I remember using the first version of Paperlike on my iPad Pro in 2018. For writing, it was ok, but for making art? It was rubbish due to the severe colour distortion. The rainbow stripes were so bad, yet none of the reviewers (some were artists) at the time pointed out the obvious flaw. Don't know about the newer versions, but after that experience alone I've learnt not to trust RUclips reviewers over Paperlike because they're mostly just paid ads.
I have the same concern really - I’m unsure how much I believe it could have improved….I’m not an artist but it seemed like such a waste of a great looking screen at the times I wasn’t taking notes.
@@shplorf1977 would you say the 2.1 is the worth the money? Im mainly concerned about if the screen quality looks worse and whether the screen protector is durable to scratches from the apple pencil.

Used the ESR matte screen on iPad Pro. I would say the first months were excellent but after some maybe 8 months, the matte screen protector is now very slippery. Writing on it feels slippery and I experiences less control so writing needs more effort to have clean handwriting. I haven’t used the Paperlike so I really can’t compare both.
Can absolutely recommend the ESR paperfeel. Even if the pencil tip wears out faster, it‘s a pretty obvious choice to go for it. A Pencil tip is much cheaper and obviously less hard to swap out 😂 Imo Paperlike is hardly overpriced and much less durable as the test has proven.

Thanks for doing this video-I’ve only used Paperlike, so I’ve wondered about the quality of the other brands. I’ve struggled with applying them, even ended up wasting a version 2 of Paperlike, because it bent when I was trying to remove the backing. Sounds like I have a choice to make, regarding the trade off of wearing on the pencil nibs.
I bought and use Paperlike, the tactile feeling of drawing on actual paper feels so much better than the tippy-tap of my pencil against my actual screen. After using it for a few months, I decided to buy a few more, as I’ll need them. Oh and some Apple Pencil replacement tips lol
I just ordered an ESR protector because I used to have a Paperlike but my puppy decided he was curious about my iPad when I accidentally left it within his reach and he nibbled at it badly enough that the screen protector has an annoying gash in it, but thankfully, the Paperlike did its job and did, indeed, protet the screen. The Paperlike is however very pricey and I have noticed that it seems to show wear pretty easily. Hopefully my pup doesn't test the ESR's capabilities when I get it, but if I do, I'll be sure to report the results. This video does give me some comfort in that it does seem like the ESR should hold up pretty well.

I tried pen tips, paperlike and now I have one from ESR (the magnetic one that just snaps on to the edges of the screen). Paperlike and pen tips are crap compared to the one from ESR. Got mine today and I'm disappointed. I don't feel my writing experience is better. Even though there's a bit of a rough texture to it while making lines, this texture isn't consistent across all parts of the screen (maybe just an issue with mine?). The texture doesn't slow the pencil down enough to really make a significant difference while writing. It's only notable when making long lines (drawing), but for writing I think it would need to be rougher. To make things worse, I actually dislike how it feels when touching the screen with my fingers. Installation wasn't great. The cleaning accessories are pathetic, smaller than the stuff you get with cheap screen protectors from Ali. The part which you're supposed to stick on first has very low adhesion, so when you try to remove the rest of the protective bit, it's really easy to pull away the whole thing and get a bunch of dust under it. And yes, that's exactly what happened to me. The image degradation is huge. Not only are colors significantly worse, viewing angles are worse as well, to a point where just shifting my head slightly changes the perceived colors on the screen. It's noticeable even while just taking notes on a white background. There's this very grainy pattern across the whole screen, looks like miniature water drops. And although there aren't any straight up reflections, light sources at angles add this hue which ends up affecting a large section of the screen and makes readability much worse. Overall, even if this technically reduces glare, it ads so many negative properties to the screen that the glossy finish ends up performing better overall.
