I bought a used 2002 Classic 30 about 15 years ago and have struggled with it ever since trying to get the sound i wanted. Clean channel was okay with my strat but the drive channel always seemed way too muddy with anything with humbuckers (LP, SG, etc). I always hear players raving about their C30's but I figured I just had a lemon. Just this week Ive been contemplating selling it. BUT WAIT!!! You have your mid at 12? I never tried that. I stopped this vid half way through and plugged in... matched your settings and... HOLY CRAP!!!! I never heard it GROWL like that before!!! You just saved my amp. Forever in your debt. BTW, awesome playing my friend. Night Prowler is #1.
Thanks so much Mark, so glad I can help, yeah those settings are such a deal breaker, I literally never touch them these days, such a satisfying sound, so much clarity with a Les Paul! I find it such an inspiring sound, they are such fantastic amps, have fun playing it, and thank you ever so much for watching and commenting, appreciate it! 😎🎸🤘
A friend had me try his Classic 30 the other day and I fell in love immediately! Was playing my Les Paul and it had the best natural gain sound I've heard, at least from my own playing anyway. I will be buying one of my own! Thanks for the vid!
Heya Christopher, that's so good to hear, can't recommend these amps highly enough, hugely underated, more people need to know about them, just magic with a Les Paul, thanks for watching!🤘🎸😁
@@AndyDoveGuitar Something that I missed at first is that you're playing a Les Paul thru tube screamer type pedals at times, with the mids all the way up on the amp... Unreal. I would have thought that it wouldn't sound so full with everything rather directed toward the mids, but it sounds epic! I am going to have to rethink my pedal board once I get one of these amps for myself!
@@christopherburnett1745 thanks Christopher, yeah I know on paper it does sound crazy, but in reality with this set up it's killer! I honestly do that with most Amps I own, just the way I've always done it, amazing how responsive those settings are on this amp tho, can't recommend them enough, you'll be surprised how well that works! And yeah I just use a tube screamer type pedal here and there when I want more gain/sustain, but I try to keep it as subtle as I can, more a volume boost then adding tonnes of gain. As the amp already sounds great by itself, so it's just a bit of seasoning! Let me know when you get one and what settings you find work for you! 😎🎸🤘
@@AndyDoveGuitar Thanks Andy! As it turns out that friend of mine has a second one, in black tolex rather than tweed, and he's willing to sell it!! I have to make sure that it sounds like his tweed one (I'd imagine it would), but I may have my own sooner than I thought! I'll definitely let you know how I set it and what pedals I'm using. Gotta rethink my whole board now! Lol!
Thanks ever so much Neil, they really are aren't they! Love the tones I get out of it with my les Paul's, but sounds great whatever you plug into it! And you are super lucky to have that one, lovely bit of kit, I've only ever seen them in photos! 🤘 🎸 🎶
7:58 - The boost function on this amp is very useful when playing with a band. It boosts the midrange of your tone so that when you play at band volume with other instruments the guitar comes through better. This helps avoid the painful high end that comes from simply cranking the volume.
this amp made me cry. played through a vox 412, plugged a double p90 squier vintage modified tele custom in and the clean channel just made me cry. couldn't believe it was my playing that sounded this nice. i have played all sorts of expensive amps, all i want is this thing.
I have this model too. About the only effect I use on it. Is a clean boost, once in awhile. I love this video, you really give this amplifier justice. This amp really flu under the radar. With a lot of players. Great video Andy, and even better guitar playing.👍✌️
@@Foofang65 thanks again Jamie, really appreciate it, yeah you are spot on, such an underrated amp, highly rate these and recommended them to hundreds of people over the years, mine is still going strong too, thanks again for taking the time to comment! 😎🤘
Thanks so much for watching Harvey, yeah they are fantastic workhorse amps. I love them, built to last too! Yeah the whole no gig thing is really frustrating, I miss it too! Hopefully we can be back to playing live again soon 🤘
Excellent. An amp demonstration that the demonstrator actually knows songs. Instead of some guy endlessly noodling. Thanks. Oh ya, what a great sounding amp. Excellent demonstration.
Great video! Great playing! I've had a Classic 30 bought new in 94. Loved it from day one but I did love it more when I put a vintage Greenback in. Creamy distortion at low volumes, made a great amp greater.
Thanks ever so much Peter, yeah they are phenomenal amps, so versatile, I absolutely love that drive channel, it can do it all, and cleans up wonderfully! That's a great tip on the Greenback, I'll bear that in mind! 🤘😎
@@matouscervenka7248 I've read about pro musicians that overpower their speakers to get that natural breakup at lower volumes. I've had the greenback in that amp now since about 1998 with no issues. It's only a 5 watt discrepancy so it probably doesn't matter. Maybe if you had the Peavey on 10 all the time, it would matter but I never play that loud.
I realize that this was from 2 years ago, but great video! I just picked up a Classic 30 and was wondering how to get the most out of it. You covered everything I needed to know and awesome playing to boot. It really shows that tone is in your fingertips and you don't need lots of pedals and add-ons to sound good.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting Jon, really appreciate it, yeah you are spot on, this amp is fantastic, it's genuinely made me a better player to focus more on letting the fingers do the talking and worry less about pedals! Hope you enjoy your classic 30, fantastic amps! 😎🎸
@@AndyDoveGuitar After hearing your demo, I had to learn the Thin Lizzy Jailbreak riff on my own Classic 30. It really nails the sound of the record and is 10 kinds of fun to play.
Yup that is that Peavy sound. I have both the 50watt 2x12 and that 30 watt version. Both sound amazing but I always go for the 30watt for the warm nice clean, great overdrive and because it’s lighter 😅. Plus it does very well with pedals. If you can’t buy a fender due to cost definitely go for this Peavey you will not be disappointed. Great video by the way.
