I agree with you on the sleeping pad issue. Good report.

The highlander 35l is a bit nicer than the BCB offering.

I fixed the valve, but now all the feathers are stuck down the bottom of the pad....lol I have the Thermarest Xtherm now, expensive but a real game changer for a cold sleeper like me.

👍👍👍 .. good post with interesting content.
    To touch on some ..
Yes, reducing the flame to just what is required will still do the job (albeit a bit slower) and save a heap of fuel. Using gas, I use my windscreen to 'shield' and not 'enclose' the setup.
'Down against Skin'. I have 'mulled' this quite a bit and it makes absolute sense. Having the most effective insulation up against the heat source (the body) and thereby contain / maintain the required Micro-Climate against the skin where it will do the most good, is the way to go. As long as that micro-climate has been established (by whatever means) and is maintained, all will be well. Whatever is happening beyond that .. be it centimetres or even millimetres away, is then of little consequence.
Meals .. breakfast. I am a Philistine and when out there (and even 6 days a week at home), will scoff down a huge assortment and variety of food .. as long as it is Oats .. in varying variations thereof 😏. I boil the water, add, and then 'cold soak' my oats concoction the night before (boiling water to ensure that no nu-nu's survive therein to 'go out into the world and multiply). The next morning, a quick warmup if desired .. adding anything else and Bob's your Uncle.
Thanks for sharing .. take care ..

Oats is my go to meal too, but not big on eating breakfast as a rule. The cold soak dehydration meal was a suggestion from a commenter, I thought I would indulge him, much to my distain and hate of that type of cooking. I am quite a lazy camp cook, opting for a tin of curry and a pack of Uncle Bens, boiled up in a pot big enough to accommodate that type of cooking these days, much to the annoyance of some viewers. I choose to take to weight and size penalty, to further my love of lazy cooking. ...lol
Individuality and freedom of thought must be stamped out as soon as possible on youtube, in favour of following the crowd like a sheep. This youtube lark is a though gig if you have your own mind...lol
Bare skin sleeping is not my usual thing to do, in case of a need to evacuate camp quickly. Sleeping with some layers on will preclude me running from a hostile farmer bare arsed with my tackle swinging loose, a fact not many viewers seem to comprehend...lol
How ever on a public camp site I would bare skin sleep, providing the comfort rating is much lower than the temperatures at the time, this will ensure a warm sleep.

Interesting video and was most surprised by your comments regarding this DD tent as my impression from watching DD kit reviews are favourable.
What brand are your dry meals ?

DIY tinned food which was put in a dehydrator, (a suggestion from a commentor.) My go to meals are (Freeze dried meals) albeit they are expensive, the texture and flavour are not diminished, but retains the same ease as just adding boiled water. Freeze dried meals also allow for a smaller pot and stove.
On some camps I just bring a tin of curry and an Uncle Bens, and pop it in the Jetboil Minimo on a long simmer, and just suck up the weight penalty, because I am a lazy camp cook.
I have filmed several different types of camp cooking, which will bring hate comments if it's not the same choice as the commenter...lol
Here is a link to one of my videos that might clarify things a little better.

I owned one about six years ago and it leaked and tore on a trip to the Highlands, I complained and sent it back, they gave me a full refund.
I'm amazed they are still selling it, it has to be the worst shelter I've ever had.

Truly a terrible tent, bad design and poor built quality. I have the Lanshan now, suits my needs, on a tight budget...Thanx for watching.
