Still have my classic 50 4x10, gigged it all through the 90s it never let me down. It sat in the basement for over 20 years still sounds as great as ever. Pure quality and amazing tone, not to mention more power than I ever needed.
These amps are criminally underrated. When I gigged with my Classic 50, I’d remove the badging and when someone would inevitably compliment the sound of the amp, I always relished the confused and surprised look on their face when I said it was a Peavey.
Ive had this amp since 91 and It landed on the other Side Of the planet with me with My grey front green Back 30 watts marshall 4/12 cab …. Funny i checked That logo first thing and did the same to peeps as i toured the states and Canada with this head - i still play It now and It rips
I bought these heads when they first were made and the best sounding amps ive ever owned and yes the only mod when brand new was removed the Peavey logo people though they were old tweed fenders . I have 3 now ! Best thru Marshall 4x12 cabs
I can't think of a better amp for the money.... Such a versatile workhorse of an amp. And, the American one's are bulletproof. If it's good enough for Dann Huff, then it's good enough for anyone. The dirty channel has a spectacular classic rock side to it that's rarely demo'd well unfortunately. Outstanding video!
Im a studio guy and I found a classic 100 while and the matching 4x10 at guitar center for $600 iirc. My buddy plugged a Silver Sky SE into it and I just couldn’t leave the amp there for someone else I had to have it for the studio. He wasn’t going to buy it but he’s my first call guitarist for just about everything so we’re using it constantly. Such an underrated amp.
Thanks for sharing this video. I have two Classic 50's, both from early 90's--the combo amp and the separate head. Good, reliable amp that some folks love to bash, but they have served me well over the years, recording and live. You do a fine job of showing what the amp can do. I'm going to try some of your settings! I run the head through a 2x12 cab with Celestion G12H speakers. Same for combo. Thanks again!
Great demo and very informative. I have the Peavey Classic Head 100 watts which i love with a matching 4x10 cab. Have you tried putting a empty jack (like a 1/4" to 3.5mm adaptor) into the bright input while plugging a guitar into the normal input? Give it a boost.
I briefly tried it about 2 months ago. I don’t remember exactly what the results were but it did nothing to improve sound. In fact it considerably detracted from tone.
Awesome video. I totally agree... Ok be of the best amps ever made and shockingly underrated. I've yet to find a better sounding amp regardless of price.... though I love lots of other amps for different reasons none sound better just different. And these are extremely well made too...
I nearly bought one of these heads for $700 (Australian) but a 2 channel jcm800 popped up for $1300 so I went with the 800. Like a lot of 800s it sounded great but often had issues (all 3 800s I've owned had some sort of issue). Kinda wish I went with the Classic 50.
Great demo of a great amp! I have one in the 4x10. Love it! When you mentioned cap job, do you mean replace the filter caps or other cap values? There are some common mods that suggest cap changes for tonal differences.
Many thanks for the response! I actually printed the information, so have it. I've even purchased the caps but have not carved the time for the service. Hopefully, soon! Great demo and playing. Also appreciate the feedback.
Nope, not the greatest Peavey of all time. You admit this, as most people never heard of the brand until Eddie and the 5150/5150II. My 59 Bassman crushes my old 410 Classic 50, yet nothing crushes my 5150II, including my 5150III 50watt, that's for sale (version one, volume jump POS, so no one will buy the unusable, waste of money amp). Second, you're a damn fine player, who could make most amps sound great (sans the IR's, they all suck vs. a cab/mike). Your playing was a perfect match for that amp, and showed the bests bits of the Classic 50. Well done, and cheers.
I had a Peavey Classic 50 combo in the 90s that I used in my blues band. I bought a Fender Blues DeVille and it was much better than the Peavey was. However, i wish that I hadn't sold the Peavey, because it had a unique tone.
I've owned two of the Classic VT Peaveys in my time and I can say that both sounded equally subpar. Some people love them.. a speaker upgrade may do the trick, but in the end it's still just a 2x12 with tube power amp and solid state pre amp.

Got the 2x12 today for $300. These things are so undervalued it’s crazy.

Bought this head used for 250 Canadian and have gigged with it for ten years , love it.

The intro song sounds really good. Great playing! This amp seems to be a hidden gem!

I have the black tolex version and it's the best amp I've ever played. Glad your spreading the love ✌
Very powerful punchy Amp with Green Muff Echo some Flange & Wah ..4X10 ! Marshall player collector since 1968
got the rare black classic 50 head today with a fender front load dt 1x12 for easy speaker swaps! Hello new rabbit hole I'll be living in!
Lynyrd Skynyrd, with Mace, or Deuce amps, 38 Special, and many others, very nice amps, bullet proof.
Great demo and very informative.

Thank you! Great idea i Never tried that before
I might give it a try … I was already wondering if you could do something like that w the amp. Sort of The JTM 45 jumper approach.
Can we get a demo of this tone?? I have a classic 50 4x10 combo and was curious about this but wasn't sure if it could be done on this amp!

JCM 800 is a great amp though - i also have one and love it! Keep it - i think they will be quite sought after one day!

Yeah i did some of the changes that a guy from blueguitar recommended. I think his Website is off but you can google up the schematics!

Sounds really good
Great stuff ✌️

The best of the best... But also both Delta Blues amps :)
Last lead sound was great is it pedal or amp's overdrive ?
Except for the one file with the tumnus, all came from the amp alone:)!
Fuck, that amp sounds good!
Thé best ampli around thé World ❤
Answer is yes, but… a buddy of mine owned the rare 100w, 8 EL84 power tube, Peavey Classic 100 Head.
Amazing and also 100w.
great amp as long as you turn off the reverb. But the 20w is still in production.
Good morning.
I miss mine. You ever want to sell this. Reach out to me.
I have a 77 Peavey classic 2 12 and it sounds like ass. I dunno wtf is going on with it. Maybe the speakers?
Tubes?

The Classic 30 is a great sounding amp, as im sure this too but the build design would make me never buy one. Great playing btw
imo 5150 any of them or jsx or 6505 cant beat peavey
Answer: NO!
Cleans are nice. As the gain increases it's all coated in fizz.
Just average sounding.
Sorry!