Thanks ever so much Pablo, yeah phenomenal amps aren't they, couldn't agree more great drive channel and a lovely clean too! More people need to know about these amps, I was always tempted by the classic 50, but yeah totally get you on the small footprint and ease of transportation on the 30, thanks again for watching 😁🎸
Just bought a gently used early 2000s Classic 30. Fantastic amp all around. I generally avoid mids like the plague. It really does growl when the mids are cranked. I would have never tried that. Thanks!
I've been gigging on one since 2011, and I'd rather fight than switch. Because I play a lot of country and rockabilly (gain on 5, maybe a little Dyna Comp or slap Delay), I'd never really explored it's more dirtbag denim rock sounds. Holy Heck! It does them beautifully. Your Night Prowler made me smile. It's refreshing to hear a great player doing a product demo. Cheers!
Thanks ever so much Danny, really appreciate that, and yeah it sounds marvelous for all the classic rock stuff, Night Prowler is one of my faves from that album, and this amp really does it justice. Yeah deffinitley explore that gain channel with those settings in the video, its brilliant, and always brings a smile to my face playing on this amp! 😎🎸
After a ton of dear amps I came across the humble 30 and was blown away by the overdrive. I now just plug straight in and turn down the volume to raspy clean/crunch. This works especially well if you have a treble bleed cap. Reverb is good too. Peavey are like Ferraris with Skoda badges... if you know what I mean..!
Thank you ever so much, and I know exactly what you mean. I think it's easy to dismiss Peavey as being a metal amp brand, or that brand that always makes PA's, but yeah the classic range is something else! Literally lives up to its name, they are phenomenal amps, perfect for dialing in those blues and classic rock tones, love the reverb on it. Thank you ever so much once again for watching! 🤘🎸
"Ferrari with Skoda badge" .... perfect analogy for these amps !! I am a "fat clean to light crunch" player and with the post up, pre about 9 - 10 o'clock it sounds killer. The boost function was really not covered here, but engaged with the aforementioned clean settings it is glorious, especially with single coils. The boost acts like a Fulltone Fat Boost ... it's a "more" switch. Incredible sonics for the price point. Thanks for the video, great riffs Andy !!
Thanks so much for sharing that with us David, they really are great amps ain't they! Super great tones, easy to dial in and reliable as ever, thanks so much for watching 😊🎸🎶
@@AndyDoveGuitar One of the best sounds ever, and has its own uniqueness which is very valuable in a world of Marshall-like and Fender-like amps. Also easy to use and reliably stunning at "mad drummer" volume on stage. Your video made me miss this amp more and more! Need to invest in another! Mine was a '95 I think, it survived unbelievable rigors on the road :)
Can't sing their praises highly enough, you should deffo get another 😊 I deffinitley won't be parting with mine at all! Have you seen the Delta Blues amp they do with the 15 inch speaker? And built in tremelo, be interesting to check that one out 🎸🎶🤘
@@AndyDoveGuitar I've never heard a Delta Blues before, it always seemed like a smaller, less powerful and more expensive version lol. I'm probably super wrong I know... :) I'm a bit limited in budget during the corona episode so relying on an Ipad and Amplitube IOS, it does a great rendition of some nice and naughty blues amps including the 65 Super Reverb and 1963 Deluxe, very fun while I don't have my beloved Peavey lol
Yeah I've never tried a delta blues myself, but I know a guy who has one and raves about it, so would deffinitley be interesting to try one out, not that I need any more amps 😂 lucky the classic 30s are usually readily available second hand at good prices, yeah the Amplitude stuff is great, amazing how much the technology has come on these days! 🤘
Nice old-school Fleetwood Mac riffs dude! Glad to see someone still appreciating the Peter Green era! Considering getting a Classic 50 and ya might have sold me with this video 👌
Ahh thanks ever so much Jimmy, always loved Peters tone and off course his brilliant playing and writing. That's great thinking, honestly you'll be super satisfied with it, fantastic amp for blues rock, can't recommend this series highly enough 😁🎸🎶
Oh my Goodness man you made playing my classic 30 fun again. I watched countless vids and could not get a sound that I really, really loved. That is until I tried your settings and man o man my classic 30 sounds amazing!!!! I do have some mods on it like speaker (Warehouse Reaper) and the reverb tank & JJ tubes.....THANKS!!!!!
Ahh that's awesome, so glad you found my video and were able to fall in love with it again, such an incredible workhorse amp with killer tones, thanks for watching! 🎶🎸
High Andy ! Neither I can recommend Peavey Classic amp line highly enough! Personally I have two Classic 50 212 from the early -90's ( with loop ) which I love deeply , and that bring a BIG smile on my face everytime I use them. Cleans are glorious, and when you hit the lead channel, you are just blown away by the massive roar a'la classic rock on steroids. This is helped quite a bit by 1) putting an EQ pedal in the loop with "bath tub shaped curve" on the low end side only, and 2) extension cabinet hooked up in parallell ( 212 or 115 Celestion Fullback, ending up in 2*212 or 212+115) After having bought my 1st , black one , early last autumn (via Reverb from Sicily, since non for sale in Sweden by the time ) I realized after a month or so that both my Marshall DSL40C and my JMP 2204 -80 412-rig had been totally unused , and a month after that were still so, so I sold both of them. Non of them were able to give the same thrill and joy as the Peavey does.... What totally sold me for those marvellous amps were: ruclips.net/video/H54b9dHPZVo/видео.html at 0:53..... ruclips.net/video/2sGirbDYzjU/видео.html Cheers, Magnus, Gothenburg
@@Graywoolf25 Hi Pablo, and thanks for comment! After having heard Mike Burn demoing the Classic 50, saying it is totally awesome, but may be percieved as slightly restrained in bottom end, I put an EQ pedal in the loop, lifting the low end, and hooked up a 115 closed cabinet in parallell. Holy f -- cking cow!! Then I knew, this is a forever keeper! Cheers , Magnus
Thanks ever so much Bob, really appreciated as always! It's a lovely guitar, I was very lucky to find it, and pairs great with this amp, thank you for watching 😁🎶🎸
I gigged a couple Classic 30s for around 10 years. I put Celestion V30s in them and they sounded sweet and were reliable! Great playing!! And that Les Paul sounds phenomenal!
