It used to be 3 dollar and 50 cents for the small one and trust me if you ever go to NYC China Town you have to try this place. The owner is very generous about the meat he will fill the box until it's literally un fillable. The sauce he puts on the rice is not salty or oily. The only few problems are you have to wait in line for at least 10 to 15 minutes and you can forget about it during lunch/dinner rush hours, also that place have no seating, it's tiny but you won't miss it
Can claim what Mike said is true! There is always a line out the door rain or shine. Although everyone say they are there for the cheap price, trust me the food there, especially roast meats, particularly the "char-siu" or roast pork, are ridiculously delicious, there is nothing that I've tried in the rest of the city that can come close to how good it tastes. I remembered it closed for a while because of renovations and I was afraid that we the locals will lose this delicious gem. As far as I know it's a small family-owned business and is run by only a handful of people, so I love going there. If you are ever in New York City Chinatown, please go check it out! I can guarantee you will not regret standing in line.
I'm sure it is true people are there because of the food. If the food wasn't very good no one would care about the cheap price. Lines like they showed only happen when the food is good.
I mean the rice could be be better but lets be honest, people go for the pork which they sell by the pound also
To be completely fair, the char-siu is just as good in most other Cantonese joints in Chinatown and in Sunset Park. It’s just cheap here.
It is not the cheap price. It is the quality. The sausage is even better. I am getting on a plane just to stop by. I hope they are open.

I've been eating there since that picture of Mickey Rourke went up. That duck gravy is delicious. No matter what you eat, it is delicious. These guys can move huge lines every day. Yes, without a doubt, they are the undisputed Kings of Chinese food.

they put in the baking soda rice, so you can have a few bites and be already full, and it also makes the rice shine, so you can get rice from the previous day, add baking soda, and it’s like the day. I I worked in restaurants, I know how it is, nothing is wasted. today's steak is the minced meat with sauce tomorrow.

I love this place. The roast pig and roast pork! Love it. Get a large order with both for $8. Plus you’re in and you’re out. Definitely try it out if you’re in the area.

When I used to work in Chinatown many years ago this was a very convenient place for breakfast and lunch but the line wasn't that bad. Now it's been exposed to social media.

I've been to this place! I went to the US as a tourist from England a couple of years ago..... Stayed in Chinatown, and ate here regularly! Excellent value for money, and the food is really good too!

Here in California in the fifties my family used to go to a chinese restaurant called Chu's cafe, my father always ordered Char sui for an appetizer, that was in a small for California, 12,000 population city, this girl never had this food before, and she's pretending to be knowledgeable about good food?

No, Mike lives a few hours outside of NYC while I'm sure Herrine is a city girl. Though Mike was talking about moving back over to the west coast again so who knows how long he will be in the NY area.

The Chinese greens they serve is napa cabbage, the same veg used in kimchi. The guy who roasts the pig has to start at 5 am to make the prep for lunch service. When they sell it at $5 bucks, they're giving it away cheap. From what I can see, it's a high quality product. Mikey said so.

It used to be $2.75 Any meat over ruce (Roast Chicken, Roast Duck, Roast Pig and Roast Pork. Now its $4.75 (for any chicken) $5.25 for Roast Pig and Duck) but you know what still a great price! Cant beat that plus its taste different and delicious.

In my town, Pontianak, Indonesia. The two types of pork are served in a menu, with "salted vegetables", slices cucumber, sauced chicked and egg, rice and special condensed broth. We call it " Nasi Campur". It only costs Rp. 25.000 ( 2 dollars). No other places sell it better than us in Pontianak 😁😁😁

I think inflation would also cause that too. There's a Vietnamese broken rice restaurant near me called 1.99 and the foods not 1.99 anymore.

I work in the financial district and I go to Chinatown for lunch a lot. There's no place that sells something like that for that cheap.

If you're in Orange County, specifically around the Fountain Valley area, there's a place called Lucky Chinese Food. For $9 you can get roughly the same amount as 2 of those rice bowls, except you get to choose between; White Rice, Fried Rice, Chow Mein, or split half of 2 types. And then you get to choose 2 different sides to go with it that can be anything from Orange Chicken, House Chicken, Roast Pork, String Beans and Beef, and more. And they STUFF the box, almost to the point where you can't close it, I also tend to get a pint of their Fried Squid, which is bomb!
