  • The Ltd. Edition 75th Anniversary Inspired by “1939” Century Amp is a modern 18-watt all-tube, guitar amplifier with a 12” speaker that revives an Art Deco era masterpiece from Epiphone’s early days in Manhattan.
    The Epiphone “1939” Century is a faithful replica of the classic 1930s era cabinet design including bent rims, an all-metal handle, 6-point star screws, and vintage style grill cloth but with newly designed all-tube electronics. Plus, the “1939” Century includes three uniquely voiced inputs and an internal bias adjustment for further tone control.
    In the late 30s, Epiphone was already blazing a trail for what founder Epi Stathopoulo saw as the future-the electric guitar. And now in the 21st century, the “1939” Century Amp returns with a modern all-tube amp design with a powerful, full-toned 12” Electar speaker in a compact, easy-to-carry, cabinet that has been featured in every vintage guitar book!

    The designer of the amp is brilliant.. The 1939 century amp is the most sought after tube amp around. They are rare and
    the ART DECO design. is a masterpiece. I bought two of them just because I appreciate how they look. Knobs on the front would take away from the design. Hats off to Epiphone for reproducing a piece of art. They sound great!

    Appearance aside it sounds more like a 60's amp(fender meets marshall) and not a 40's/50's amp.It's much tighter and punchier(fixed bias,SS rectified,ceramic speaker)That said I demo'd one today at GC and was surprised with the build quality.It's entirely plywood constructed (no crappy mdf!).The grille fabric is actually metal and is really strong and looks great.There is more clean headroom than say a Vox AC15 and the transition into overdrive is good,usable in all positions.It can be very bright and modern sounding or warmer depending on input selection,it's surprising flexible.I think it's a good candidate for modders since the shell is so well built...and portable as hell.Nice amp. EDIT:After reading on forums of hum and hiss issues I do in fact recall the amp having more hum than other comparable amps..that said the hum changed little with volume increase,it was at low volumes whee it was most noticeable.I didn't hear any more hiss than usual.

      bootlegapples Yes, the shell does seem like a good base for a modding project. I would be tempted to take a non-functional one and build a PC into it. That would make a perfect Rocksmith rig.

    Got my Epiphone Century today! It looks even better in person than the photos and videos show. Plus, more importantly, it SOUNDS even better in person! Absolutely staggeringly beautiful musical sounds emanate from this gem of an amplifier. Make sure to check out the manual for some other cool surprises that aren't advertised. Thank you and well done Epiphone for hitting a home run on this amp!

      FuturePrimitive Can you answer a question for me? Because I have an Epi Ultra 339 with stereo out puts, I am looking for amps that allow me to plug in two guitars at once(yes I know this sorta defeats the stereo) and play both at the same time, can you do this on the Century?

    • @TheFutureIsPrimitive
      @TheFutureIsPrimitive 9 лет назад

      As in the multiple instrument inputs on the classic amps right? I have not tried it, but I don't think you can do that with the new Century. You can plug the three inputs into an A/B/C box as kind of a channel selector for instantly changing the amp tone, character, and EQ settings. This would be especially useful for a versatile guitar, or if you switch out different guitars. If you want stereo, you might want to buy two Century amps, then plug into different inputs on each amp to get a fuller sound. That's in the style of BB King or Brian May.

      BPStorm There are stereo guitar amps on the market that might suit your needs better. I have seen models by Roland and Hughes & Kettner that may do for what you want.

    Love that red Sheraton! Don't see those too often! I dig the overdrive on this amp....the cleans not so much. If it had built-in reverb this thing would be killer!

    This amp sounds like it is made for someone who uses either a multi-effects or a pedel board. The boost function sounds similar to a tube screamer in its effect so if you have a good overdrive/distortion effect then this could be a good amp assuming you just want it to have one base sound that you dial in at the beginning of a gig.

      It is seriously missing an equaliser

    because the control knobs are located on the lower back and literally a pain in the back to use , I tore the amp apart and built a box to house the working part so have a "head" type amp now and cool vintage looking cab, and for $5 the "buzz" was easily taken care of by adding a pot on the tube warming wiring .... :)

    Very disappointing. The only thing 1939 about this is the look. I would think that most people who are attracted to the aesthetics of this amp would be looking for the tone of 1939 with the reliability of a modern amp. The original version of this amp sounds like Charlie Christian, this version seems to be marketed to classic rockers. I'd buy three of them if they had gone for the classic vibe without the overdrive.

      The Lo-Fi Loungers I wouldn't be so hasty on the "disappointing" judgement. To quote Lee Trevino, "It's not the arrow; it's the Indian." If you want to play this new Century like Charlie Christian, then adjust the knobs and play like it's 1939. It's pretty clear that the demo guitar player is playing music in the style of later eras. There is an option for boost if you choose to use it. It's a Class A/B, so it can do both, AND would probably love effects pedals. You get versatility right out of the box.