I have a Classic 30 LTD and a production line Tolex Classic 30. Both have the speakers changed to Celestion Vintage 30. Amps of my dreams. Use nothing but the clean channels on about 4 with tone adjustments to fit the venue. All the way from jazz guitars straight in to Pauls/ Strats/ Teles/ and more playing through pedals. I used half stacks and modelers for years but noting comes close to the feel and tone of the Classic 30. Bear mind that I have been playing since 1969 and the amount of distortion I go for is not the same as younger players. Much more blues/ rock sound. I’ve used everything from PA amps with modeling pedals to a double stack but these amps are the best for me.
Thank you!!!! I have this amp and same guitar!!! I'm an old beginner. Haven't used it, because I purchased another with all the digital bells and whistles, but after hearing you and your settings, I didn't know it could sound this good, blows the digital one out of the water. Thank you, I have liked and subscribed!!!
Ahh thank you ever so much, glad you found this video and appreciate you liking and subscribing! These two make an incredible set up, sometimes less is more! It's nice to have all the digital bells and whistles when you need it, but yeah I've always been an old school, tube amp and good guitar kinda guy, these are phenomenal amps simple and reliable, awesome classic rock tones, hope you have fun with the settings! 😎🤘
I used to turn my nose up at Peavey, until I heard one of the classic 30's. I just added the 112-E extension cabinet. If I had a gripe about the classic 30 it's that it runs hot. The tubes are under the circuit board so the heat rises up to the control panel and it gets hot. Not burn yourself hot, but it gets your attention.. I run a small fan behind it.
Thanks for watching Allen, I have the extension cab too, love them together, and I think many people are in the same boat really and dismiss Peavey as being a metal/hard rock brand, but yeah this classic 30/50 range is absolutely fantastic, crazy versatile too. Good idea on the fan by the way, they certainly heat the room up! 🎸😁
Very good demo of the capabilities of this amp. Great Chops! Thanks! Just picked up mine for a great price. Waiting for my son to deliver if for me. Will be the little brother to my Classic 50 2x12. Rock On!
I have had a C30 I bought back in 2003 that has been used for dozens of gigs, rehearsals and jams...it has NEVER let me down. In my case I like using the 'boost' feature as it cuts back a bit on the mids but slightly increases the overall volume and overdrive. I swapped out the Blue Marvel for a Vin 30 within weeks of getting it and have found with pedals it will cover just about anything you'd want...from clean to crunch to hard rock. I usually will stack an OD with a Distortion pedal and have gotten all kinds of compliments on what this little 1x12 beast can do. Great demo! Thanks!
@@jdmarti100 Actually I will mostly use the OD channel with the pedals, but the beauty is you can still back everything down if you want, including backing off the guitar volume. It's great using the pedals on the clean channel as well, of course. I just prefer a little more OD because of the classic Hard rock I normally play, but as I've said and the video demo indicates it covers just about everything.
Just got me a Peavey Classic 30 head to go with mij 112 cabinet and it gets me an amazing tone and responsiveness. Just an awesome amp and it is said to be very sturdy also. This one is for keeps, I am sure.
Picked up an old Classic 30 from the 90's a couple of weeks ago. Yes, great little amp! I decided to add an EQ pedal in the loop, as I find it a bit dark for my taste, punch up the upper-mids a bit for some cut and brightness. Kills my Blues Jr- which is now for sale!!
Got one about 15 yrs ago. Bedroom band use…I put a Celestion 30 in it and an AY7 in V1. It sounds very nice and has a better distortion I think. Everybody loves it except the wife, when it gets a bit loud. Cheers.
Watching this video sold me on picking up the used Classic 30 at my local guitar shop. It sounds amazing. Now only if I could tear it up like you. Great demo and great playing!!
Ahh thanks so much Chris, really appreciate it! Yeah I can't recommend these amps highly enough, more people need to know about them, proper workhorse amps, and they can be picked up at great prices second hand, let me know if you get one! 🎸🤘
Yeah they really are fantastic amps, love mine to bits, I'm always so inspired when I'm plugged into that drive channel with a Les Paul, pure magic! 🤘😎
I've gotten more into my Les Paul Jr and a tweed deluxe. Killer tone.i had the first 5150 Peavey and blew the valves playing Eddie's riffs without a regulator.
I love the classic series amp I love the classic 30 but the classic 20 combo IT is m'y amp To Play the clean but the Drive i love all those sound great video !
Cool video cheers dude. Just got one of these secondhand and put a g12-65 in it. I have the blue marvel in a cab now and it sounds unbelievably great for the money. My first tube amp and I’m sure I’ll have it for the rest of my days. Peace ✌️ from Ireland 🤘
Heya Peter, so pleased you are happy with it, they really are fantastic amps for the money, dare I say the best budget tube amp?! Second hand especially they are great value! Deffinitley a keeper for life, I always get great tones no matter what I plug into it! Enjoy, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 😊🎸🎶
Not directly into the subject, but I love the yellowed aged binding on the Les Paul Custom. Thank God, I finally bought one (it was my dream guitar) and I'm playing it everyday and keeping outside the case to go from original white binding to yellow.
