      @Jinesh, there are 2 separate issues. The ‘paperlike’ texture is to give you a ‘paper-like’ writing or drawing experience.
      The screen protector is really not needed. The glass is very tough, I believe it is GorillaGlass and will not scratch easily.
      I still have my old ipad3 which is over 10 years old. No case, no screen protector, just the standard 3 fold magnetic cover. I have used it constantly on the field everyday (I am a contractor) and never had a screen protector on it. It has been dropped so many times, construction debris and all sorts of granules have fallen on the screen. Everytime I thoroughly wipe the screen, it is as good as new.

    For people who use their iPads primarily for drawing and note taking, textured screen protectors are a must. They improve the writing/drawing experience drastically. I have been using one for a few months now and I absolutely love it. If you want to use your iPad primarily for illustrating or for note-taking, get a matte screen protector.

      A matte screen protector, yes. Not necessarily Paperlike. I’m an artist. I used Paperlike for a long time. But when I bought my new iPad Pro in 2020, I got a new Paperlike and it was awful. Had horrible scratches on it after just a couple of days use and I had a horrific time getting the air bubbles out. I bought a 2-pack of some off-brand ones and they worked perfectly. so i agree if you would like to mostly color-grad don't buy the paperlike. but as said paperlike is for people who need the ipad mostly for drawing and not color-grading or other "only-display" related tasks, because to use lightroom i don't think you need the paper feeling of the faders... ;)

    speaking from an illustrators point of view , paper like is awesome in the sense that it does give great texture and works well with the feel of drawing on the iPad Pro. I have a few points , number one I think that its over priced and that can really make people want to blame it for allot of things going wrong with their experience. I have buyers remorse every time I order a new set of paper like for sure , the good out weights the bad separate from the price .... the price is just bad and can cause me to find reasons to return it. I don't think other reviewers are giving bad reviews and or paid reviews ( I follow a decent amount of the well known reviewers as well as the not so well known ) everyone has said and or brought up allot of your points in their reviews . Like someone said in the comment the good of paper like out weights the bad. Number two , I bought paper like knowing the fact that its texture can do damage to my nib through time as well as it creating a somewhat muted version of the actual brightness of the iPad. I find some of your findings ( especially in regards to photography ) as a bit exaggerated , I find my photos to not be as heavily effected by paper like at all . I think editing on an iPad should always be taken with a grain of salt in the sense that you will go to one extreme or the other .. with the paper like your colors might be a tad muted but not so overly effected that you cannot get the sum of what your working on , same as when without the paper like the colors can be a bit over saturated and not so true to its supposed colors. Working on a tablet has its pros and Cons in my eyes and cannot beat using a properly calibrated monitor. I know this is your experience and I get it , but I've been using paper like for over 3 years ( from the first version to this one ... TBH either or works great ) and I've gotten the total opposite experience with it . I know the one thing that will always be a major con , enough for me to find other faults with it is the price. That price makes me hate it and won't allow me to give it a rave review on my own channel , I felt the need to mention my experience here to sway others from going the alternative route , I've tried almost all the alternatives and I assure you paper like is the shit . Paper like will never get more from me then this , because again the price got me admittedly pissed and I am very petty at this point . I will sub though because your channel looks cool peace !!

    As someone who writes and draws on my iPad all day every day for my work, I can tell you that the benefits outweigh the downsides. Yes, the image is degraded; yes, if you have a heavy hand you’ll mark the protector (it rubs off); and yes, it does weird things to brightness and colour. But if you are using the pencil for hours a day, the bite you get from the paperlike is a bloody godsend.

    • @vlkhvan
      @vlkhvan 3 года назад +8

      I think the problem with Paperlike is with their advertising. They clearly say that it doesn’t affect the image quality, and it sounds like you don’t lose anything but get better drawing experience and protection. And all for $30+. But in reality you do get degraded image quality. So why lie? To sell to those customers who are not drawing, obviously. Professional illustrators understand the benefits of such screen protectors and ready for this trade off - image quality degradation for better pencil control. But unfortunately, pro illustrators is a very small part of iPad users. Thus Paperlike tries to convince the rest of the iPad users to buy it as well with the lie like “buy this, you lose nothing but get better pencil experience”. And of course they spend as hell sponsoring RUclipsrs. In practice, for majority of users it is not worth it. When 70% of the time you consume content on the device it doesn’t make any sense to apply something that degrades the image quality, whatever those paid RUclipsrs say

    Well, if you add a paper which turns your surface more rough, what do you expect to happen xD Ofc there is gonna be some refraction, but this is basically for people who cares more about the touch & feel, rather than 100% screen quality. And no, it is not supposed to reduce screen glare outside, reflected light it is always gonna be coming from the roughness of the surface, so if it is reflecting a point light, that reflection always will be wider. This is for 2 kind of people. FIRST: Ilustrators, concept artists or whoever uses the apple pencil for something else than a random note writting. SECOND: For the people who hates fingerprint marks all over the screen.
    I hope all this info helps, I bought paperlike 2 and had it for over a year.

