  • Populist and far-right parties may gain more influence in European policy making over the next five years, as early results from the EU election on Sunday indicate a shift in the parliamentary landscape.
Former No.10 adviser Tim Montgomerie joins Talk’s Julia Hartley-Brewer to discuss this further.

We need to send a huge message and make REFORM the opposition to a Labour Party who will not do any better than the Tories because they are virtually the same on all the big issues. Sadly we will need to take another 5 years of the same but hopefully reform will have grown to huge numbers by then.

Funniest comment i received from a disillusioned Tory voter, after suggesting to him to vote reform, was,

Trying to explain to these people that the Tories have already achieved that, is extremely hard work 🙄😆

Can you define "Left/Right"? How do you determine your political centreline? Where do deviations from your own arbitrary centreline cross into "FAR or even EXTREME "left/right" ? Are these terms just terms of abuse for those of a different viewpoint? The whole terminology is very, very subjective and therefore open to manipulation by the press and others. Has it been so manipulated and distorted to the point where it is meaningless ?

@keithhutchins8966 generally the left are for big government, big taxes with government control of the economy.
The right want low taxes, small government interference in their lives and a free market where the consumers/average person set the goals via supply and demand.
At least in economic terms those are the diferences between the left and the right.
Centrist are generally people who can see the benifit of both sides and believe a middle ground should be taken between state control and the free market.
The more government control you want the more left you are. The less government control the more right you are.

It seems we really are run by unseen forces that we can't control. How many times do we have to vote for the same thing and never get it ? In fact the problems get worse. I'll play the game this last time.... then I'm done.