Thanks so much, yeah I'm totally with you on that, the aged binding just really gives it a classic look. When I was hunting a custom down I made sure I waited to get the right one, took forever, but this is a 1993 57 reissue, absolutely love it, really nicely worn in too, playing through the finish on the back of the neck in places now. When you find the right one they really are dream guitars! 🤘 🎸 🎶
Thanks for vid Andy! We have got alot of the same taste in tone and music even our style and freaking guitars are the same! I really appreciate the vid and the shout out!
No problems at all Austin, so pleased it helped out, yeah deffinitley have similar taste, I checked out your Phil Collen guitar video by the way, super cool that is! 🤘 🎸 🎶
Thanks so much, ahaa that's awesome, well if you ever fancied an online lesson I've been doing them on Skype since the first Lockdown in England, they work really well, just get in touch with me on my social media or email me at andydoveguitar@gmail.com really appreciate you subscribing, thank you for watching my videos and taking the time to comment!😎🎸
Awesome video Andy. Love your demonstration on how to craft different tones. I am a Peavey Classic 30 owner and will use your suggestions to improve my guitar tone. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Yeah the 20 looks brilliant, especially with all the extra options like you say, great bit of kit, not tried one myself yet, but I bet it's great, thanks for watching, still love this classic 30, it's a fantastic workhorse amp! 😎🤘
I just picked one up. Blue Marvel Speaker is just fine for me. I have a marshall head, too. They sound similar and not at all. To me anyway. It can sound like the rolling stone to the pistols to faces. I like the gain on the amp, too. I never know how im going to like something until its in my house. For some reason probably built in acoustics, but they don't always sound the same at the house. But this one is a keeper.
My dad just handed down to me his 73’ les paul deluxe, and im looking for the perfect small “lounge around the house “ combo amp to go with it, and I think this is it. This video sealed the deal. Awsome tone and playing! Ps….i wish you would’ve demo’d the boost funtion, even though you don’t use it.Alot of us im sure are at least curious about how it sounds.
Oooh that's a great guitar, love the Les Paul deluxes, always makes me think of Scott Gorham! Yeah apologies about that, I totally didn't think, but will bear it in mind if I ever do another video on it. As you'd expect it's a boost with a shift in the mids, it sounds totally fine, just the way I have the EQ set, I just love the drive channel exactly how it is and never want to alter a thing! Goes without saying, different guitar, and different players will get varied results, but either way it is a fantastic amp, and you can get brilliant classic rock tones with clarity at sensible volumes. You can hear it pairs with a Les Paul brilliantly, so couldn't recommend a better amp for you. Let me know how you get on if you go for it, and thanks again for watching! 🤘😎
@@AndyDoveGuitar Yeah the amp was just delivered last night. I took out in the garage and fired it up,and yeah, this is the amp i was looking for. I have all different flavors of heads for gigging, but this amp is really great for what i need(and then some!). It likes to be turned up though…lol. Really impressed with it.Thanks again for the video,it really helped me in deciding. Thanks
@@Boogieplex ah I'm so pleased it arrived safely and you've got it set up, yeah they really are fantastic amps, and really versatile too. The clean channel is great, buy like I say in the video it's all about that drive channel, especially with an old Les Paul!! Love it, so glad this video helped you, thanks again for watching and commenting, enjoy your new toy! 😎🎸
I enjoy my Peavey Delta Blues, which is simply a Classic 30 with tremolo and a 15-inch speaker. I generally play clean-ish, with an equalizer in the effects loop and an attenuator in line with the speaker so that I can get proper power-tube distortion on-demand. I've been experimenting with a compressor between its input and the guitar; the jury is still out on that. With the equalizer, tube-rolling is moot because any tonal change caused by changing tubes can be compensated with the equalizer, and then some. I've never been let down by using Peavey amplifiers.
Thank you so much Jussi, really appreciate that, and yes it's a fantastic amp, so glad I made this video, as more people need to know about this brilliant amp!! 🎸🎶
The only piece of gear I regret ever parting with, was my Classic 30. I just didn't appreciate it for what it was, and how incredible it sounded at the time. I really wish I still had it.
Thanks for watching Charles, yeah I must say it's one of my best ever gear purchases, what an amp to have as your first tube amp too! Simple, portable, robust, and phenomenal sounds! They are always going for reasonable prices on the second hand market, keep an eye out if you are tempted by another! 😎
Hello. One question, I have a good deal on a peavey 30. My question is: I live in a flat and I don't want to be shot by my neighbours. Can I get good tones out of the peavey with a low volume? I trust your recommendation. Best wishes and thanks for your time (I play a Gretsch 6120)
If you look real close, you'll see that the knobs all go to 12. Right across the board. These go not just one louder, but two louder! Had a Classic 50 for years, got a Classic 30 and sold the 50. Best tone ever between those two amps, but I think the 30 has the edge on tone due to the earlier breakup. I sold the 50 because it's a big, heavy, loud amp, which is something that isn't really necessary any more. 30 watts is plenty for just about any stage, especially now with modern monitoring systems. I sorta maybe miss my Classic 50, but only because I had it for so long...the 30 pretty much fills the void, and it's almost the same vintage (2003, US made). Has pretty much the same vibe to it, almost the same sound, and a LOT easier to tote around. I personally love the tone of these amps, the preamp overdrive is thick and gooey and not fizzy, which is very unusual. It's like they found a way to make preamp overdrive to more closely mimic power stage overdrive. And the clean channel is nice and punchy and compressed. It's especially good with an SSS Strat due to the thick midrange and compression. Not sure it's my favorite HB amp, but it is definitely my favorite strat amp by miles and miles, and I'm primarily a strat player any more. And they sound good at low volume. And they have one of the better effects loops I've encountered with no noticeable difference in volume or tone when pedals are inserted in the loop, unlike the 2 DSL Marshalls I've owned, both of which had noticeable signal degradation when using their effects loops.
