    Awesome demonstration. I'd been searching for sound bytes that showed the full capabilities of these amps and had previously only heard old timey twang. Loved this video. Now I know what to get.

    Great demo, excellent knob tweaking. Left-hand thumb rings are a bad idea for guitar necks tho.

    Killer demo. On my way to get a 1624T today. Any reason for the t-shirt change from rhythm to lead?

    I realize this is a non-master volume amp, but can you get a decent overdriven sound at lower volumes?

    I am doubting that 24W rating.. Some pics of the amp show a large 200r 15W resistor between the 6973 tubes which indicates that it is cathode biased.. I do not expect to get more than 17W from a pair of small cathode biased 6973 tubes..

    • @maurorossetti5040

    This or a fender twin reverb?

    • @jessemaes1990
      @jessemaes1990 9 лет назад +4

      Depends on what you want. A Twin is hyper clean, this amp will distort more easily when you turn it up.

    • @norwester7018
      @norwester7018 9 лет назад +2

      Jesse Maes Yep... Absolutely agree.
      Twin Reverb is massive clean headroom with not a lot of natural (if any) amp-driven grit. the wattage is also a lot higher in any given Twin Reverb so it's kind of apples/oranges aye. This Supro amp seems to have a LOT of great tonal qualities and a lot of sound shaping to be had at the control panel as well. The tremolo and gain alone sound delicious and very touch sensitive.
      IF, you always play with a pedal board to get your gain/distortion and need to fill a great deal of space (like a small arena) and/or don't mic your amp (or if you're one of the modern "E-rig" players who really use their amps more like a PA and re-amp through electronics), then a Twin could be what you're after. BUT, if you play a variety of settings from at home/practice spaces to jams to gigs etc, you'd likely be way better off with a 'smaller' output amp that you can mic but that will give you the ability to play "straight in" (no pedals) and still get that grit and distortion from the amp itself (and most importantly to me, the guitars volume/tone controls) not the pedal board alone.
      I play a faux-tweed Peavey Classic 50-212 (a very "un-Peavey' like amp but a total sweetheart) and I really like the pre/post volume controls and the good master volume (vs some of the "bad" circuits some, including Fender, have used over the years) because they allow me to have a 50w, 2x12 amp for bigger gigs, but still crank it down and use it for smaller gigs and settings without blowing other players out of the room (and it's a great place to sit and set a beer when need be) but still get the same distortion of having my guitar cranked...
      More "versatile" amps fit a larger group of players needs better IMO. But, if you're after a big loud "speaker" to play a mass of effects out of the Twin Reverb is a great choice cause you won't get a ton of unwanted over-drive/distortion from stacking effects and a lot less signal degradation if you're running powered/buffered pedals

    • @kommi1974
      @kommi1974 9 лет назад +2

      It is the exact same circuit, unless I am mistaken. I think the only difference in sound would be the from the speakers/tubes. I would like to heat the RI up against the original. Also bare in mind, RUclips compresses the shit out of the video so the sound we get isn't what you hear in person. There may be a difference of course, but just a few things that may alter the sound. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on the circuit/speakers/tubes, etc.

      @@kommi1974 Same circuit yes, but there must be other vintage parts that are not available now. Being an old amp it would have had Allen Bradley resistors and a lot of ceramic disk caps, resistors and caps would drift, etc.

    Why do ALL of the demos of these Supro amps sound so shrill and harsh in the upper mids and highs? Is that what these amps sounded like 'back in the day'? It isn't a pleasant tone at all.

      It's the miking. Close miking with an SM57 is where that shitty, fizzy top end is coming from. I guarantee that amp sounds nothing like this, IN the room.

    • @salzulli6290
      @salzulli6290 5 лет назад

      @@tonytouchzz Jimmy Page actually used multiple mics to balance the tone so it wasn't too shrill.

      @johnlyell1282 5 лет назад

      Yeah...I agree with the high end sounding a bit shrill on these. In this demo he had the Tone knob turned all the way to the right...which is essentially putting the Treble all the way up. God knows why he did that ? I certainly wouldn't have that Tone knob turned all the way right.
