. The far right are still almost nowhere. Yet again the populist right have been oversold and are nowhere near power