Thanks so much John, yeah they are brilliant amps, tones to die for, know what you mean, I feel I can get fairly nice tones with it quiet (ish) the volume on 2, but it loves to be driven hard! They now make a 20 watt version, head and combo may be worth looking into? But yeah I guess tube amps are built for playing loud, thank you for watching!🤘😎
Get a Bugera PS-1 power attenuator, and you can get those tones at bedroom volume. You plug the speaker output into the PS-1, then plug the speaker into the PS-1, so you can still drive the amp to get the sounds you want, but use the Power Soak to reduce the power going to the speaker. They're pretty inexpensive, too, usually under $120.
Thanks ever so much David, really cool comment! 😎 Really rate this amp, and they can be picked up at decent prices second hand, so if you are ever in the market for a new amp, this is the one to get, nails that kind of blues rock tone. Pairs perfectly with my les Paul's too, thanks for watching 🤘 🎸 🎶
Nice demo. Peavey came out of a cave in the 1980s and started offering some cool gear. It started with the butcher, the triumph 60, vtm series, bravo, and 5150 which was a great metal amp for anyone EXCEPT Eddie (he needed a Marshall). But then the classic came out. I got one immediately. In the beginning they had no effects loop. But it sounded excellent micd. I don't use distortion pedals but a DOD bifet preamp through the loop will give you a great clean boost on the crunch channel. Those pedals are under rated and I bought mine NOS. Really thru the loop one of the coolest clean boost pedals.
Thanks so much Bruce, yeah I've always admired this range, I wonder how many people don't give it any attention and dismiss Peavey off as only a metal high gain amp builder! I used to own a 6505+ great high gain amp, but yeah I agree on the Marshall comment, those early EVH albums with the cranked plexis are just magical! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😁🎸🤘
Ive built professionally/modded for 30+ years the BEST Classic 30 i ever did was a 25 watt celestion in REVERSE polarity and ALL JJ tubes....2B honest I blv Hartly's inspiration for this circuit came from a Dumble he owned! :)
Andy what is the riff you are playing in this video @2:10 demoing the clean reverb ? Great video by the way. I own one of these and Delta blues 15” and love them both
Thank you ever so much, it's Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac's, 'Albatross' such a beautiful track and really demonstrates how good the clean channel is. Yeah these are fantastic amps, still working strong all these years on! 🎸🤘
On my second one now. JTM45 is my main amp but I use the Classic 30 a lot more than I care to admit. Small jams or small gigs it’s smaller room friendly than the JTM. I like playing through an outboard cab when possible a G12-65.
Love ain’t no stranger! You never hear that in reviews. Sykes is my hero fosho. Badass review and playing dude. Thanks for the inspiring review. People look down their noses at Peavey gear but the Classic 30 is easily one of the greatest amps of all time. A true workhorse. James Brown really knocked it out of the park when he designed and built this one.
Thanks so much man, really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! Yeah it's a classic riff ain't it, absolutely adore Skyes work with Whitesnake, he has a great style, and I'm a big fan of his wide vibrato! Totally get what you mean, people are too quick to judge with their eyes and not the ears! I still love this amp as much as the day I got it, incredible amp, more people need to know about them! 🤘 🎸
Awesome video! Great playing... I've got a Peavey Delta Blues, which despite its 15'' speaker and the built-in tremolo, has the same features of the C30. Love the tone of those amps, Peavey did a great job. They sounds good both with humbuckers as well as single coils. I play my DB through a Fender Strat and the tone is so nice. Thanks for the settings hint, I'll use that. Rock On!
Thanks ever so much for watching, yeah I've been curious about the Delta Blues with the 15 inch speaker, I'll have to get round to A/B ing one against my trusty Classic 30. Totally agree with you there, sounds ace with single coils and humbuckers, such a fantastic all rounder amp, and built to last too! Glad I can help with the settings, I literally never change them from there, that's the sweet spot for me! 🤘 🎸
had the classic 20,30 and 50....enjoyed all of em sold em. Put a Greenback in the 30, sounded a bit better. Watch this, and wish i'd have kept the 30 or 50. Haha..things we sell and regret. I have quite a list. Got some great gear now (DSL50/Tubemeister 40 and AC30HW2X) but still miss my dearly departed gear...like my SG as well. Damn...why do we do this?
Heya Dale, thanks for watching, ahh it's so true, I think we all have those stories of gear we had to sell on. Nothing quite comes close to replicating what you remember does it. I've told myself I'll never ever get rid of this amp, although I have many others now it's always nice to plug back into this well worn classic 30. Love SG's by the way, brilliant guitars! 😎🤘
Superb video and playing Andy! I have a vintage Classic 30 with the extension cabinet and it's the best combo I've ever used. Put a Celestion 30 in it and it rocks even better. Also have a Peavey Classic 20 which is a very nice amp too. Great to practise on at home.
Thank you ever so much, they are phenomenal amps aren't they, yeah I have the extension cab too, love it to bits, always a treat to crank this amp up! 😎🤘
Back about 10 years ago I bought a Peavey 115E equipped with the original Eminence 15" as an extension cab for my 1994 C30. Worked like a charm for adding lots of bottom end until I swapped the original speaker in the C30 out for that Celestion Relic 30. Now the 115E is dedicated to a full stack Peavey topped by a Classic 50 head and a Peavey Classic 410E cab, equipped with blue frame alnico speakers.
