I just want to say that this is the video that turned me into the Dual Tone. Before this, I had only heard of the Black Magick from Phil X and that was all I wanted. But I saw this video and decided that the Dual Tone was better for me, so I bought one about 5 years ago and it's just so good! I now also have a Vox, a Fender Bassbreaker 45, and multiple cabinets with different speakers to alter my tones. As much as I love those other two amps, everytime I go back and play the Supro I can tell that it is on another league compared to those two. It is more dynamic, and it sits better on a mix by far. It's the best amp I've ever had! Thanks for these videos Johan! They do help a lot!
Dual Tone! Open vintage tones that shimmer then melt away as to be waiting on the next note. Black Magic is just a little thick sounding but nice as well.
Thanks for making this video (and recording these both properly rather than using a phone or camera mic)! I was truly curious about the sonic differences but this answers my questions nicely! Both killer amps, but the snarl and chime of the Dual Tone suits my needs particularly well.
unbelievable control of distortion, this is just some of the most intense and emotionally precise played riffs i EVER heard among so many artists on 7:24 not joking! the easyness in this melody, the clearness, the straight groove, so good. True Magic ;)
both amps are great, but especially the black magick sounds ace. so raw and ballsy! i can almost feel the air moving just by listening. great riffs again johan :)
great video Johan!! the dual tone definitely has that more open sound with some extra upper mids present i think. I like them both, the black magic isn't too dark however i think for recording purposes the dual tone might be more versatile
if I had to choose I would go for the dual tone. it has a special tone scooped rich, clear crunch the kind of tone every guitarist seeks. blues heaven. I'm a big fan of your guitar playing Johan. :-D thumbs up mate.
Awesome stuff again. Not many channels dedicated to maxing tube amps the way they were meant to be. amazing to hear. Beginning to love this channel. New vids on here are up there with That Pedal Show for weekly must see. You absolutely need to get some t-shirts sorted with 'So... Lets go!' printed on them. I'd buy one!
Great video! I have been curious how they compared. Did you find that the Black Magick was a little hotter? Sonically very close, do you think the cabinet size and the 10" vs 12" speaker really accounts for the sonic difference? To me the dual tone sounds a bit more like The Rolling Stones while the Black Magick is a bit more Led Zeppelin. Am I the only one hearing that?
Recently picked up the Dual Tone and love it. One of my favorite amps I've ever owned. How does it compare to the Coronado tonally? Might be interested in that one at some point.
Been debating on what Supro I want to get. Your video has reaffirmed, that I love the Black Magick.. Excellent sounds, and playing, for this comparison. Depending on what you were playing, the Dual Tone sounds just as good, in a different way, but the Black Magick has the thickness I'm listening for.
Thanks for making this video. I was wondering what the Black Magic sounded like compared to my Dual Tone. They both sound great but to me I think the Dual Tone is just a little more versatile. I think I will be keeping mine! Cheers!
Amazing demo Johan ! They both sound so nice ! I thought I would prefer Black Magick, but I love them both equally. Dual tone is spot on Jimmy Page ! Thanks ! : ) : ) : )
Yeah, this video reinforces something that's been holding me back on the Black Magick... it seems just a tad dark, or rather, a touch heavy in the low mids. Though I think it sounds great, in a band context I'm not sure it has the upper content to stand up bold and really cut. Honestly, every time I play one, I only find the tone useful above 65%. With the Dual Tone, I like running one tone really bright and the other about halfway. I'd be elated with either, but I'm about 60/40 in favor of the Dual Tone, which surprises me.
+Randall Yeager I think they would cut through mixes well both of them, I compare the BM to 11 other amps in this clip: ruclips.net/video/AM3jiMx5U2A/видео.html
I've played both, but not side by side. I love both, but I'm torn. Do you feel having two tone controls available on the Dual Tone gets you a more complex sound with more versatility? In terms of gain, both a great, but the Black Magick is the winner. Also, I wasn't able to play them with the same guitar, but the Dual Tone seemed to have a little more background noise, which I think I heard here too. Is the Black Magick quieter, in terms of hum/hiss?
