In Part 1, a 2016 Gibson Les Paul R9 is used. Close mic Sennheiser MD421, dead center, Room mic AKG C414 B XLII Omni placed by the camera. Full volume and EQs as neutral as possible.
This may be the best demo I’ve ever seen. It’s like a dream scenario where several units are side by side and compared using the same music and not constantly changing each time the player changes amps to demo. Thanks!
Couldn’t agree more.

Thank you
Thank you. Give this man some piece of vintage gear
the bluescube sounds much better than I expected!
+Alec Sneed yeah to me too
I agree too.
I was skeptical about the Roland too, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. I was, however disappointed with the Orange, I thought it sounded thin and buzzy. The Bassbreaker & the Supro were my favorites with the Les Paul.
I agree too about the Roland. Wow, very surprising !
I think the Supro sounded best to my ears with that guitar. The Bassbreaker I really liked too.
Just my 2c.
Yep I thought it sounded best for sure!!
Dude can I just say I love your videos. I've come to the conclusion that they are some of the best on the net. Real tones & real playing from an obvious dedicated and impassioned player and fan 👍👌🤘
I agree - he's a cool guy, great player, and doesn't do the normal garbage that RUclips is rife with these days.
Finally some Peavey classic 30. :) It would have been nice to hear cleans too from all of these amps.
+Rämpyttäjä Thanks! Maybe we can do one of those later on! Cheers
Awesome demo! Liked them all but the Supro and the 3Monkeys really stood out for me.
+tim price Thanks Tim!
Am i the only 1 here who thinks that Roland Bluescube sounded great , especially with just the Mic. up close (as in live situations) great Playing Johan !
+Tjalling de Jong Thanks! No the Roland has received a lot of appreciation. Cheers
I saw this video a while back. I think all the amps sounded great. Sure I like some more than others but didn't really dislike any one them. I liked the Roland right away but now I'm blown away by it. I assumed Roland just made a tube amp. I had no idea that thing is solid state. Holy crap. Watched a bunch of other videos on that amp and it's just fantastic.
Tjalling de Jong The Roland Blues sound amazing! It's the most surprising amp with a warm and detailed sound. This was a great review with a fantastic line-up of combo's.
Me too
+wiserintime Most of it comes down to Johan being a great guitarist, so anything he plays is going to sound at least pretty good regardless of the gear he's using! Some of them definitely sing compared to others though!
I liked the SUPRO in this video
+motokev thanks
That Supro was incredible! The Blues cube was surprisingly very good too.
That little Peavey sounded great!! I also liked the Supro, the Vox and 12 monkeys.
Supro. Instant Jimmy Page.
Koch and Bassbreaker ... very nice.
same opinion here
SuperRoggerRabbit Koch for me too!!!
SuperRoggerRabbit You have a "good ear" there!
yep, Koch had the best overall sound, and you could tell that there was more on tap. Personally, these amp shoot outs never encompass a full variety of musical genres, so you never get a real idea of what the amp can do.
Bass breaker...sweet🇬🇧
Fantastic video Johan ... as always!
+rushyeskansas Glad to hear it! CHEERS
supro and bass breaker stuck out for me.
+Derek Anderson Thanks Derek!
By far mate they were the standouts.
Best ones for sure
Yea i was surprised that the Bassbreaker sounded that good, too bad its so darn ugly or at least look a bit cheap
I agree plus Vox
The blues cube is pretty surprising! Didn't expect that from a digital amp.
I liked most of them, but I really love the Bassbreaker and the AC15. That's great, since I have a Vox that's a bit like a Fender in its tone. Fantastic video. :)
I wanna have a beer with Johan and talk about amps and guitars! In no particular order, My favorites were the Bassbreaker, Supro, Koch, 3 Monkeys and the Vox... I sure was surprised by the Blues Cube, considering the heavyweights it contended with! Thanks for the comparisons, Johan, as always your vids are a blast to watch and listen to...
+Pasquale J. Algiere Thanks my friend!