These are still going to for a lot of money here in Texas $500, I stumbled upon these years ago and realized they sound pretty good and I'm a skate and pop punk guitarist, unfortunately I've never found one cheap. I've found a jcm 900 and jcm 2000 cheaper
You have to demo the Peavey Delta Blues II, its even better than the classic 30. Its the same as amo but with a Celestion Fullback and tremolo. I got mine. Its going nowhere. When flying i plan to buy my Delta Blues an airplane seat right next to me. I just love it.
It's such an incredible amp, and more people need to know about it! Yeah the clean channel is beautiful, and it stays clean all the way up too without breaking up! I pretty much live on the drive channel these days, but yeah it's a great clean channel if that's what you're after, thanks so much for watching! 😎🤘
I have had a 30 for about a year. The clean side is lush. This is not a two channel amp. I have not touched to overdrive until recently and will use this demo to set it up. I have yet to put a pedal in front of it. Sweet !
Thanks Richard, yeah it's s lovely clean channel, I image great for pedals, but like I said in the video I'm always living on the drive channel, it's such a satisfying sound, cleans up great, but has that real raw bite to it, absolutely love it with a Les Paul! 😎🤘
Heya Marek, thanks ever so much, yeah it's a phenomenal amp and sounds lovely with the Les Paul, it's 'Albatross' by Fleetwood Mac, beautiful song, thank you for watching!🤘🎶
They are such great amps, great for gigging, a real work horse, and they sound incredible, so glad I made this video about them so more people can hopefully enjoy them! 🤘🎸
Comparing some tube heads. The classic 20 does seem to be a great choice for the price to sound barrier. Would you recommend the peavey over the orange dual terrors?
Thank you ever so much Rory, and great question, yeah when it's plugged into the extension cab, it still keeps the output from the combo speaker, which effectively makes it a 2x12 which is awesome. If you have a long enough speaker cable you could have them different sides of a room if you wanted to help give a stereo feel! But yeah I usually just stack them on top of each other, looks and sounds great, thank you for watching 😁🎸🎶
I had a Delta Blues but to my ears the amp sounded like it had a head cold. Weird description but that is what it made me think of. Clas d ic 50 with tens maybe better ?
I can't help but come back to this video every now and then to listen to that MEGA tone! Question Andy: Are you using any attenuator in this video, is your power amp cranked up? Also, what mike are you using if you don't mind? Thanks!
Great playing, wonderful tones! I had a black tweed version from 2002 or so, and should have kept it. I am looking at another one now, ha...I have to know if you are using the original speaker, or swapped it out. You don't mention it anywhere.. Thanks again for the great tones!
Thank you ever so much for watching, really love this amp, yeah I know a lot of people like to upgrade it, but honestly this is the stock speaker, to my ears it sounds lovely, I've never ever felt the need to change it, love it just how it is, but I know a lot of people change it out, thanks again for watching! 🎸🤘
Thank you ever so much, I'm constantly blown away by how great this amp sounds! Love playing Peter green on it, sounds a treat for that, thank you ever so much for watching 😁🤘🎸
Hello Andy, thanks for the no frills demo. What's the speaker model? There have been a number different speakers over the years and I guess they have an effect on the sound character.
Ahh super, glad to hear it, they are awesome amps, let you know how you get on with it, incredible amps for the money, you'll never want to turn it off If you are anything like me ahaa thanks for watching 🤘🎸
It's late Friday night and I'm unpackaging it I bought it from Sweetwater with the credit card and the 24 months payments I'm unboxing it right now I don't have a pedal and I was kind of wondering what you suggested I didn't hear it on the video
Ahh that's awesome, thank you ever so much, they really are phenomenal, and that sounds like a great combination, bet they sound incredible together! 🤘😎
Andy, Great demo, just wondered if your classic 30 amp still has the original valves and speaker? I own the same amp and will never be parted from it.Mine does have replacement valves and speaker a nd a 3 spring reverb tank which I bought off Ebay for very little. It sounds amazing. These are great amps.
Heya Ian, thank you ever so much, yeah it's a brilliant amp and it's totally stock, original speaker and not changed the tubes since buying it, it's a real workhorse, solid tones and incredibly reliable too. Totally agree with you, I have many amps, but this one will always have a special place in the collection, spent many many hours playing on it over the last almost decade of owning it! 😎🎸
Hi Glenn, thank you ever so much for watching, really appreciate it. Yeah I hear a lot of people like to change/upgrade the speaker, mine is still the Blue Marvel stock speaker, I think it sounds great so have never felt the need to change. If it ain't broke don't fix it scenario, but yeah a lot of people will put in a V30, hope that helps, thank you again for enjoying the video and commenting 😎🤘
Lol!
Ahh that's great news, yeah the black Tolex ones look just as cool, fingers crossed you get it and love it just as much as mine! 🤘🎸
Great video Andy. Talk about the most underrated amplifier! I'm lucky to have the Jack Daniels limited edition version Peavey JD30-T. Glorious tones.
Thank you. Love when I can come away from reading a comment having learned something so practical.
Is there a pedal to engage boost as the one I have is channel change and reverb?
this amp made me cry. played through a vox 412, plugged a double p90 squier vintage modified tele custom in and the clean channel just made me cry. couldn't believe it was my playing that sounded this nice. i have played all sorts of expensive amps, all i want is this thing.
The best Classic 30 review on internet! Thank You!
I watch this video almost once a month now. Can’t get enough of your tone on this amp. Really good brother.✌️
I have this model too. About the only effect I use on it. Is a clean boost, once in awhile.
