    Good report. The state of agave spirit is changing daily. Big biz conglomerate vs. the small, family and artisanal producers. Stay tuned.
    Mixto Tequila can be 49% grain alcohol from a number of sources. Cheap mixto tequila are what college kids do shooters with and end up with the worst hangover of their life and end up hating "Ta-kill-ya" forever. The problem is actually with the mixed-in grain alcohol which contains chemical congeners which cause the problems. 100% agave Tequila (and Mezcal) has a different form of, and less injurious congener. Reposado Tequila is aged in oak 2 to 12 months. Beyond this age time is classified as Añejo . Correction: At last count, over 220 species, or varieties of agave have been identified. Agave is not a cactus, but actually related to the Lilly. Agave derived spirit liquor is about to overtake the rest of the spirit world market in sales and popularity. #1 mixed drink in the USA is the Margarita. #1 Tequila mixed drink in Mexico is the Paloma. "At times, one will come across the name Agave vershaffeltii, which is actually a variety of Agave potatorum. Agave plants are related to the lily family but are more closely related to the Yucca. Most Agave plants bloom only once during the course of their life." Cir: 1560 Mexico, the Spanish distill the local beer-like Pulque into agave spirit liquor because they ran out of brandy, etc. Along with Spanish distillation, the indigenous Mexican peoples also get the Spanish language, Catholicism and disease. "All Tequila is Mezcal, but all Mezcal in not Tequila"
    I age my own Tequila, Sotol, Raicilla and Bacanora is small 2 to 8 litre, new American and French oak, medium char barrels for just over a year to produce Extra Añejo which is the among smoothest and most flavourful I have tasted at any price. I lose about 30% to evaporative loss over the year aging process or what I call "Diablos share" and barrels must be topped up every few weeks to avoid oxidation.

    Great video, good information. A couple of inaccuracies but over all very good. No mention of tequilas with additives? Majority of tequila brands are adding crap to your favorite tequila. Do your own research and find out. I only support and drink additive free tequila, so many good ones out there to choose from. Salud

    You forgot the “Claro.”

    • @TheJuiceMagnet
      @TheJuiceMagnet 4 года назад

      Claro is a category undeserving of any mention. It is nothing more than a gimmick, and the best producers out there are rightfully avoiding it. Hopefully it dies soon and is looked upon as the silly trend it is.

    • @geraldbrienza4474
      @geraldbrienza4474 4 года назад

      The “best” like Casa Dragones Joven, & Don Julio 70? Two of my favorites.

    • @TheJuiceMagnet
      @TheJuiceMagnet 4 года назад +5

      @@geraldbrienza4474 Don Julio is decent at best, and Casa Dragones is one of the biggest laughing stocks of the industry. Their tequila is made with a diffuser for crissake. Nobody with any knowledge of production processes drinks that crap. Just like true connoisseurs don't drink cristallinos/claros. Claros are nothing more than an anejo that has been run through charcoal filtration to remove the color and oak influence. Why age it in the first place if you are going to strip away what the barrel does to the tequila? It's stupid. And to top it off, they have the nerve to charge more money for it. Don't like anejos? Great, buy a blanco. I suggest you learn about the production process for tequila, what objective measures quantify a quality/authentic tequila, and what brands' production methods are. Some of the most overrated, overhyped, overpriced brands out there are just garbage in a fancy bottle with a good marketing team. Casa Dragones is a perfect example. $200+ for a bottle that is of the same quality as Jose Cuervo Especial. Don't give your hard earned money to these brands that trade on nothing but image and sensationalism. You can buy staggering good tequila for a fraction of the price of CD Joven. And not only are they swindling you, they are hurting the entire industry. Salud.

    People love Mexican food and Mexican drinks. People celebrate Cinco de Mayo and dress up like with sombreros and shit. Most don't even know what the 5th of May celebration is for. They want our culture, but they don't want us, unless it's my people working the fields for shitty wages in shitty conditions. The sad part is that many celebrate 4th of July and they don't even know what it's about! They just think it's the day we're allowed to pop tiny explosives. And that's how I'm going to practice my First Amendment right in this comment. Fuck yeah!