Johan, you are either rich, a friend of someone who is or just plain crazy. You could also be a little of each. Anyway, YOU ARE THE MAN!!!! It's always a treat to see what you're up to next.
+Flyers 50 I'm afraid the answer is crazy :-)
Crazy is a good answer for just about everything. Keep it real, keep it rockin'!!!!
Na. Hes just rock n fucking roll bro
Superb comparison, thank you.
I'm listening to this again in 2019, and to my big surprise my preferences have changed a lot in a few years.
1) Fender Bass breaker 2) Vox AC15C1 3) Supro Black Magic
+renoman_ 89502 Thanks! Love the fender too
The Blues Cube sounds amazing
+Billy Icaza Yeah, since it's solid state and just a fraction of the price of the other amps it's a very potent amp
yeah RBC that's what i got ,sounds sweet - with my LP it's bit a dark - and some pedals didn't work fine with high gain (example: OCD) .. so that makes me think if ill keep it for blues and would need to get another amp for Rock and maybe brighter for my LP
I didn't realize it was solid-state, I thought these were all tube amps! It sounds incredible for a solid-state amp! Tech has come a *long* way since I started in the early 2000s.
The supro is clearly over the top
Wow! I am really impressed with the Fender BassBreaker. It outshines many of the amps you played. Great comparison.
+Rory Hawker Thanks Rory, yeah that's a favorite of mine too
Wow! I was really surprised at how that Bassbreaker sounded in comparison. Probably the best sound among all those amps to me.
I love that Supro! Koch and Engel great too. Orange has a very unique sound. Vox and Peavey best value winners for sure.
When I listen to these amps I think more about sound in the mix. I thought the supro had the sweetest tone. Very fucking pleasing to my ears.
Ironic considering your username!
Ah man, what a great video. Nice to hear all of them cranked. Keep these videos coming. I watch all of them.
+swirly gig So glad to hear that!
Thank you for putting that much effort in your videos. Wish every RUclipsr would go for that much quality!
+Cheook Thanks! So glad to hear it!
cool video, I'm impressed with the sound of the blues cube, but my favorite is the supro black magik
+Glen Herman Thanks Glen!
They all sound good.
+Patrick Carroll Thanks Patrick!
Your channel is the best. Natural sounding recordings, high end gear edited side by side and simple backing tracks. Just crank em up and we're off to rock school. Expertly done every time. One stop for any questions I have about what separates just about any classic rock gear.
How did I miss this great vid before!? Thanks Johan!
+Peli Mies Thanks! :-)
The most surprising thing to me is how the Bugera kicked the snot out of the Dr. Z!
I was surprised at how good the Bugera sounded in comparison with the others!
Johan, I just want to say thanks to you, your videos are extremely good and they are such a help for all of us amplifier fanatics! Great stuff! Have a wonderful weekend my friend,
+SQUAREHEAD64 You too my friend! Cheers
I love this video, that was the best head to head I've seen- mega helpful and love the tune you were playing !!!! I think my faves were the Roland blues cube, marshal Astoria, and the orangutan ....
+Music Thanks! I'm so glad to hear that! Cheers Johan
Supro, Vox, and Fender - you couldn't go wrong with either, loved the Supro though. Good video.
I'm guessing the quote for the next few days was, "Whaaaa?" : )
+Paul Simmons Hahaha! Yeah many of these amps were surprisingly loud
Same for me with a slight edge to the Fender. I've liked all the demos of that amp I've heard. The Bugera was the worst by far for me...
I'm a Peavey classic 30 owner, and its a great amp. Even better if you plug in a 16ohm 2x12 into the ext. speaker jack. Awesome tone.
Chrismayo1981 me too but I run it instead of a clean channel alongside a bandit 112 :) long live Peavey!! ha ha
This is how it is done!!! Great job!! Everyone should appreciate the fact you give everything the best possible sound. None of this, flating an eq, to the point of disgracing something.
+LEWIS MAXFIELD Thanks man! Really glad to hear that!
Fantastic video, Johan. Thank you for sharing it. That must've taken quite some time !!