I love this video, you really give this amplifier justice. This amp really flu under the radar. With a lot of players. Great video Andy, and even better guitar playing.👍✌️
Ahh that's amazing, really appreciate you watching and rewatching ahaa yeah it's an absolutely fabulous amp, absolutely love it! 😎🎸
@@Foofang65 thanks again Jamie, really appreciate it, yeah you are spot on, such an underrated amp, highly rate these and recommended them to hundreds of people over the years, mine is still going strong too, thanks again for taking the time to comment! 😎🤘
Love the Lizzy. I can really hear the complex harmonics provided by the high quality gear
Love my classic 30,gig with it every night, till Corona hit, now unemployed musician.
Thanks so much for watching Harvey, yeah they are fantastic workhorse amps. I love them, built to last too! Yeah the whole no gig thing is really frustrating, I miss it too! Hopefully we can be back to playing live again soon 🤘
That was excellent. Love accent too, mate, Great Paul playing. oooh. We have a teal stripe Peavey over here. your reverb sound is great! love this!!
Excellent. An amp demonstration that the demonstrator actually knows songs. Instead of some guy endlessly noodling. Thanks. Oh ya, what a great sounding amp. Excellent demonstration.
Great video! Great playing! I've had a Classic 30 bought new in 94. Loved it from day one but I did love it more when
I put a vintage Greenback in.
Greenback is 25 watt, peavey 30. Is not risky to use it together?
Thanks for uploading! Toured a Classic 50 for four years - best (affordable) amp ever! I love this thing.
Nice video. Love the tones coming out of your hands. I had a classic 20 combo (MIA). Used it with a SD1. Great tones from these Peaveys.
This is helped quite a bit by 1) putting an EQ pedal in the loop with "bath tub shaped curve" on the low end side only, and 2) extension cabinet hooked up in parallell ( 212 or 115 Celestion Fullback, ending up in 2*212 or 212+115)
After having bought my 1st , black one , early last autumn (via Reverb from Sicily, since non for sale in Sweden by the time ) I realized after a month or so that both my Marshall DSL40C and my JMP 2204 -80 412-rig had been totally unused , and a month after that were still so, so I sold both of them. Non of them were able to give the same thrill and joy as the Peavey does....
What totally sold me for those marvellous amps were:

Cheers, Magnus, Gothenburg
Can’t agree with you more. They are total work horses, and much more affordable than the competition in the used market. Truly a little hidden gem.
Great Sound Andy! This amplifier is the perfect deal! Oh man , I love you're playin' with this beautyfully Black Beauty! Marvellous and Brilliant!
I’ve used everything from PA amps with modeling pedals to a double stack but these amps are the best for me.
love my peavey classic 30 (black tweed) bought new in 2001 . killer playing mate, def leppard a favourite of mine as is bad company
I just bought this amp today used $344.00 I can't wait to get it great demo my friend love the Thin Lizzy
Rock On!
Thank you ever so much Dale, glad you enjoyed it, yeah they are such fantastic amps, deffo a great addition to anyone's amp collection, enjoy! 🤘🎸
My first tube amp was a classic 30 and I regret trading it away for a blues junior. I would love to find another one used.
Cheers.
Great video man! I have also a peavey classic 30 and I really love him...congrats for your channel from Italy!!
Thanks so much Alex, they are great amps, one of my best purchases ever, always get good tones from it! Thanks for watching my video 😁🤘🎸
Love mine. You can find your tone, it’s in there.
I love the classic series amp
I love the classic 30 but the classic 20 combo IT is m'y amp
To Play the clean but the Drive i love all those sound great video !
Thank you ever so much, really appreciate that, yeah they are fantastic amps, can't recommend them highly enough, thanks for watching! 🎸🤘

@@AndyDoveGuitar Thanks for checking it out man! Hope you could understand me haha. I'm fixing to post another one here in a day or 2!
Nigel Tufnel: “This one goes to 11.” Peavey: “Bah… hold my beer!” 😂

Awesome video Andy. Love your demonstration on how to craft different tones. I am a Peavey Classic 30 owner and will use your suggestions to improve my guitar tone.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Now we have that classic 20 and it's even better and loaded with options while still holding true to a great tube amplifier.
Yeah the 20 looks brilliant, especially with all the extra options like you say, great bit of kit, not tried one myself yet, but I bet it's great, thanks for watching, still love this classic 30, it's a fantastic workhorse amp! 😎🤘
@@AndyDoveGuitar Peavey made some great amplifiers for sure.
I have that exact same classic 30 and pairing it with a blues driver gets some beautiful tones

Thanks for the video Andy! What an amazing amp is that....and of course your playing!
Andy that was an super awesome video! Dude u r an inspiration. That was truly excellent work! Thumbs up from mtw and 99 in LA.
Thank you ever so much, that really means a lot, glad you enjoyed the video, thank you for watching, they are such awesome amps! 🤘😎
I loved my Classic 30 and those crunchy tones. I just wish it had a lower output option so I could play it in my apartment.
Try the JHS little black box for $45 in the effects loop.
Love the Night Prowler riff at 2:52 🤘🏼
Me too, it's a classic ain't it, love the early AC/DC, phenomenal band, always fun playing any of their riffs, thank you for watching! 😎🤘
Sweet, always loved that amp and your Les Paul .Great tones, this video would be my goal in style of playing and tones, love it.
Great Thin Lizzy riffs! Love the lp custom and the classic 30 combo. Perfect tone 🤘
Thank you ever so much, yeah it's such a fantastic combination, love playing the Thin Lizzy riffs! 🎸🤘
Very nice amp, i have one of these, but very underrated, can't understand, with a few tweeks Realy ROCKS, i love it...
