    This is a much-debated battle and your consistency showcased the tires in a very informative way. Watching the video I found myself feeling like the Falken runs were quicker as I thought the footage just "seemed" more crisp. But the timer doesn't lie (though sometimes I wish it did). My BRZ isn't nose heavy like my old GTI, but both are camber challenged so I'll probably stick with the RT660.

    Thanks for the fantastic review Mark!! I have both tires on my CS ND Miata too. Was about to do the same testing myself, but you just did it for all enthusiasts. Wonderful job. This will be the greatest hit autocross tire review video :). Hopefully Bridgestone can bring in RE71RS to US in the near future so we have more choices.

    This review backs up what I thought when I ran these back to back at Crows Landing last year in my STU 350z.
    It was the first time I ran the Falkens and I was extremely impressed. And this was with a 285/30/18 opposed to the 295/30/18 A052's. I liked the Falkens so much I left them on the Z for the next weekend Packwood Champ event.
    After the first few runs at the TNT, I pulled the Falkens and mounted the A052's and immediately ran .5 or more faster on the test course.
    So if the grip is high, the Falkens are very fast. Less grippy surface, the A052's are the tire of choice.

      Yep, my findings as well...low grip definitely favors the Yoks.

      So for street launching from 0 with 500 hp rwd. Would the A052 do a better job than the azenis 660s?

    I would choose the RT660. Do to the stiffer side wall.. better feeling and responce..

    As a driver I don’t want to be guessing on the limit I need to have the confidence with the feel imo.

    The A052 is a much wider even if they were the same advertised size. Now that you ran 225 vs 215 the A052 is even wider still. So I would say this is Falken for the win.

    • @fastpaxSCR
      @fastpaxSCR  Год назад

      Very true, although the Falkens run very wide as well compared to other tires. Also of note is the surface...as I mentioned in the summary when the grip goes up, the delta evens out, especially on a low powered car lightweight car.

    Great driving my friend.
    I'm in the market for a Miata.
    Since I plan on tracking and autocrossing the car would you recommend starting with t
    a 2019+ Club model for the Brembo brakes, Bilstein shocks, Recaro seats and limited slip differential?
    I recently test drove a 2016 club, and was surprised the car still had lots of body roll.
    What's the best way to improve the handling and dial out some of the body roll?

    Great video very afformative. I would really like to know what tire pressures you are running and if you change them in between runs at all? Thank you

    • @fastpaxSCR
      @fastpaxSCR  2 года назад +2

      I had been running lower pressures like I was with Bridgestones, however both the Yokohama and the Falken seem to respond better to slightly higher pressures. I was running 35-36F and 33-35 rear during this test, bleeding down between runs.

    What happened to the Bridgestones?

    Any heat cycling or pre scrubbed tires in this test? Either of them like more or less pressure than the other?

  • @Funforester
    @Funforester Год назад

    the tire tests never say cold tire pressures hot or ideal pressures, best tire temp car weight ect thing that make a difference on different cars.

    The bog on R2 and R3 on Falkens likely cost them the winning laptime. Did you tune shocks for each tire?

    • @fastpaxSCR
      @fastpaxSCR  2 года назад

      Agreed on the bog starts...the RT660s are tricky as they don't have great longitudinal grip, it's either a bog or too much wheelspin. Shock settings were the same for both tires, although I run simple off-the-shelf Konis, so they are always full stiff in front unless it's wet, and since the rears felt very composed on both tires I made no adjustments.

    How many runs can you get out of the Falkens before grip falls off? I’ve seen people report 80+ runs before they notice.

      I just got these tires, so what you are saying the tread doesn't wear out too fast?

    • @utoobia
      @utoobia Год назад

      @@saulespino2510 No, the tread life is pretty good. I’ve gone through 2 sets of them now. I was referring only to GRIP. Traction in autocross racing. They will lose their grip on dry surfaces well before the tread gets down to being illegal on the street.

    Where did you get the front grill with MAZDA on it?

    • @fastpaxSCR
      @fastpaxSCR  Год назад

      That is actually just a decal applied to the OE grill piece, it's part of a decal package we run for Mazda contingency offered at SCCA National Autocross events.

    What size wheels were you using?

    • @fastpaxSCR
      @fastpaxSCR  Год назад +1

      In the Street Category we are required to run wheels that are stock width...so I run a 17x7" wheel.

    • @fastpaxSCR

      While this video was shot in August, the answer is "yes" I can pretty much autocross all year lol. Northern CA clubs have a "slight" offseason from Dec-Feb, but SoCal and AZ (where I live now) run all year. Actually that's not totally true...in Phoenix our off-season is June-August ;)