Rock on, mate \m/
+Ray Torvalds Thanks Ray!
The Kock Twintone MkIII had the most personality. The Roland Bluescube- transistor wonder has been mind blowing in every comparison video I've seen. The Supro is the studios best friend. The 3 Monkeys Orangutan is a no frills, old school, loose dampened speaker, lion growler. The Marshall Astoria Classic is undoubtedly more expensive than better sounding lower priced Marshall's, and we all know which one. The Orange AD30 just reminds me of why that sound needs 4-12"s and 70 more Watts of oranges! The Fender Bassbreaker 18/30 is a pretty amp with a split personality...the 4-el84, and 2-el34 config's I've seen, the EL tubes just don't go with electrolytic capacitors on the cathodes of the preamp tubes [too 'spitty'], as is ubiquitous in every 6L6GC & 6V6 Fender amp. Also IMHO they should have put Jensen speakers in the 4-EL84 models.
The Bassbreaker and the Peavy sounded best to me. I love your gear demos!
+Bryan Neuber Thanks man! Glad to hear it. Cheers
The Supro was sweet! Followed by the Bass breaker. Great demo as always!
Maaan your content is so cool!! Thank you, great video 👌🏼
If I wasn't sold on the Bassbreaker before, I am now.... :D
+pterantula Glad to hear it! :-)
Just got the 15 watt head. Worth every penny
Just bought the 15 watt combo. It's my first ever tube amp and I'm completely blown away. Sounds nice paired with my new 60s jazzmaster.
I had a Bassbreaker 15 but the power tubes kept blowing so I returned it. Nice amp when it worked though.
I have to say I was really impressed by the BluesCube! The Supro was actually my favorite though.
+Christopher Mondy Thanks man!
I was definitely feeling the Fender, Three Monkeys, ENGL & shocked by how good the Koch sounded!
I watched this video 2 hours ago and I still hear that blues progression non-stop in my head... lol
Hahaha, sorry about that ;-)
I thought you were going to play them all at once :(
+DexterGTR Hahaha! That's actually a good idea.
How awesome does that Bassbreaker sound for that price! the Supro was really the belle of the ball. Amazing guitar sound. Honorable mention for the 3 Monkeys, Blues Cube (rhy sound more)
I really had a distaste for the Koch, Engl, PEavy, Marshall, Vox, Z, Bugera and Orange.
+The Guitar Geek Thanks!
The Guitar Geek i think exactly the same!
Wash your mouth out! That Vox sounded killer!
I thought the Koch sounded great
In my humble opinion i would rate the Supro as no. 1. Then Bassbreaker and Marshall. I own an AC 15, but those 3 beat that.
Again, awesome vid man! Been going through all your vids, so much content and knowledge ahah one at a time i guess -_- Wish you had access to more viewers really.. Keep having fun and entertaining us poor souls
+Kev “RootsAndRadioheads” Musicluva Thanks man, I'm really glad you like the videos
I love this video... perfect. Just makes my decisions that much more difficult. Well done. New sub here btw.
I really liked the sound of the Bassbreaker, very rich and complex 👍
+Ernesto Del Baño Thanks! I did too
Liked: ENGL, Supro, Fender, Marshall, Koch, Peavey
Didn't Like: Bugera, Dr Z, Orange, VOX, Roland
+Gary Dotson Thanks!
Wow, do we have the same ears? Between the ones you liked, I would have to do a comparison to choose my winner. I do say though, the only amp that sounded truly bad to me was the Bugera. The Dr. Z was very disappointing. Orange to me was just passable. Vox was alright. Finally, the Roland, exceeded expectations but couldn't match up to the stand outs.
Gary. Sobers
What a great review! And I love how you guys included the Blues Cube
OMG thank you so much for not post editing! hate going to amp comparisons that have been post edited making them all sound the same
Thanks for this! My $.02: Fender Bluesbreaker, Dr. Z, Blues Cube (not necessarily in that order). Must have been hard to try to adjust tone controls to sound "the same".
