A Cold, Misty & Mysterious Early Morning Walk Through a Cotswold Village & Countryside

  • So, today we are out and about walking in the village of Guiting Power which is located within the heart of the Cotswolds in the county of Gloucestershire in the UK. The village sits halfway between Stow-on-the-Wold & Cheltenham.
According to the 2011 census the village then had a population of 296. For a village that is relatively small it has many local amenities which include a village hall, a children's nursery (built in 1872 and first used as a school before closing), a shop, a Post Office, a bakery and also two public houses (the Farmer's Arms and the Hollow Bottom).
The local church is St Michael and all Angels which is situated on the south end of the village and is of a Norman origin dating back as far as the 12th century.
Guiting Power hosts its own music festival each year in the month of July comprising of classical, jazz and folk music.
I would definitely like to make a return visit to this village again some time this year to explore further.
There are no hidden OAAW logos within this video.
    Thanks for walking with me.

Wow!😮 Feels like the most perfect place in the world. I really thought the mist made this walk even more amazing. This walk is one of my favorites. I'm sure I will be watching this many times. The field of flowers was pretty too. Are those planted or grow naturally?

Good evening T.R.P from the UK, hope all is well. Thank you so much for walking with me again :) You have got me intrigued now...”one of my favourites”, which others are your favs? I think the mist makes this walk stand out from previous walks. Did you notice I had just a little bit of latch trouble at one point and guess what? I thought of you at the time :) The fields would have been planted as the crops are grown to produce oil, usually for the cooking I believe. Regards. ~OAAW~

@Out and about Walking Hi! I have many favorites, there is always something new to see, but the ones that I can think of off the top of my head are the ones where you walk through the village, but then trail off into the countryside or surrounding park areas that surround the villages. There was one video from a while back where you started walking away from the village, and into a pasture of sheep, and you could still hear the church bells ring from quite a distance. That was really lovely. I like the village walks in the rain, very soothing. I like the walks that show historical sites. I like the holiday lights during Christmas. I like how the churches sometimes have such beautiful, manicured grounds and shrubs. I like to see how places that were built centuries ago are still looking very similar to how they once were. The serenity of your walks is so unique and I prefer it to the modern, busy, chaotic, and cookie-cutter type surroundings of most cities.....And regarding the gate latch, I didn't notice any type of fidgeting at all. If you did have trouble with any, I would just smile because I know you are human just like me. 😀. See you on the other side, TRP.

Personally I don't like the dark gray color of some Cotswold houses which I find depressing.

Foggydew days are as welcome as rainys. Have you ever experienced "cemetery" fog, a thin murky layer that floats between 2 to 5' above the ground? It's spooky enough but spine-tingling in a graveyard. As kids we'd run through it making it swirl and swim, you know, like 👻s. I thought I'd seen a creepy white masked face in a window of The Old Post Office, but investigation aka zoomies, twas a large plant leaf just at the right angle. In me weedwacking days family had to put up with me leaving "crop" patches everywhere ie clover, wild onion flowers, April buttercups, wild strawberries etc. But me "farming" didn't compare to where you and I ended up, as far as the eye could see (😂and not) the yellow sea of rapeseed (or canola?). It's fitting the buildings of Guiting are rather nonchalant, almost like cluster of barns (why am I fixated on barns🙄). Tell me, what kind of trees are those several story highs with cluster flowers and large flat leaves, I've never seen them before; they interest me. Darn ya hide! Every walk so far I've found some thingamajig peculiar that, you know the saying, "ya can't eat just one", so I munch and munch and, still awaiting to find the toy surprise at the bottom of the CrackerJack box. Secrets out, you're the fella who keeps refilling the boxes, Sir🕶️.

Good day, Jaclyn. Another very busy today over this side of the pond. How is your day going? Yep, secondary to rainy days, are foggy days. When I was a kid, it always seemed to be foggy a lot more than nowadays. Sadly, I have never experienced that kind of ground fog in a graveyard, imagine that on Halloween! When I woke to be greeted by the sight of the dense fog, I literally could not believe my luck! The field of crop is rapeseed oil, it is quite widely seen here by about May time. I haven’t got a clue what kind of tree that is, whereabouts was it? I am so grateful for your continued support, Jaclyn and you will be onto the leaderboard before we know it! Wishing you all the best. OAAW

I never know the exact time I go walking because I don’t wear a wrist watch or take a phone with me. I guess this really does make the walks ‘timeless’ :). This appears like an 'idyllic' country village, but is it preserved as such by the government for the 'tourist' or 'under preservation'? Noticed only 2-or-3 telegraph poles, several cars (of course), 2-or-3 TV aerials and only one pub/restaurant---are the electric cables 'sunk' under the earth to preserve the early 20th century scene? No 'Neighborhood Watch' notices---nor any 'Police Station' near by in case of emergency!...But one did see a good 'sprinkling' of Victorian churches! Nice place for the over-60's or those into 'transcendental meditation'!!!

I'm guessing you've never even set foot in the UK countryside? This is what rural Britain looks like! It's normal.
The text tells you that for a village of around only 300 residents, there are a lot of amenities, including 2 pubs, a children's nursery, a village hall, a Post Office, a shop, a bakery and the church.
The village also holds an annual music festival, and there seems to be some kind of village conservation society.
The church has a Victorian transept, but the rest of it is much older, with its origins Norman and additions over centuries, mostly late medieval.
Villages of 300 people don't have a police station each! But a police station will cover a number of villages.
Many of the buildings, including houses, will be legally protected under the 'listing' system, which limits what can be done to them, but it would be unusual for a family home to be in the highest category of listing (Grade I) and so will be the lower grades of II* or II, which have lighter legal restrictions. Listing is a national thing, so doesn't only apply to this village or area.
I'm bemused by 'early 20th century scene'? The village and most of its buildings are far older than that!
The whole area is agricultural, so some residents will be employed in farming. From the village it's commutable for work to larger towns and cities such as Cirencester, Stroud, Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon, Gloucester, Worcester and Oxford. No doubt some people work from home. Some residents will obviously attend local primary and secondary schools or colleges.

@@clairenoon4070 Guess you have 'put me in my place' with regards the entire 'set up' of that lovely part of the country! Yes, I have lived, studied and worked in the United Kingdom---mainly the big 'Smoke', but have been to the West Country ( Dorset and Somerset) and must admit there are hidden rural places of beauty. Just made notes---it takes someone like yourself to 'fill in' the blank spaces! Glad to see the countryside is looked after and appreciated! There's a lot of tradition over there!!!

Your welcome. In some of my videos I place / hide the logo (it could be anywhere...on a wall or on a car) then the idea is the viewer would try and spot the hidden logo whilst watching the video so it is like a game, just a little bit of extra fun. Hope that makes sense?