+Randall Yeager I think they're both rather quiet in terms of noise. Didn't experiment that much with the tone controls of the DT, gonna take a look at that! Cheers
Wow, you nailed it! I liked the black magic and ... Wow, the dual tone is so much more on Led Zeppelin ! That two guitars same player feeling. Amazing demo, and amp.
Another awesome vid mate the amps & playing sound great! I wanna get one of these not sure which tho can they get decent drive at lower volume with a boost? Cheers
Dual Tone has the mojo. 6973 power tubes are so dynamic, clean crackle and when pushed break up so well, better than EL 84's. Supro did a smart thing by only having a tone control. The more knobs you have in the circuit, the tone suffers. Boutique amp very reasonably priced.
Did it bother anybody else seeing his input cable that close to the ground? Rocking back and forth like that you risk putting too much weight on the input jack/cable. I really like the sound of both amps.
Johan you are going to turn me green with envy with all those great amps at your disposal. It's amazing what you have access to there. Marshall should be cutting you a stipend for all the great advertising your doing for them. But I guess you will have to settle for playing some of there best amps ever at your leisure lol. I mean WOW!
wow great amps wish I could buy the black majick....have to save some money now..I wonder how the supro drive pedal would sound next to the real thing? not as good probably... thanks Johan another great demo!
+chris pollard Hi Chris! Good to hear from you! I tried the Supro Fuzz and it sounded great but needed a fair amount of amp distortion under it to work well. Cheers
Definitely separate voicings. I’d like to know the difference in their build. From my understanding they have the same pre and power tubes and two channel config. The dual tone sounds fuller with not as much muddy tone. Were you’re tone settings the same for both amps? Good video.
The dual tone seemed a lot clearer and brighter. The black magic was a lot darker and fatter. I LOVE BOTH! But i like the dual tone the best....now to save up for one.
gibbanz22 The Dual Tone has one extra perk, being able to use both tone controls and blending those in addition to the volumes. Both are excellent, and I've played both... A LOT. The Black Magick has more gain on tap, but the drawback is less clean volume available, but both cleanup beautifully with your guitar's volume. Personally, I have a Supro overdrive, a Wampler Tumnus, and an Analogman Beano Boost, so the additional gain isn't necessary for me on the Black Magick. I think, ideally, I'd put the Black Magick speaker in the Dual Tone cab.
This was exactly my thought process. I went with the Dual Tone for the blending of tone and volume controls. I feel like the extra gain in the Black Magick is coming from celestion style speaker and possibly the different 12ax7's. (instead of the 12ax7eh in the dual tone) I think if you were to give the Dual Tone a speaker with quicker break up and gainier pre tubes, you'd prob have a Black Magick. :) I kept my DT stock...the frequencies that are heard on the open chords at 1:19 are what sold me :)
I always though that the best Supro was the Black Magick, but I might have to get one of those Dual Tones. If I could, I would get both, but I checked the prices online, and it seems to me that I can actually get a Dual Tone if i save up a couple of months. Great video Johan!
Wondering if the right pedal setup can take a Dual Tone to Black Magick. Dual tone just seems a little more versatile and a little easier on the wallet.
@Johan Segeborn, which one do you prefer? I’m sure it’s a much different experience being in front of the amp vs watching a RUclips clip...so I’d like to know your honest take.
The Dual Tone sounds more like inside of a metal can, when distorts... I prefer the rich tones of the Black Magick. Thanks for your videos, every time I have more clear my choice :)))
Black Magick definitely has more gain, and sounds great, but I prefer the tone of the Dual Tone better. The only reason I haven't bought one yet was because it doesn't come in a black levant covering in a head with gold pipping.
ok. maybe I am just so used to the dual tone setup... I have an original 1624T...and it only slightly resembles these new reissues. maybe get an original 1624T and compare to the new dual tone. but the black magic doesn't really sound like any supro amp I have played before.
+Revelry 1969 yeah it would be really interesting to compare original and reissue. Often speaker cones are hard to recreate resulting in an inaccurate top end. I have never played an original Supro yet, so I appreciate your feedback. Cheers
Johan you have got to split that signal and run both those amps at same time. mic'd separately. it has got to be amazing with the tones from those to amps blending together. video pleeeease???