+PC160 Thanks! We set them all on twelve o clock EQ wise and full volume :-)
Yes i must agree with the fender and the roland but id take the koch instead of the dr z
The Bassbreaker is the amp to love in this pile of combos. I really wanted the Astoria to shine, but Fender has began to take back their cranked modded Bassman sound. Rightfully so. There's nothing like a Marshall, other than a cranked modded Bassman. ;>
That was a great video. well worth the effort! keep up the good work!
+dan peck Thanks Dan! Glad you liked it!
The Supro sounds so gorgeous on the lead parts that you played.
But I am very surprised about the Engl ! Wow ! ..usually we see that brand in metal band , but it rocks ! Awesome comparison ! Thanks dude .
Blues Cube holds up well.
Blues cube great sound. Bass breaker and the killer tone was the supro. Most disappointing was the Doctor Z
+Dai Jones thanks, yeah I expected more from the DrZ. But we ran all amps on full volume, and maybe some of them has their Sweet spot at a lower gain setting. Cheers Johan
Dai Jones it sounded awful!
FANTASTIC DEMO! And damn, I need a Bassbreaker!
i know i have 2 say it Everytime. jesus your groove time is amazing bro thx for the motivation.
+Tone Fingerz Thanks! I'm really glad to hear that!
I Like them all !! exept the Bugera Vintage Grrrrrr anoying grit.
+Alain Brisebois Thanks :-)
My vote is for the Roland BC. Orange and Fender after that. Cheers!! And Thanks!
+D John Barr Cheers!
Are you being sarcastic ? Lol. I really cant tell ?
My top 3
No.1 - Supro
No. 2 - Marshall Astoria
No. 3 - Fender Bassbreaker
The Peavey sounded very good at single notes / soloing! Nice GAS-making vid, Johan. Thanks!
Love that Black Magic!!!
+Marshall Voodoo thanks!
Johan, I really Love your videos Brother. I appreciate all the hard work you put in them. Thanks!
Factoring in price, my choices would be between the Fender, the Roland, and the Peavey. Some of the others sound better, but are double/triple the price.
Supro Black Magick for me !!! Thanks Johan l : )
+Mitchell Ferre Thanks man! :-)
Hi Johan, listened to Section 1 so far. Two amps clearly stood out to my ears, Marshall Astoria and the Supro. Cheers Jonas
+JonasSweden1 Thanks Jonas! Cheers
Man that Supro sounds great. I got to play the 45watt Bass breaker this past weekend and it sounds fantastic.
+JonesHvac Thanks! yeah those are great amps
the dr. Z...what a letdown.. same for the orange
+klepetar yeah those didn't have a sweet spot a full volume
I agree, I was surprised.
You could tell he had the Orange EQ'd to taylor more to his ideal tone. They're bass heavy and monstrous sounding. Not an ideal blues amp, but an excellent stoner/doom amp.
The Dr Z sounded like a toy. Fender was best for me.
F dr z
Very impressed by the Roland Blues Cube! Was expecting a massacre from the real tube amps. It sounded way better than Dr Z, Marshall. I would pick 1- Supro; 2 - Fender; 3 - Roland. Great vid and thanks for sharing!
+Rafael Lago Thanks Rafael!
Amazing channel and what a great, great video comparison .... Liking the Supro & Fender thanks👍🎸
Thanks Simon, glad you like it!
Excellent demonstration! My wife and I had this blasting on our stereo really loud! We were dancing around like a couple fools! Great fun!
Supro and Peavey
To my ears the Supro is clearly the best sounding on rhythm and lead with the Bassbreaker following close behind. For that kind of money the Fender amp is a no brainer to me. Nice job man, really cool video :) Edit: Honorable mention to the Peavey, what a killer little amp it is.
Used Peavey might be the best choice for good sound on cheap. Or Laney AOR. Or old Usa Crate.
The real killer is the price spread on all these amps. I guess you don't always get what you pay for. I'm very interested to hear the other guitars but I'm pretty certain my feeling aren't going to change much considering the amount of demos I've already listened too.
fender? this is what i think is a seriously good sounding amp.