Cause im the night prowler! Love that tune.
It's such a good song ain't it, love both the tones of Angus and Malcolm's guitar on that track, phenomenal album that one! 🤘🎸
Classic tune right there!
Damn fine song🤘
I have one of these that I bought new about 2004 (American made model) and I love it.
Ive built professionally/modded for 30+ years the BEST Classic 30 i ever did was a 25 watt celestion in REVERSE polarity and ALL JJ tubes....2B honest I blv Hartly's inspiration for this circuit came from a Dumble he owned! :)
I love the tone and your choice of songs!
Thank you ever so much, yeah it's such an inspiring combination, always love playing this amp with a Les Paul 🤘
I loved the Night Prowler section!
I probably own about 20 amps, many hand wired. The Classic 30 is the it for me. Great video! Thanks!
Same here. I have a classic 30 from the 90s. Still going strong.
It's like the Swiss Army knife of the amps! Lol
I had a classic 20 that sounds very similar and I loved it!!
Yeah the whole range is fantastic, totally puts a smile on your face plugging into it, so many great tones! 🎸🤘🎶
@@AndyDoveGuitar that it does!!
You have to demo the Peavey Delta Blues II, its even better than the classic 30. Its the same as amo but with a Celestion Fullback and tremolo. I got mine. Its going nowhere. When flying i plan to buy my Delta Blues an airplane seat right next to me. I just love it.
oh a useable clean on an LP, man, this amp is the thing!
What is the name of the song that you are plaing at 2:07? I cant find in my memory....
Great tones!
Heya Marek, thanks ever so much, yeah it's a phenomenal amp and sounds lovely with the Les Paul, it's 'Albatross' by Fleetwood Mac, beautiful song, thank you for watching!🤘🎶
Thank you!!!
Have you done a video on how you get the awesome EVH tone in your Instagram clips?
Love this amplifier. And especially your tone.
The crunch channel sounds like a killer Warm Marshall and clean channel like a baby Twin.
Thanks so much Peter, yeah couldn't agree more, it's such a fantastic amp for the money, can't get enough of that drive channel! 😎🤘
I gigged a 410 classic 50 for years in the early 2000's then went in search of better tones. I don't think I have ever found it.
They are such great amps, great for gigging, a real work horse, and they sound incredible, so glad I made this video about them so more people can hopefully enjoy them! 🤘🎸
My rig for a while in the late 90s was that combo, plus sitting on top of a Classic slanted tweed 4x12!
Oooh that sounds marvelous, bet it sounded great into the 4x12! 🤘😎
Comparing some tube heads. The classic 20 does seem to be a great choice for the price to sound barrier. Would you recommend the peavey over the orange dual terrors?
Can you get van halen type tone with this amp ?
Did Thin Lizzy play on Peavey amps? Wish you did a video on how to play “The Cowboy Song”.
Nice Play.. reminds me of my teenage
Thank you, they are such great amps, thank you for watching! 🤘😎
Hi Andy great video, beautiful sound. When you plug in the extension speaker is the sound cut from the combo speaker?
Thank you ever so much Rory, and great question, yeah when it's plugged into the extension cab, it still keeps the output from the combo speaker, which effectively makes it a 2x12 which is awesome. If you have a long enough speaker cable you could have them different sides of a room if you wanted to help give a stereo feel! But yeah I usually just stack them on top of each other, looks and sounds great, thank you for watching 😁🎸🎶
Would love to know what that surf riff @2:15 was. Love your playing mate. Top marks.
I had a Delta Blues but to my ears the amp sounded like it had a head cold. Weird description but that is what it made me think of. Clas d ic 50 with tens maybe better ?
2:08 ... beautiful tones. Is that an original piece or is it something famous I should know?
Andy remember me your my guitar teacher in hillmortorn primary tyler
Thanks Tyler, yes I remember you, hope you are practicing lots and staying safe 😊🎸🎶
Lovely playing.
I can't help but come back to this video every now and then to listen to that MEGA tone! Question Andy: Are you using any attenuator in this video, is your power amp cranked up? Also, what mike are you using if you don't mind? Thanks!
Well, i saw your video again and you can scratch that first part of the question..!! :)
7:55 "very satisfying"... indeed it is. That Peter Green though...sweet Mother of Jesus!!
Thanks to you i chose this amp.
I bought one after seen this video 👌😁 can't wait to use it with my peavey wolfgang u.s a. 👌
Ahh that's awesome, thank you ever so much, they really are phenomenal, and that sounds like a great combination, bet they sound incredible together! 🤘😎
@@AndyDoveGuitar they sound awesome together 🤘 this amp is very loud 😄
Ahaa glad to hear it, oah yeah it can get very loud when you need it, easily loud enough to keep up with a drummer, such great amps for the money! 😎🤘
@@AndyDoveGuitar yes 😄 and thanks for your video, it was very helpfull 🤘🤘👌
I bought a set of replacement tubes based on suggestions but they are still boxed up. I wonder why ?
Yep have my original c30 and extension cab. I also run it through a 5150 straight cab when I feel like A rock star. 😂
Great tones...! and nice playing...! What speaker do you have in the amp...? a stock Blue Marvel, or something else...?
Hi Glenn, thank you ever so much for watching, really appreciate it. Yeah I hear a lot of people like to change/upgrade the speaker, mine is still the Blue Marvel stock speaker, I think it sounds great so have never felt the need to change. If it ain't broke don't fix it scenario, but yeah a lot of people will put in a V30, hope that helps, thank you again for enjoying the video and commenting 😎🤘