Johan - really enjoyed listening to your playing and comparing the Supro amps. If we lived closer we could jam - I'll bring the beer & chips! 👍
I just want to say that this is the video that turned me into the Dual Tone. Before this, I had only heard of the Black Magick from Phil X and that was all I wanted. I always find myself tapping my feet while watching your videos 😀 Great job as always.
Dual Tone! Open vintage tones that shimmer then melt away as to be waiting on the next note. Black Magic is just a little thick sounding but nice as well.
+Mark B Thanks Mark!
Thanks for making this video (and recording these both properly rather than using a phone or camera mic)! I was truly curious about the sonic differences but this answers my questions nicely! Both killer amps, but the snarl and chime of the Dual Tone suits my needs particularly well.
Great playing, awesome tone. These amps are fantastic. Well done!
+Yann E. Thanks, glad you liked it!
Hell yeah! Love those amps, now I need to add them to my list of "must haves". Thanks again!
edit: I preferred the Dual-Tone chime and roar!
+Rick McCargar Thanks Rick! :-)
I honestly haven't heard a demo of the new supros that I didn't like! Love your channel and demos sir! thank you
+Brett Vanderhoof Thanks Brett! Glad to hear it :-)
I CHOOSE THE BEACH AND THE DUAL TONE.
+jonathan pierce band :-) Cheers man!
I bought one,! Amazing amp
unbelievable control of distortion, this is just some of the most intense and emotionally precise played riffs i EVER heard among so many artists on 7:24 not joking! the easyness in this melody, the clearness, the straight groove, so good. True Magic ;)
Nice Demo! The Dual Tone really does it for me. Less dark and has brighter, more complex tone. Perfect amp for classic rock.
Getting a dual tone based on johan's awesome demo
I bought a Dual Tone on a whim and I've never looked back. A special, special amp.
Great playing, Johan! So fun to listen to you try out these cool amps.
The Black Magic sound magical :D Great tone and playing!
+John Cole Burnett Thanks man! Glad to hear it!
They both sound so different from each other, but have a distinct sound in common at the same time. I'll take both, please!
+SolidSmashies yeah they're kind of an American and a British version of the same tone
both amps are great, but especially the black magick sounds ace. so raw and ballsy! i can almost feel the air moving just by listening. great riffs again johan :)
+Da Faq Thanks! :-)
great video Johan!! the dual tone definitely has that more open sound with some extra upper mids present i think. I like them both, the black magic isn't too dark however i think for recording purposes the dual tone might be more versatile
+Wendell Laffin Thanks Wendell!
if I had to choose I would go for the dual tone. it has a special tone scooped rich, clear crunch
the kind of tone every guitarist seeks. blues heaven. I'm a big fan of your guitar playing Johan. :-D thumbs up mate.
+STEVE SHAW Thanks Steve, Really glad you like it! :-) Cheers Johan
You did it!! They both sound incredible. One of each, please.
Cheers! :-)
I wish this audio was everyone's hold music! You're playing through these Supro amps is very therapeutic. 😊
great to see them played together !
+Gerry Loughran Thanks Gerry!
+neuk01642 hahaha! that T-shirt ;-) really glad you watch the channel!! Cheers Johan
With a Swedish nature scene and a Marshall JMP stack.
Nice, i like both of their clean sounds and the dual for it's grind
+Penny Packer Thanks :-)
Beautiful playing, beautiful amps, beautiful scenery. I think Supro has my favorite tube break up of any amp.
Still the Black Magick for me.
+Gatpig Cheers!
I like the voice of the dual tone better, just sounds clearer and brighter
They both sound very nice. And great guitar playing too, thanx for sharing!
+NPGANDERSSON Thanks! :-)
I think i like the Dual Tone a little bit better. thanks for posting this comparison!
+Chris Krieg Thanks Chris!
Interesting. The Black Magick reminds me a lot of those early JTM45s you were sampling. Very round tone.
+jprg1966 Yeah both great for blues riffing :-)
I have a duotone but now I have to get the black magic as from this recording it has more balls. Love it :)
+Jon Gill Thanks I love it too :-)
Recently picked up the Dual Tone and love it. One of my favorite amps I've ever owned. How does it compare to the Coronado tonally? Might be interested in that one at some point.
Johan answers all the rock tone questions I ever had.