  • @antifern0

    I’ve had my paperlike screen-protector for about 2 years and unfortunately I have to agree with this review! The noise really triggers me every time I pick up my iPad. The texture they’re so praised for goes away after a year or so of use, at least in my experience. Then the mat-finish … It causes light to spread out on the screen, which is great when there is no direct light shining on the screen, but when there is direct light, the screen iPad just becomes invisible and thus the iPad unusable. The scratches which the screen-protector gets so easily are probably the biggest issue. When the screen is off your iPad looks like trash because of it… I would only buy this if your an artist whose main usage of the iPad is drawing, otherwise this high price is definitely not worth it.

    I have the iPad Pro 2020 and have stardet using Paperlike about a month ago. As a student and artist - I draw, I dont work with photographs! - I can honestly only recommend Paperlike (or any other matte screen protector). I can tell, that the screen quality gets the typical matte effect on it, but I dont really notice it when using the iPad a lot. What I do notice on the other hand, is that the screen really „saves“ your last moves with the pencil and gives you this scratched impression… when you dont clean it properly. If you use your ipad with your fingers a lot (I mainly use the trackpat), it smudges and you WILL SEE the last moves with your pencil when turned off - but thats the case with all screen protectors.

I just bought a nano-texture iPad (I need anti-reflective high quality options), didn't receive it yet but I hope it is good enough. I am upgrading because I use an 11" but in your case... already having the great XDR of the 12.9", probably is not worth the upgrade, but you can always trade-in with Apple if interested. Let's see what happens with this nano-texture (different from the big monitors), and they are charging a hefty premium for it if you don't need 1TB. In any case take a look of it, interesting and promising. Cheers.

    • @edmundoa1935
      @edmundoa1935 3 месяца назад

      @@loved6112 Yes. Meanwhile waiting for the nano I bought the 13” glossy, and it is heavenly, superlative, the best display I’ve seen in my life. There is no way on earth that I was expecting also the best anti reflective surface (the nano) without losing something. The point is that I expected losing more. Objectively, the nano texture iPad is very close to its glossy counterpart and the non-reflective properties are just a delight. The blacks are as black, as long as there is no much light, otherwise it turns dark gray: even with extreme ambient light you can use it well, but the blacks look as an LCD-black-gray. However, just in general it is not the same a glossy black and a matte black (think a magazine, glossy vs matte paper, how the same black ink is perceived). I don’t have problems with sharpness, I believe this fear comes from the Apple’s LCD monitors with nano-texture. Vibrancy? Very notable difference, favoring the glossy.
      So, the glossy is just Nirvana, and the nano a level below. Worth it? Not for me, surprisingly.
      Two factors, that you cannot know until experience it directly (every person’s sensitivities and proclivities are different):
      1. The edges are glossy. When I read with great reflections behind, the screen is superb, but the glossy edges bother me so much, defeating the purpose of an anti-reflecting treatment.
      2. My logic mind still believe that nano is better for my preferences, but my emotional mind (heart) loves the glossy display so much, and just straight dislikes the nano… this is as subjective as it can be, and I can tell you categorically that there is something in the nano-texture that actually provoques me some sort of uneasiness, even a bad mood. I believe that is the way Apple deals with the intensity of the display to compensate for the diffusion of the light (for example, they don’t disclose what PWM -Pulse Width Modulation- is used on their products), but ultimately is irrelevant for me the actual cause, being in contact with my sensations, whatever it is, the nano is not for me.
      I just received it a few days ago, that’s why I am replying to you until now. If you are in doubt and planning to buy one, please consider buying and receiving both at the same time and then returning one. No one can answer your particular preferences until you do it yourself carefully. Thanks for this honest review. Back in 2010 I had an iPad with a screen protector which also added noise. I swore never to buy a similar product again.
    It was so annoying, the worst thing was that the noise changed depending on viewing angle.

    seems like Paperlike does a really good job managing/paying for the perception of their iPad product. all of the issues you mentioned have been concerns of mine, yet most reviews on YT claim things like "no issue with distortion", or "it's durable". thanks for being honest.

    i ended up getting a “paper feel” screen protector from amazon. i tried the paperlike one while using a friends ipad and i wasn’t impressed. sure, they’re similar but the $14 investment for mine was well worth it and it doesn’t seem to gather as much oil from my hands. considering i have a 2019 7th gen ipad, the quality difference between the regular glass screen and the protector wasn’t too much of a difference, in my opinion.

    probably no one is gonna read this but let me explain a few things:
    The reason for that grainy effect that is shown in the video is because of the mini led display , papperlike was desinged for the led display that the ipad pro prev generations had so of course is not gonna work as intended for newer models. im not saying papper like is outstanding and is far for being perfect, it actually has a big flaw because one protector dosnt last that much, ill say that roughly last about 1 month and then u need to replace it cause it doesnt feel like paper anymore.
    Pd: the claim that said that the papper like removed the noise is beacuse prev papperlike versions had that problem and that got fix of course until m1 ipad pro 12.9 inch came out, that should not happen to the m1 11 inch version because is the same screen that we had on the prev gen

    I appreciate your honesty and criticisms for the people they would be helpful for, but dang I couldn’t agree less. I usually go for cheap screen protectors, and was scared to drop the cash on one that could be garbage, but I fell in love instantly with the thing. It took my iPad experience up several notches for me, but you know what they say - strokes and folks.