+ArielsSmartyPants Thanks! The Bassbreaker is gonna become a modern classic for sure.
+kumpiz Yeah the Peavey is great but note that it has a Creamback rather than the stock speaker. Cheers
Fantastic playing Johan. Absolutely brilliant. love it thanks very much. Hope to hear more.
Awesome video! IMO the Fender Bassbreaker and Peavey Classic sounded the best all around to my ears. The Koch had an excellent lead tone though!
+Michael Chevy Thanks, yeah the bassbreakers are great amps
My top three are the Engl, the Vox, and the Orange. I was deeply disappointed in the anemic sound of the Dr. Z. The Vox was a complete surprise & the Orange is great for heavier tones. Bias alert - I play a Carr in real life, but my backup is an Orange Tiny Terror. I like that (admittedly ideosyncractic) sound.
+chadward Thanks ;-)

awesome video, johan.. thanks so much for doing this.. I've been in the market for a new amp.. think I'm gonna get a bassbreaker!..
+the arlington nationals Thanks! That's a good choice :-)
Johan Segeborn I also checked out your pedal shootout and just ordered a way huge overrated special..
+the arlington nationals That was my fav too. That lower mid boost is very nice
This was really nice of you to do. I’m sure it took a long time
Haha aw that poor Bugera.
Like a wasp in a Jar
Still not as bad as the Dr. Z
I agree the Dr. Z was the worst
TheNohcim , the bugera can sounds better, the clean is great, for a good overdrive a good pedal with an EQ and it's another story..., but i agree in the video it doesn't sound good (the highs could have been tamed, more mids would have been better too...), the way you EQ the amp make a lot of differences i think...
The problems of the bugera in this video: bad standard speaker, bad standard tubes, plugged on the normal input instead of the bright input that is made for humb, it sounds best as pedal platform on the clean channel, gain on 10 isn't its sweet spot
great video, seems like a lot of work, but fun work hehe
+Carlos Reyes Thanks! Yeah it's a couple of days work :-)
You had to work hard! The result is very impressive! It was very interesting and great! As someone who owns a Peavey Classic 30 and loves it very much, I quite naturally liked the Peavey. Although each amplifier has its own peculiarity. Each has its own task. Thank you
The Bassbreaker and the Supro sounded best to my ears..the Bassbreaker especially..thanks for the wonderful demo!
+Gary Michaud Thanks Gary!
Supro and Peavey!
+André Carvalho thanks
quite surprisd bout the results. the roland was way better than expected, while the bugera was the weakest. for me the supro and the fender share the #1 spot. would have been great to have heard a deluxe reverb in there :-)
+LaLa Tra Thanks, yeah that's a more classic fender amp
Hey Johan, love your vids. A bit different and always fun!
+Jim71 Thanks Jim!
Thanks for that goodness. Great job again. Had smiles the whole vid long... lol
Thanks, great to hear that!
fender and vox for the win, bugera best for the buck ;)
+Rick Johnes Yeah I was surprised by the tone of the Bugera. Sounds great on the clean channel.
Roland and bass breaker
The Supro sounds amazing!
A big thanks !!! , Amazing comparison !!!.
+malcolm mccoll Thanks Malcolm!
Fender Bassbreaker, Marshall Astoria Classic, Roland Blues Cube
Classic 30 was really nice! I had no idea it was so good.
+Shawn T. Bell Thanks, this one had a Creamback instead of the original speaker though.
It’s so funny how different tastes are. I liked some amps that some other people also liked, but at the same time I did not like some of the ones they mentioned at all.
Anyway, thanks so much Johan for putting these videos up. Also thanks for playing so much rhythm guitar! I see a lot of people noodling for days but that just doesn’t show every aspect of a guitar amp, so I really appreciate it.
+Rick Biessman Thanks Rick, yeah Rhythm is 99% of most songs ;-) Cheers
+Rick Biessman Thanks Rick, yeah Rhythm is 99% of most songs ;-) Cheers
nice job you guys. great videos!
+Dale daddy Thanks Dale!