This is so well played, i wish there was an Album just like this.. "Instrumental Johan" :D
Great demo, as usual Johan! Would have loved to hear some single coil sounds - they really seem to work well with these Supro amps...
Thanks for making this video. I was wondering what the Black Magic sounded like compared to my Dual Tone. They both sound great but to me I think the Dual Tone is just a little more versatile. I think I will be keeping mine! Cheers!
+ADDICTED TO GEAR Cheers! Yeah the DT sounds the most like the original Supros
Johan...Once again great tones and choice riffs!
+Lee Morrison Thanks Lee! :-)
I like the landscape of your videos 🙌🍀🎶🌍
+Pedro Storms Thanks Pedro! I'm so glad to hear that. Cheers!
ur music makes me feel or vibe like im listening ti the doors. i dig it
Thanks, that’s a really nice compliment! :-)
Clean sound is so beautiful !!!
It is nice music and playing too :)
Some tasty playing you got going on there!
+Stanislas Dupart Glad to hear it, Cheers!
Got my black magick for 699! Sounds great.
Does the amp have distortion?
David Loza no master volume, distortion comes with volume
I literally just wanted to see a comparison, and one was posted 11 hours ago. Yes!
+Randall Yeager Haha telepathy you know ;-)
Johan, I'm a little late to this party but I'm curious, which has been your favorite Supro model?
COME ON JOHAN! Demo a nice Bogner Shiva once and for all! No one on the net seems to have one or want to review one!
Love your videos!!!
Didn’t think I was buying a new amp, until I heard this 👌
So glad to hear that! Cheers Johan
hmm, tough call, Dual Tone is more 'scooped' sounding the Black Magic a bit darker. I'd take one of each. :D
+Matt Evans haha :-) good call
Amazing demo Johan ! They both sound so nice ! I thought I would prefer Black Magick, but I love them both equally. Dual tone is spot on Jimmy Page ! Thanks ! : ) : ) : )
+Mitchell Ferre Thanks Mitchell!

Man, that Black Magick really gets the early Zeppelin sound down right.
+John Robie Thanks John!

+Randall Yeager I think they're both rather quiet in terms of noise. Didn't experiment that much with the tone controls of the DT, gonna take a look at that! Cheers
That Dual Tone pairs well with the Les. Maybe a Tele would be great with the Black Magic, or a treble booster.
Wow, you nailed it! I liked the black magic and ... Wow, the dual tone is so much more on Led Zeppelin ! That two guitars same player feeling. Amazing demo, and amp.
+e. tienne Thanks! Great to hear!
Both are great amps. Single coil pickups and Blackmagic. Humbuckers with the Dual Tone.
The dual Tone is Jimmy!
+Alistair Kinnear Thanks!
I thought I'd prefer the Black Majick but I ended up liking the Dual Tone more. It goes better with the coastal scenery too.
Another awesome vid mate the amps & playing sound great! I wanna get one of these not sure which tho can they get decent drive at lower volume with a boost? Cheers

Yeah, really cool power tubes, but at least here in Sweden there have been shortages of those at times.
Black Magick rocks! warm n Heavy, love your Zep moves
+Legend of the strings Thanks, yeah I'm a lucky bastard ;-) Cheers!
Dual Tone for me. Am I crazy? Where is the seascape video from? Beautiful.
+Mark Johnson Thanks Mark! :-) That's from the west coast of northern Denmark
Are you in Denmark or Sweden?
He seems pretty sure he's in Denmark ... ;P
Great playing Johan! Well, since I particularly like British style 70s rock 'n roll I say the Black Magick 😉
+JonasSweden1 Thanks Jonas! I actually preffered it too! :-)
Great !!!! I say you that dual tone is great amp !!! I love this sound !!! With my sg the sound is so loud ... impossible to play cranked :)
+Nicola Matera Thanks Nicola! :-)
That Dual Tone sounds Sweet ......What are your settings on it ?......Great presentation \-/
+Krzysztof VERITAE Thanks! I'm afraid I don't remember the settings.
Great demo as always
+Jarrett Bailey Thanks Jarrett!
great vid as always... missing the key ingredient the tele!
wow great amps wish I could buy the black majick....have to save some money now..I wonder how the supro drive pedal would sound next to the real thing? not as good probably... thanks Johan another great demo!