    Hi, I am a visual (drawing) artist and I wanted to say that there are some very good points here, but you do need to consider what you are using your iPad for. If you are using it for photo editing, like this youtube I recommend you not get the screen protector. However, while I don't enjoy the noise while reading or taking notes, I actually really enjoy it for art and sketching. Because it makes your screen look like light-up sketch paper. I also have not had color issues, but this could be either photography vs drawing issue or a CMYK vs. RGB issue. All in all, it is a great screen protector but you have to think about your main iPad ussage before buying. I know it's enhanced my experience as an artist because I hated drawing on the smooth iPad texture. The lines are annoying, though.

    I have an off-brand paperlike screen protector on my IPad Mini 5, and love it. It absolutely does make the screen not as pretty for media consumption (and media editing, I assume), but it isn't as bad as in this video. Interesting that the different devices would react so differently. I really like the feel of writing on it with a stylus, so it is worth the trade off to me. I was going to buy a Remarkable otherwise.

    It's all subjective really. You, yourself, will never know if you like it until you try it. For me, the paperlike screen protector is what kept me coming back to the device. And I feel it is pretty much essential if you're planning to work with the Apple pencil, unless you want to experience random spikes in friction along the screen while writing/drawing. If you're not going to write/draw on the iPad, you probably don't need it.

    If you use the Apple pencil whatsoever, it's worth it. It really bugged me lot at first but I quickly got used to the slight dip in resolution. I found the paperlike reduced the glare as well. But I'm also on a standard iPad, not a Pro, Air, or Mini.

    Thanks for the review, however let me add my 2 cents here. I have been using PaperLike for about a month now. I still have no scratches. Perhaps this is a bad idea for a M1 12.9". I have an 11" which is a different screen technology. I don't really notice this difference in color quality you mention. I wonder if this screen protector is really incompatible with the new HDR display but for the rest is fine. To be fair, I use my iPad for drawing, painting and reading mainly. For all those tasks the screen protector has enhanced my experience. However If I were to use video, photo editing etc. this protector would be a terrible idea.

    the vignetting effect comes from the M1 Ipad's new display. It's an acceptable side effect of the tech.

    I'm using my iPad pro for digital arts and games rn and it doesn't have any screen films or protectors, no scratches. The apple pencil tip's material was built for the iPad pro. I think even without the screen film, it is still good. The pen tip is still good like it's brand new. If you are thinking if you want to have any screen films, it's all up to you. This is just my opinion that someone might be looking for, yes it's safe to use it without any films, yes the tip of my apple pencil is not worn or blunt, yes there aren't any scratches whatsoever

    So I installed it on my 11.9 (Prior to the M1) and, to be honest, I loved the texture, but the graininess made me think my eyes were playing tricks on me. I tried to like it, I really did, but with the exception of pencil-based tasks, everything about it felt like a downgrade, so after ruining 1 trying to install it, and ripping off the second entirely, I'm kinda done with paperlike.

    I think that's pretty common, I mean it's a plastic and new ipad's screen is such a badass and there is no way plastic will be enough for that. I simply got a crystal one and i am alright, I mean, yeah the pencil writes super smooth there but anyway I am used to fountains pens so... for me it's just great. But I definitely would have expected noise from peper like screen protectors.

    Honestly, I use it and I like it. I have a regular ipad for school with one and a secondary ipad air 3 for home without one. The screen becomes slightly grainy but I’ve never had a issue with it. I wouldn’t put it on if you need the display to that point, but I have tried using my air 3 without one and my apple pencil slips around a lot more. I use it with onennote and pdfs in the files app and for that use case, it really works well. I honestly haven’t really had any of the colour and brightness issues, but it does become slightly grainy due to the matting, but negligible.

    Interesting to see this from the view of a non drawing-artist. I use my ipad 99% for drawing on procreate and sometimes a bit of google research. It has all the "issues" you said, but the feeling of paper with the non stick feeling of touch on the palm and sound of the pencil give it a nice work experience that does make a difference when you draw several hours a day. I was even against paperlike when it came out because I considered it way too expensive until I got it as a gift. Really enjoy it now, but I do get your critic.
    Basically its just worth it if you draw or write a lot.

    • @charlottesmom

    • @What_Shaniquas_Into
      @What_Shaniquas_Into 2 года назад

      I draw for about 5 hours a day in Procreate and had to remove my paperlike after less than a week. I’m not particularly heavy handed when I write or draw, but the scratches left on the screen and the drastic wear on my apple pencil nib made it a huge nope for me. I think paperlike has different versions of their protector out there. Some folks never experience the deep permanent screen scratches and their pencils are fine. But there are also lots of artists like me who have had terrible experiences and will never try the product again.

    Have an older iPad (2020 11”). Had a paper like screen protector. Can confirm, it’s just as bad. My biggest issue on top of the noise is that the screen almost looks oily in certain areas. It’s quite sad because I actually really enjoyed the writing experience, but as you said, it was completely unusable in all other areas.