+chris pollard Hi Chris! Good to hear from you! I tried the Supro Fuzz and it sounded great but needed a fair amount of amp distortion under it to work well. Cheers
Hi Johan! Which sounded more Led Zep 1 to you ... the Corornado, or the Dual Tone?
And did you try them each with a Tele?!! ;D
Cheers bro!
Definitely separate voicings. I’d like to know the difference in their build. From my understanding they have the same pre and power tubes and two channel config. The dual tone sounds fuller with not as much muddy tone. Were you’re tone settings the same for both amps? Good video.
Nice amps, nice licks, nice shoreline
+Tom Thanks! It's in Lönstrup Denmark! Cheers
"How many more times" do you have to torture me with these amps! I prefered the Black Magick
+Lars Sig hahaha! You know your Zeppelin well, man! Cheers
Is this black magick with 6L6 tubes actaully?
I'm giving your comment a whole lotta love.
I like both, the black magic has more attack and sweet "sizzle" chime. I'm curious if they buzz a lot like the old class A amps. (vox ac 30 ect.)
+John Miller I think they're closer to Fender than Vox. The Black Magick de feels like a mix between Fender and Marshall
Both amps sound great. I’d say the Dual Tone takes it by a nose though. Nice playing Johan.👍
Hi Johan, do you know vintage Sinmarc Amps??, really cool amps for a review or test. Thanks.
AT 8.22 NO ONE EVER STUNG ONE NOTE SO WELL GREAT TOUCH
The dual tone seemed a lot clearer and brighter. The black magic was a lot darker and fatter. I LOVE BOTH! But i like the dual tone the best....now to save up for one.
+gibbanz22 Thanks! Love both too :-)
gibbanz22 The Dual Tone has one extra perk, being able to use both tone controls and blending those in addition to the volumes.
Dualtone through Input 2 is heaven
I always though that the best Supro was the Black Magick, but I might have to get one of those Dual Tones. If I could, I would get both, but I checked the prices online, and it seems to me that I can actually get a Dual Tone if i save up a couple of months. Great video Johan!
+Roberto Cabrera Thanks Roberto!
I wish Tech 21 would have done a Sansamp Character pedal for the Surpo line.
What are you using for the reverb? Is it plate added in post?? Sounds great. These amps don't have reverb do they?
Wondering if the right pedal setup can take a Dual Tone to Black Magick. Dual tone just seems a little more versatile and a little easier on the wallet.
+Jeff Loucks The primary difference between them is the American voiced speaker in the DT and the British voiced in the BM, so get the BM speaker too.
These are 2 of my 3 amps.
I think they both sound great and each one has a distinctive sound. But if I were going to buy one I would have to pick the Black Magick!
+Steven Babcock I actually bought that one. :-) Most of the Amps around here isn't mine though. Cheers
Black Magick for me man !!! where did u find a delaer in europe ?
+Tony Martinez I got these from 4Sound in Gothenburg
@Johan Segeborn, which one do you prefer? I’m sure it’s a much different experience being in front of the amp vs watching a RUclips clip...so I’d like to know your honest take.
The Dual Tone sounds more like inside of a metal can, when distorts... I prefer the rich tones of the Black Magick. Thanks for your videos, every time I have more clear my choice :)))
+eduardo navarro Thanks Eduardo, I'm glad the videos are put to good use! Cheers Johan
Hi Johan. Which do you think would cut through a mix better?!! Upper mids, etc ...
Cheers
I would love to see a comparison of these amps vs Marshall 1974x because I want to buy one of them
also does the dual tone sound that much brighter in the room?
Dual tone.....but mix of both will be answer....great sound from both!
+Dexter Dex Thanks! :-)
I already have a Dual Tone...have been considering a Black Magick ...but now maybe not...too similar...The BM is brighter too me but both sound great!
Looks like circuit board mounted tube sockets.
Great Demo!!! Thx
+Dejan Ilić Thanks Dejan!
No doubt the Dual Tone :-)
Sounds fantastic!
Johan you have got to split that signal and run both those amps at same time. mic'd separately. it has got to be amazing with the tones from those to amps blending together. video pleeeease???
+Bryan Keith Yeah that would probably sound cool
Wow Johan you were super inspired on this vid!
